Raising Ducks for Daily Rewards
Chapter 146: Entering an Apothecary
A scent of herbs wafted over to Fengyu, drowning him in its vitality.
His eyes lit up as he felt the innate power contained in this mere smell, savouring it for a moment.
"Fellow daoist...? Fellow daoist?" a voice came from up front, the young cashier calling for Fengyu who stood in the doorway.
"Me?" Fengyu escaped his reverie and asked curiously, confused for a moment.
"Yes, fellow daoist, you stood by the doorway blocking the door, so I wanted to ask whether there is any problem." the young man was eloquent as he asked this. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
"Oh, haha, no, it was just the smell of herbs that hit me so hard. The vitality contained in even this smell... unfortunately it’s too turbid, containing too many different vitalities, making it unusable as a general use for healing, but it’s still quite strong!" Fengyu explained what he felt when he first entered the apothecary.
"Fellow daoist is a doctor?!" the cashier asked, shocked at seeing such a young doctor. Usually only doctors would discern the strong vitality in the smell of the herbs, even going as far as warning them about its turbidity.
"Just a small doctor, no need to be so surprised. Looking at fellow daoist, aren’t you a pharmacist yourself? A profession like yours is very close to the supplementation path of spiritual doctors!" Fengyu didn’t look down on pharmacists.
Looking at the whole apothecary, it’s very close to a pharmacy, different only in the way that it specialises in medicine instead of having a wide range of items as other pharmacies.
"Fellow daoist, you flatter me!" the man waved his hand and put away the cloth he used to clean the counter, looking slightly embarrassed before asking, "How may I help the esteemed doctor? Do you wish to purchase a prescription?"
"Please excuse my random intrusion, but I was truly just looking to see the inside of the apothecary, as there are quite a few on this street to the Grand Spirit Hospital!" Fengyu clarified and already turned around partially, unwilling to waste more of the pharmacists’ time.
"No no, please, come and see! My apothecary is a bit small compared to the others, but I still have everything required and can call it an apothecary! Why don’t I give you a small tour around it?" the pharmacist asked, an idea appearing in his mind -
A doctor who never entered a pharmacy, was this a new hire? In that case, he probably didn’t yet form any partnerships with the apothecaries! Even if he did, as long as he had a good impression, he might send a few patients his way, which would be a huge income!
"I would love to see the apothecary more," Fengyu nodded and followed behind the young man.
The entrance area was close to the window, with bright sunlight falling into a few sitting arrangements. Across the door was the counter where the pharmacist was standing at, cleaning it while his thoughts were in the skies.
Fengyu walked to the counter and was shown the huge boxed shelf containing hundreds of herbs, mostly unprocessed or initially processed. Next to it were a few glass bottles filled with processed herbs, powder and even some pills.
"These are simple fasting pills, arranged according to how long they can feed a cultivator." the pharmacist introduced when he saw Fengyu looking over them.
"We don’t sell other normal pills, but we do have the ability to create pastes and salves for wounds based on orders." he continued to explain.
Fengyu nodded, his understanding expanding as he looked over everything.
"Here, let me take you to our small garden!" the pharmacist said, going to the left of the counter and opening the loose wooden door.
Fengyu followed and walked down a passage, passing by several rooms which seemed to be storage or processing rooms, before he saw a brightly lit space at the end.
Leaving the passage, he was surprised to see that the mentioned garden was actually a real open garden, sunlight streaming into this space. It wasn’t even an acre large, an extremely small space to farm, yet each plant was meticulously cared for and grew in peak condition!
Sensing the spiritual power around, he was slightly surprised to see that it was at the second-stage mid grade!
It was only a slight surprise since, according to the customs of the city, such a place should have an extremely high value.
Considering this was the concentration of the garden, the cultivation room likely had a concentration of the high second stage!
His thoughts returned to the plants up front. There was no second stage plant among them, which was probably why they grew so densely and why the pharmacist could harvest enough materials for his whole apothecary from here.
"Fellow daoist’s herb garden is very well tended for, it makes me feel ashamed for not putting in as much for my field!" Fengyu chuckled at this sight.
"Oh? Fellow daoist is also a spiritual farmer?" the pharmacist was surprised to learn that someone who could become a spiritual doctor still had the time to farm, inexplicably reversing the order of Fengyu’s priorities.
"Ah, just a small farm raising a few ducks, it’s not much." Fengyu waved his hand nonchalantly.
"Ducks? A great beast, truly great! Ducks have an extremely high resistance to many illnesses, making their meat a rather well meat, which is recommended for intake for some sick cultivators. In addition, duck eggshells contain a strong vitality beneficial for bone growth and vitality!
If fellow daoist has the option in the future, we could buy the eggshells for a price." the pharmacist explained to Fengyu.
Hearing this, Fengyu was surprised while feeling that his own knowledge, in the end, was lacking. Many times he relied on his past life’s knowledge, but how could he compare to several educated people’s knowledge here?
An idea appeared in his mind - thirty ducks were born and raised every month, meaning he gained thirty complete duck eggshells every month. Even more, just as he had kept the feathers, he also kept the duck eggshells over the years!
