Other than getting to know her neighbors, she also went to study what she should take in the neighbors’ farms. After stealing patches of orchards and vineyards back after coming home from Varma, she knew that she could take patches from good farms to place in her space.
Her space wasn’t endless, but a few hundred meters each of good crops was very good already, especially with the growth acceleration effect of her space.
Speaking of which, the growth factor wasn’t endless either, it consumed energy, like what was absorbed from the gold and gems. While the space itself was stable and a part of her, the extra hastening effect, as well as the preservation effect, consumed energy every day.
If she took in more plants, this would consume even more. If she took in more animals, consumption was also faster.
Fortunately, with the current and massive energy reserves, it would take several decades for this to be consumed, so she didn’t worry too much, but at the same time, it was a reminder for her never to stop collecting.
The children’s stories reminded her of neighboring villages that weren’t too far away, so she decided to check them out as well. She used the van this time.
In the adjacent villages, she bought freshly slaughtered meat to supplement the mountain of cooked food she already had. She bought even the cheapest parts and innards for the predators in her space.
There were also plenty of dishes that could be cooked with innards; she wasn’t choosy–Grandma could cook anything well.
Speaking of livestock, she decided to buy more free-range chickens, geese, and ducks, as well as pigs, from the various villages. She couldn’t do it in large bulks because it would raise a lot of questions.
She redirected a portion of the pond she took in and assigned an acre of land for the various domesticated animals.
Whenever she encountered some animals on the road, she’d take them too.
She was apparently loved by animals, so unless she actively turned off her passive effect, she would often see some nearby. Most animals were wary of humans and did not approach on their own, but they would be in her sight, and she would take them to her space when she could.
She took a lot of small creatures. Whether they were birds, rabbits, squirrels, or other things. Her place needed some biodiversity, after all, and the predators (including the humans, hehe) could balance out the population.
While she did not awaken the typical wood ability others had, she still felt a connection to all living things, and her heart broke when she remembered all of these would be gone soon, helpless against nature.
After a long day of work, she finally landed back to her own farm and the chickens were happy to greet her. They toddled in her direction as if she hadn’t just fed them.
Cluck! Cluck!
One of the chicks tried to fly and fell down on its bum. Very cute.
She would place them in her space later, as agreed with Grandma. Since they couldn’t stay in the space yet, they didn’t want to add chores for Glen and Gale inside.
Naia then headed to the nursery, which had become part of her job in the household.
"This is amazing. It’s like you’ve doubled their growth." Grandma said, and Naia looked at the plants. She had naturally researched the growth cycles of each plant. However, she did not have much references to how old they were exactly.
"Ehh, stop exaggerating, grandma," she said, coquetishly grabbing the old woman’s arm.
The woman laughed and patted her head. "I’m really not. I don’t joke about farming."
"I may be old, but I’m not blind yet. These are really abnormally good! Not that it’s a bad thing, of course."
Naia smiled.
These ’control samples’ were plants she never took into her space. They did not grow nearly as quickly as the ones in the space, which were already mature, but they still grew better than others.
This confirmed that she indeed had a passive green thumb, even outside the space!
"So happy?" Grandma asked, lightly pinching her cheek.
"Uh-huh~"
...
From morning to the afternoon, the day was nice and productive. However, the night was anything but peaceful.
It happened past midnight when everyone was in deep sleep.
Vans carrying over a dozen well-built men dressed in black arrived at the village. When they disembarked, they headed straight to the house at the edge—Grandma’s House.
When they surrounded the house, Naia’s eyes opened wide, and she immediately sat up with furrowed eyebrows.
She had been woken up too early, so she was definitely not in a bad mood. She brushed her hair with her hand and stood up, heading to the other rooms.
Her lifetime of living in danger had long developed her sense of it. Now, with the help of the space, it had been enhanced even further. Basically, as long as unfamiliar people entered the scope she set, she would be alarmed.
She just didn’t expect them to be this many.
With Naia’s ability to see beyond one’s own eyes, she got a glimpse of the situation outside. She looked at the big men with vindictive faces, holding out their weapons, obviously there for nothing good.
Some even had guns with silencers. Their movements, and the way they approached the house, reminded her of some mercenaries in TV. Some of them might even have been fallen veterans.
These were murderers and kidnappers. Trained ones.
It was obvious where they were from or who sent them.
It seemed like she really angered a lot of people.
Sad for them, they really went after the wrong people this time.
It was just a pity—it was indicative that they could no longer stay.
After these bastards disappeared, who knows how many the enemies would send next time?
