Chapter 64: The Truth Comes To Light

Han Yichen was indeed confused, as he couldn’t understand what brought Second Grandpa Zhai to their home. He paused for a moment and then asked, "Is something the matter, Second Grandpa Zhai?" He had a belief that something serious must have happened, or else Second Grandpa Zhai wouldn’t have come looking for him. Back then, when he refused to listen to Second Grandpa Zhai and Grandpa Zhai, they were really angry at him.

They even told him to never look for them if he was going to get married to Meng Yunhan. Even though their anger had diminished quite a lot, they still kept him at bay.

But after so many years, Second Grandpa Zhai came to look for him; there must be a reason.

Second Grandpa Zhai smiled at Han Yichen and said to him, "I am here to thank you on behalf of the Zhai family."

"The Zhai family?" Han Yichen frowned hard. Though he was close to the Zhai family when he was young, he was no longer close to them after he went against Second Grandpa Zhai and Grandpa Zhai and married Meng Yunhan. How come he was suddenly being thanked?

"Or maybe I should say that it is the main branch that wants to thank you." Second Grandpa Zhai became agitated. A fierce glint flashed in his eyes before he softly said, "You must not be clear about what happened, but I think I still need to thank you, Ruochen. If not for you, I am afraid things would have gone really bad." he took Han Ruochen’s hands in his and showed a look of gratitude on his face. "I am really thankful for your help; if you hadn’t saved Heng, I don’t know what we would have done."

Zhai Heng was the youngest grandson of his elder brother, and he was the only one who grew up by his parents’ side. His mother, Madam Zhai, simply adored her son, and he was her lifeblood. She cared for her more than she cared for her eldest son and second daughter. If something had happened to Zhai Heng on the night of that incident, his mother would have died of shock! Not to mention, Master Zhai would have been devastated as well.

As for his elder brother, Second Grandpa Zhai didn’t dare to think about how heartbroken he might have been.

"Saved the main branch grandson’s life?" Meng Yuhan was shocked. She whipped her head and glared at Han Ruochen, feeling a surge of hatred and panic in her heart. Why was it her? Why not, Ziyan? If it were Han Ziyan, then she could have used this life-saving grace to help her beloved.

"Ruochen, why don’t you tell what happened to your parents? It seems like they are still unaware of the details."

It wasn’t that they were just unaware of the details; the truth was that they were unaware of everything. Second Grandpa Zhai had no idea that she had never told her parents anything about what happened that night. She was someone who was locked up and tormented to the point where she didn’t even resemble being a human. How could she be scared of something so simple?

"Second Grandpa Zhai, I will do it." Han Ruochen then paused and asked, "Are you talking about the person who was beaten up on Saturday night?"

After all, he was the only person she had saved.

"You are really a good child." Second Grandpa Zhai nodded and agreed.

It seemed like she was right.

"Ruochen, what’s going on?" Han Yichen asked with a frown, as he could not understand what was happening.

"Dad, do you remember what happened just now?" Han Ruochen shot a cold look at her sister and mother, hinting at the incident where these two tried to ruin her reputation.

"Do you mean to say that it is related to that?" Han Yichen immediately understood what was going on and asked his daughter to continue.

"I usually stick to my routine, as I have no desire to stray from my usual routine. How can I get in touch with those people? It was on this Saturday that I wanted to return home quickly; who would have thought that I would run into a group of people who were beating a young man? They were really ruthless, and I was worried that these people might kill him, so I went to get the police. And that was how I saved the life of that young man; I guess he was Zhai Heng."

This was something that even Han Ruochen didn’t expect, and was just as surprised as Han Yichen and the rest.

"What’s the matter? Did something happen?" Second Grandpa Zhai knew how these things could hurt the reputation of a woman and worriedly asked. "Did someone misunderstand you?"

"Nothing, nothing at all. It was just a small misunderstanding." Han Yichen couldn’t hang his dirty laundry out in public, so he could only glare at his wife and adopted daughter.

The truth was finally out. Han Ruochen was not in a relationship with the leader of the thugs, nor did she deliberately make things difficult for Yang Jianming. In fact, Han Ruochen had saved the life of the precious grandson of the Zhai family. The grandson of Grandpa Zhai, the one who was once the Commander of the army!

And these two women!

Han Jianyou glanced at his father and then at his second sister. He had no idea what was going on, but it seemed like Han Ruochen was innocent all along, and it was his mother who caused a fuss for no reason.

"Misunderstanding?" Second Grandpa Zhai didn’t understand the meaning of Han Yichen’s words, but seeing his subtle glare at Meng Yunhan, he more or less understood the context. He smiled and said, "Thanks to Ruochen, my grandnephew is alright. I am really thankful for her help."

"Second Grandpa Zhai, please do not stand on ceremony with us," said Han Yichen, who understood what was going on and turned embarrassed. "My daughter did nothing worthy of your gratitude; at most, she called for help."

Anyway, it was normal for young men to fight among themselves.

"No, you do not understand." Second Grandpa Zhai’s eyes turned teary as he said, "Do you know why I only came to see you now? It’s because those people broke four of Heng’s ribs and one of them almost pierced his lungs. If Ruochen hadn’t saved his life, there is a very good chance that the boy would have died."
