Reborn In The 90's: Saving My Siblings With A Fishing System
Chapter 86: Snail Caviar
Han Ruochen was not used to using the extractor; thus, she failed the first and the second time. It was only the third time that she was finally able to pull the zebra mantis out of the ground. Once she got the hang of it, she pulled the second one as well. Both of the mantis shrimps weighed more than one pound, which was very good.
"It’s a zebra mantis shrimp!"
"Those who are educated are terrifying. Just look at that; she actually caught zebra mantis shrimps and two of them at that!"
The villagers were really jealous. They had been searching for something rare and expensive since the morning, but they never found anything, and Han Ruochen found zebra mantis shrimps in just a few minutes! How could they not be jealous? Earlier, they all thought that Tong Zhaodi was quite lucky that she caught so many mantis shrimps, but who would have thought Han Ruochen would surpass her as well?
Widow Wang looked at Han Ruochen, who was holding the bucket that had two wiggling zebra mantis shrimps and her face twisted with jealousy. She remarked with a chuckle, "Ruochen, what kind of trick are you using? You caught a peacock mantis shrimp just a few days ago, and now you caught zebra mantis shrimps."
Han Ruochen smiled at the woman. Even though she knew that she was trying to stir trouble, she simply shrugged and said to her, "What kind of trick can I use? I was just lucky. It’s not like I can see what is under the surface?"
The villagers didn’t doubt Han Ruochen. After all, they all were from a fishing village and believed in fate; anyway, they didn’t believe that Han Ruochen, a woman who was younger than them by more than twenty or so years, would be able to defeat them in terms of experience.
They had a lot of knowledge when it came to looking for seafood on the seashore. They could find holes that were spitting out water faster than anyone, but whether they would find clams or mantis shrimps in the holes depended on their luck. Who else could they blame if not fate? Han Ruochen was lucky enough to dig into holes where zebra mantis shrimps were hiding, while they could only dig out clams.
Clams were easy to find; thus, they were not sold at a good price. They could sell one pound of clams for only a yuan. And that was only because Second Uncle Han was nice to the elderly, or else if they were to sell clams in the city, they would get a yuan for five catties.
Tong Zhaodi was shocked.
When Han Ruochen told her that she was going to help her lead a good life, she thought that her life would only get slightly better. Who would have thought that Han Ruochen would actually point out the holes that had mantis shrimps inside of them, and so many of them at that!?
Han Ruochen didn’t care what the others thought about her at the moment. She turned her attention back to the one hole that she had been eyeing for a moment and started digging the surface with the shovel. Once she had created enough space, she used the extractor to pull out not just one but a giant plastic ring. At first, everyone thought that she was pulling nothing but trash out, and Widow Wang even sneered coldly and remarked, "What? Don’t tell me that you have started cleaning the beach as well, Han Ruochen?"
But before she could continue mocking Han Ruochen, Old Man Li exclaimed, "Is that snail caviar?"
Snail caviar was a rare delicacy that could be sold for more than fourteen thousand yuan. This was –this was simply a stroke of luck!
When Han Ruochen pulled out the zebra mantis shrimp, the onlookers were already jealous, but now that they saw her pulling out the extremely rare snail caviar. As if she were pulling out a bunch of useless clams! How could a person be this lucky? How could it be possible?
The ones who were even more shocked were Widow Wang and her useless brother. The two of them were looking for seafood in this very spot just a few minutes ago. How come they didn’t find this rare delicacy, but this woman did?
They were both in the same spot, so why did Han Ruochen dig out snail caviar, while they only got some useless clams?
Han Ruochen also noticed that there was something wrong with Widow Wang. She noticed that the complexion of the woman had turned deadly pale, and she looked like she was about to faint any second now. Han Ruochen was worried that the woman would extort her in case she fell sick because of her and hurriedly caught her. "Aunt Wang, are you alright? Do you need a doctor?"
Widow Wang was so angry that she was breathing hard, but she couldn’t say that she was upset because Han Ruochen found something that she and her brother could not. She could only stiffly smile and say, "I am fine."
She just didn’t believe that Han Ruochen was this lucky. She turned around and started digging around the same spot where Han Ruochen had dug. She was determined to dig for the snail caviar today. If Han Ruochen could do it, she could do it too!
Tong Zhaodi came running. Along with the mantis shrimp, she had also dug some clams. Though these were worthless in the eyes of others, for Tong Zhaodi, these clams were extra meat. She could cook or stew them behind her mother’s back and eat a little meat to nourish herself. She wanted to see what Han Ruochen had dug out this time to cause such a stir when she heard that Han Ruochen had actually dug out snail caviar!
Snail caviar! How expensive was that? The last time someone found it, they were able to sell it for fifteen thousand yuan!
