Chapter 100: Chapter 100 - The Culprits(Part 2)

"Can’t you make yourself visible, already?" Sighed the guy who’d come into sight.

"There’s no harm in being cautious, I would prefer not to be careless," Came the response from his invisible partner.

Another male voice, so it’s two guys. Hm...the outfit that the visible one is wearing, it’s high quality leather armor. Commoners can’t afford armor of that quality, looks like they really are Nobles, and most likely Knights.

"This is starting to get boring, can’t someone else take over for us? I could really use a break...remember how we almost died against that guy who was fighting alongside a Monster?" Groaned the first guy.

Wait, what?

"Yes, that was quite the unpleasant experience, but there’s been no sign of them for two years now. As for this, you know there’s no one who can take our place, and I’ve explained the importance of this task many times to you.

The Commoners of this town who are registered as Adventurers are stronger than the general average across all towns in Obsidian, not to mention that several of our fellow Knights disappeared in this town a few years ago.

However, these Adventurers could be valuable assets, so killing them would be a waste. So instead, we keep them preoccupied with these Monster outbreaks, our work here ensures that they’re kept busy and in check. How many times do I have to point that out to you?" Sighed the invisible one.

Ah, so that’s why they’ve been releasing Monsters in the areas around town. And it sounds like they’re both Knights too...

"The other one is right next to him, to his left. Both of them are Knights, based on what I’m hearing. They’re more or less walking side by side, and there’s no more than a gap of a couple of inches between them," I informed the others, as the pair headed for the waterfall.

"I have him in my sights, and a clear shot to his left as well," Responded Terriz, the Adventurer with the slime cannon Soul Weapon.

"Alright, get ready to restrain them, I’m activating the barrier...now!" Rosary signaled as she triggered the Magic Item, a large barrier forming around the area.

The invisible one then turned visible as the Skill nullifying barrier took effect, a look of alarm appearing on both the Knights’ faces as they stared at the barrier.

The one who had just turned visible was tall and slender, with dark green hair in a flat-top cut and light blue eyes. The other one was a bit shorter with a slight muscular build, with a bald head, mutton chops and black eyes.

"What the hell is this!?" Exclaimed the green haired Knight, right before Terriz fired out two sticky globs at them.

The bald one was too slow to react, one of the globs hitting his feet and sticking them to the ground firmly. As he struggled to lift his feet, the green haired one swiftly sprang back, but his left foot got hit by the other glob, his backward jump abruptly halting.

He fell onto one knee with his other leg stretched out in front of him, the foot stuck to the ground. He began to stand back up in a hurry, starting to pull on his stuck foot as he got back on his feet.

I then swiftly swung my whip out towards them while extending it, hitting the back of the green haired one and knocking him forward a bit, before it swung around him and the other guy a few times, wrapping around them before I gave it a rapid tug while simultaneously contracting it sharply, in order to tighten the whip around them both.

They got pulled in towards each other as the whip abruptly constricted around them, restraining them firmly. Rosary then shot out from her hiding spot and rapidly sprinted towards them, her claws poised to strike as she closed in.

Suddenly, she halted and sprang back in alarm as earth spikes burst out around the two of them. My eyes then widened as a Magic Circle appeared a few inches in front of me, a bolt of lightning shooting out of it towards me.

I quickly sprang back and fired out a lightning bolt of my own in retaliation, canceling out the attack, but a few streaks of lightning burst out upon impact, one zapping my hand and causing me to inadvertently loosen my grip on the handle of my whip, dropping it.

And with the tight restriction around them suddenly given some slack, the two Knights quickly broke free of the grasp of my whip before I could grab the handle again, swiftly splitting up away from each other to cover more ground.

Gunshots rang out as the two other Adventurers fired at either of them, the bullets rapidly shooting towards the pair. But they were much more quick to react this time, the element of surprise now severely diminished...

