Raising Ducks for Daily Rewards
Chapter 140: Selling Eggs and Ducks
"Brother Fengyu, you’re here again. Come, let me handle it quickly for you!" a young man called for Fengyu when he entered the Outer City Hall’s reception area.
Fengyu greeted the man, Receptionist Chao as he had introduced himself. He was actually an Inner Citizen taking a unique path of stewardship and management, apparently something the city needed to have proper management.
"Brother Chao," Fengyu greeted him equally kindly, "Thank you for receiving me again!"
"No need, no need! It’s just that brother comes in the same day every month, around the same time even. At this point I roughly know brother’s schedule here, so it’s not bothersome at all!" Ren Chao explained, wanting to make a good impression on this top earner!
"Haha, then I will make sure to come on time in the future," Fengyu laughed and agreed to take this small favour. Over the months he had been interacting with the people of the inner city, he had slowly gotten closer to more people and become somewhat more social with them, a stark contrast to his initial distancing attitude.
"Brother, is it the same as always?" Ren Chao came down to business and became serious.
Fengyu nodded and said that the cart containing everything had already been taken by the servant of the city.
In the past, Fengyu thought about getting an item to carry everything... but he saw that most cultivators didn’t care, so he himself didn’t want to waste any money on it. It was just using his spiritual power to pull a cart, what was the difficulty? In addition, there was a city security force, basically a police force, in the city. No one would dare steal anything when he walked on the main road.
"Since it’s the same as always, I will naturally calculate it the same as always -" Ren Chao said, then started calculating openly, a way merchants show you the income openly to make sure you don’t feel scammed -
For a moment he waited until a servant came in with a list, handing it to him. He looked over it and nodded, gesturing him to go away, while he started reading aloud the items and calculating it on the spot.
"A total of 6.750 high-quality eggs, at the price of 1 spirit stone per egg, the income is 1.125 spirit stones!" Ren Chao calculated while Fengyu thought to himself.
’50 high-quality Spirited Ducks each produce 135 eggs daily after the use of my spells and the inspiration’s boost, leading to 6.750 eggs! In addition, the price is actually higher than that of the shop I sold to!’ Fengyu was a bit surprised at the splurge of extra income, but he realised the origin of this was that the city didn’t intend to benefit off of him.
He was basically selling grain directly to the city for them to store - the city would give it to their cultivators and not sell it away. Rather than taking a few benefits, it’s better for the city to simply cut the benefits and do a favour to their own people.
Fengyu had once written a letter to the village, explaining he had become an inner citizen and that he couldn’t sell his goods to their shop. At that time, the village store’s steward had congratulated him and even told him that if he needed anything, he would be happy to comply. There was even a subtle hint at waving away the debt... but Fengyu ignored it.
"30 high-quality Spirited Ducks, one duck for 15 spirit stones, for a total of 450 spirit stones!" Ren Chao continued uninterrupted.
This was another point Fengyu asked - Ren Chao told him that each step of processing this duck would benefit various inner citizens, so since they weren’t interested in extra income, this duck would gain the favour of several cultivators!
He had once again been surprised at the city’s obvious intention to gain their favour, and knew that behind this intention, there was a deep net that would bind them to the city forever. But... he had already agreed that he would stay, so what was there to regret? He’d happily take any favour they wanted to hand out!
"And finally it is this small Silver Feather Spiritual Duck. As said previously, we buy them at 150 spirit stones per duck! Brother Fengyu, the cook and butcher last time asked me several times whether there was a possibility to increase the production. You see... butchering and cooking different kinds of beasts is extremely beneficial to cultivators following these paths, and previously, there were very few duck herds, only two of which were able to raise ducks of this stage."
Fengyu was surprised but understood. He thought for a moment before he agreed, "It’s possible..." last time Silver Feather had told him that she could increase the output, but he had told her not to do it if it would disrupt her cultivation.
In the end, she said that it was fine to do it as long as he increased her feed, she could give birth twice as much. This was a benefit after reaching the late stage, in which vitality recovers a lot faster. Combined with Fengyu’s various spells, she wouldn’t suffer at all as long as she ate enough to give birth more times!
"Really? Brother Fengyu, thank you for this favour! I will make sure to inform them! Do you wish for me to give them your name, so that they can also accept this favour?" Ren Chao asked - among inner citizens, spirit stones and anything else was not needed, instead, they basically only relied on favours.
If you don’t give them favours and have no connection, then most inner citizens would be kind to you, but they wouldn’t treat you better than they would treat outer citizens.
Every inner citizen is a master in their field - being treated the same as outer citizens would mean something like having to wait for a year to make a reservation at a restaurant, or wait a few years even when just visiting a doctor...
"Brother Chao, you can just tell them my name and even my field, in case they wish to send me any letter. But make sure to mention that the maximum is 12 ducks every year, one duck monthly. Whoever gets it, I don’t care." Fengyu said, making sure they knew that the ducks would definitely enter the city hall first, and that his hands were bound about any additional ducks.
"Thank you brother Fengyu!" Ren Chao smiled kindly and thanked him several times
