Chapter 63: Close to Truth

Han Ziyan finally had an opportunity to meet Second Grandpa Zhai, and he was all smiles when he saw her. Seeing this, Han Ziyan was so proud that she thought that her personality was so good that she was still well-liked by others. She was about to say ’yes’, but then she realized what Second Grandpa Zhai was asking her and she choked up on her words.

Why did Second Grandpa Zhai mention Han Ruochen as soon as he opened his mouth?

Han Ruochen was always cold-faced, and she was not even likeable with that few-words-speaking personality of hers. Why would Second Grandpa Zhai mistake her for Han Ruochen?

Han Ziyan couldn’t say yes nor could she say no with Han Ruochen present there, so she simply swallowed her words back and made a little sound in his throat. Second Grandpa Zhai thought that she was saying yes.

When Second Grandpa Zhai realised that he had found the one he was looking for, he was all smiles; he turned to look at Han Yichen and said to him, "Yichen, you have really raised a good daughter. She is just as righteous as her grandfather; you have given her the best of your morals."

"But Xiao Han, you should pay more attention to her health. I am worried that she must be shocked after what happened." Second Grandpa Zhai then turned to look at Han Ziyan and softly asked, "Have you seen a doctor? If you are feeling sick, then you should say those words out loud."

Han Ziyan was speechless. Why would she be sick? No, why would Han Rouchen be sick? With how crazy she was going, she was the one making everyone sick in the house. Especially her and her mother. What was even going on? She was totally confused at that very moment!

"Second Grandpa Zhai, you have the wrong person." Realising that the situation was getting even more confusing, Han Yichen cleared up the misunderstanding. "That’s my adoptive daughter, Han Ziyan. This is my daughter, Ruochen. Ah Chen, you have never met Second Grandpa Zhai, have you? Come here and greet him. You too, Jianyou. Show some respect to your elders."

Han Jianyou would have refused his father’s request, but he pursed his lips and agreed when he thought about how his father was also suffering under the actions of his mother and not just him alone.

"Second Grandpa Zhai," Han Ruochen and Han Jianyou greeted him politely.

Han Ruochen was also puzzled as to why Second Grandpa Zhai had come looking for her, and that too so eagerly.

Of course, Han Ruochen was not angry at the fact that Second Grandpa Zhai mistook Han Ziyan for her. She was quite happy to see Han Ziyan making a fool of herself. This woman liked snatching things from her very much; this was the first time she suffered the consequences of her actions.

"Oh, so you are Ruochen. No wonder you are so pretty. You look pretty, just like your grandmother; she is a fine woman. The prettiest in the village when she was young. I was just wondering whether I was wrong or something, because how could Sister Han’s granddaughter not be good-looking?" Second Grandpa Zhai chortled as if he had not said anything, but the damage that he landed on Han Ziyan was louder than a physical slap. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

After all, he just called her ugly!

Han Ruochen smirked and looked at Han Ziyan, and it was just as she expected; the woman’s face was so pale that she looked like she was about to faint. All the blood seemed to have been drained out of her face, and she looked really upset. When Han Ruochen saw her like this, she was really happy.

"Second Grandpa Zhai, there is no need for you to praise her so much. It is bad enough that she has grown older and no longer listens to me. Just a few days ago, she caught a few mantis shrimp and sold them for a few thousand yuan. Ever since then, she had been harping on giving up on her job and working as a fisherwoman. I really don’t know what to do to her? She has such a good job, and she doesn’t want it."

Though he said that, there was a hint of boastfulness in his tone.

Han Yichen didn’t feel like there was anything wrong with what he said; what he didn’t know was that his casual praise made Han Ziyan and Meng Yunhan hopeful. What? Han Ruochen wanted to give up on the job? Then they finally had a chance to snatch it from her.

Han Ziyan felt like she finally had new hope.

What she didn’t know was that her hope was doomed to be dashed because Han Ruochen had already sold her job.

"Times are changing, Yichen. Were you not the same? Even when your grandfather wanted you to continue working as a fisherman, you wanted to open a pig farm. Your daughter is only continuing your legacy." Second Grandpa Zhai didn’t feel like there was anything wrong with what Han Ruochen was doing. The country was slowly changing and shifting to more industrial fields. Anyway, Second Grandpa Zhai knew that Han Ruochen was a small village girl; even if she continued working as a teacher, at most, she would be married off to a stable man and nothing else.

The college exams were now open, but unfortunately for Han Ruochen, she was from the fisherman community. Her grandfather was one, and her great-grandfather was one as well. Even if she was good at studying, becoming a teacher in the county was as far as she could go because there was no way the colleges in the capital would have accepted her. It was a good thing that she was open to new things and thinking of something out of the box.

He then turned to look at Han Yichen and asked, "Yichen, do you know why I came to visit you today?"