"Manifest Soul Weapon: Surround Shield!" Chanted the green haired guy, a wide, circular silver shield forming in front of him and blocking the bullets, moving around him to deflect the bullets coming at different angles.

"Elemental Earth: Earth Wall!" Exclaimed the bald guy, forming a wall of earth in front of himself to block the bullets aimed at him.

Rosary then sprang up behind the green haired one and slashed at the back of his neck, the shield flying around behind him and blocking her attack, before he formed a large rock in front of himself to block the bullets, as well as firing out lightning bolts to vaporize some incoming sticky globs.

I then swiftly contracted my whip, took aim at the bald one and rapidly stiffened and extended it out towards him like a needle, zooming in towards his heart from behind.

"Hey, watch out!" Snapped the green haired guy as he noticed my whip, the bald one immediately reacting and leaping off to the right, letting out a stifled cry of pain as I pierced through his left arm and burst through.

I then sprang away, wrenching my whip out of his arm as the other guy fired a blast of flames at me.

"Damn, that hurt! Manifest Soul Weapon: Leecher!" Exclaimed the bald guy as blood gushed out of his shoulder, forming a blade in his right hand.

It was a bit longer than a dagger, and looked like a large glass needle, with a small syringe-like tip at the other end of the handle. He then shot towards the direction the bullets were coming from, chanting to form a floating boulder in front of himself to block the bullets.

I want to try and attack him, but damn, is this green haired guy tough! He’s fending off Rosary with his shield, vaporizing Terriz’s sticky projectiles with fireballs and blocking bullets with chunks of earth, on top of attacking me with Spells using Distance Casting.

He’s casting multiple different Elemental Spells at the same time, and without chanting. I hate to admit it, but his Spellcasting is at a more advanced level than mine is. His aim is a bit off since he can’t see me, but it’s still too close for comfort.

A cry of pain then echoed out from ahead of the bald guy, as he leapt into a row of bushes and the sound of flesh being torn through echoed out. A choked, gurgling gasp rang out, before the bald guy emerged from the bushes, splattered with blood across his face and clothes.

His glass-like blade was glowing, before he suddenly stabbed himself with the syringe-end of his weapon, the glow in the blade-end fading...as the injury I’d inflicted to his shoulder closed up.

I see, when he damages an opponent with the blade, he must be absorbing their Mana or something, and then his weapon converts it to healing energy, which he can inject into his body and regenerate any injuries.

Damn it, this is why I was against being a part of a large team...I couldn’t get out into the open because I might have gotten shot in the process, or struck by one of those sticky projectiles.

A couple of bullets have narrowly missed hitting Rosary as well, there’s no coordination...in fact, after we failed to restrain and incapacitate them, we’ve only been holding each other back.

Rosary then leapt away as the green haired guy unleashed powerful streaks of lightning towards her, before he shot forward and blasted out flames at the other two Adventurers.

Terriz sprang out from behind his hiding place in alarm, quickly starting to take aim at the Knight with his cannon. But before he could fire, the Knight sent his shield rapidly spinning towards him. Terriz began to leap out of the way in desperation, but he was too slow to react.

The shield struck the side of his neck, a loud crunch echoing out as Terriz’s neck broke upon impact, a whimpering gasp of pain escaping his lips as he collapsed onto the ground, coughing out blood before going limp.

I swung my whip across at the Knight, but his shield swiftly flew out in between him and my whip, deflecting my whip away before he shot towards the other Adventurer firing at him, moving in a rapid zigzag and evading the incoming bullets.

Suddenly, as the bullets ceased, likely as the shooter was out of ammo, the Knight put on a burst of speed and unleashed a wave of rising earth spikes in that direction.

A gurgled scream of pain echoed out as the spikes pierced through the Adventurer, before the Knight fired out a powerful lightning blast in the direction the scream came from, a vicious spark and crackle bursting out as it struck her, likely killing her.

It had barely even been a minute since we activated the barrier, it all happened so fast, and in what seemed like the blink of an eye...three members of this team were killed...
