Chapter 104: Chapter 104 - Frost Dragon(Part 3)

Elemental Flame: Double Ultra Fire Blast! Again! Again! And again!

The Frost Dragon let out a roar of pain as severe burns appeared across its body as my intense, powerful blasts of flames struck it, burning off its scales and scorching its skin, wisps of smoke billowing out of the burnt spots...but the damage wasn’t even close to as severe as I’d like.

It snarled viciously before shooting out its frost breath at us, which I evaded by opening another portal in my Pocket Dimension and pulling Rosary in with me, letting out a strained sigh as we narrowly avoided getting frozen.

"Thanks, again...I’m sorry, I’m not being much help, am I?" Grimaced Rosary with a frustrated look on her face, clenching her fists.

"We need a plan...if I can get an opening where I have a clear shot at one of its vital spots, I can kill it with my whip. The problem is that it has sharp instincts and a quick reaction time, it may be a big target, but it’s definitely not easy to hit," I frowned in response.

"Yeah, that’s true...if I can hit it with my claws, I can paralyze it. Normally, I probably wouldn’t be able to pierce through its scales, but I can target the spots that you hit with your flame Spells, since the scales around those spots were burnt off," She replied, after mulling it over. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

"Hm, that’s risky, but if you use your Stealth Skill to sneak up on it, that could work," I nodded as I considered the odds of that succeeding.

"Yes, I-...huh? Wait, how do you-...?" She began in bemusement.

"You mentioned it earlier. Though, well, I already kinda figured that was one of your Skills," I informed her with a shrug.

"Oh. Anyway, uh...let’s get back out there, if it went past us, Stealth will be more effective since I’ll be able to sneak up on it from a blind spot," She responded, as she took in a deep breath and slowly exhaled in an effort to compose herself.

I nodded, before opening a portal back outside, shutting it as we both stepped out. Rosary then shot towards the Frost Dragon, which was a few dozen meters past where we were, blasting out its frost breath at the nearby buildings and people.

Screams were ringing out in every direction, and the way it was echoing around me kinda reminded me of surround sound speakers. Anyway, as Rosary zipped towards the spot she was targeting, a spot by the base of its tail that one of my flame blasts had struck.

As she closed in on the Dragon, she leapt forward towards the burnt spot with her claws poised to strike. She landed and drove her claws at its burnt skin, hitting it and starting to pierce in.

The Dragon let out a sharp growl before rapidly flapping its wings, sending out a powerful gust of wind that sent Rosary flying back in this direction rapidly. I quickly formed a wall of sand to break her fall, grimacing as the Dragon started to turn around.

"Damn it, it’s skin it too thick! I think I almost got through, but it countered before I could. For my paralysis to take effect, I have to pierce deep enough to draw the blood of my target, but I failed by just a couple of millimeters," She frowned, as the Frost Dragon turned around and narrowed its eyes at us.

"How much longer till the other teams get back?" I inquired warily, as I swung my whip at the Dragon, who swiftly flew up to evade it, going higher as I flicked my wrist to crack the whip straight up at it while extending the length as fast as possible.

But the force created by the flaps of its wings slowed down the upward swing of my whip until it completely negated its momentum.

"Initiate Skill: Bind!" Snapped Rosary, as the Dragon began to open its jaws.

But it reacted quickly, swatting at the chains with its arm, the chains wrapping around its forearm before it began to charge up its frost breath.

"Crap, time to retreat ag-...!" I started in alarm, before trailing off as I spotted a familiar weapon rapidly spinning in towards the left side of its neck...it was an axe.

The Dragon noticed and began to move away in a hurry, but it was too slow to react. It let out a deafening, anguished roar of pain as the axe easily tore through its left shoulder and sliced off its arm, deeply gashing across its chest as well.

"What the...?" Muttered Rosary in disbelief.

The weapon then disappeared before it could crash onto a building to the right of the Frost Dragon, right as I spotted a certain blonde, twin tailed figure vanishing from atop a roof.

As the Dragon cried out in agony with its jaws wide open, I quickly took aim, before I stiffened and extended my whip straight towards its open mouth. The tip of my whip hit the roof of its mouth before it could react and then burst out through the back of its head.

Its roars of pain then faded, its body starting to plummet as its wings slumped down. I then abruptly swung my arm up higher, splitting open its head and upper jaw in one, swift motion, before its body crashed onto the frozen ground, bits of ice flying out upon impact as a misty cloud floated up around it.

I let out a strained sigh of relief as the Monster’s blood poured out and pooled around its body, showing no signs of movement. I have to admit, Prysm did well...if she hadn’t intervened when she did, the Dragon would most likely have still been alive right now.

"Well, that could’ve been a lot worse...though, it’s still pretty bad, huh?" I mused, staring around at all the destruction the Frost Dragon had caused.

Almost half the town has been frozen and destroyed, several buildings now laying in a pile of rubble and dozens of people frozen solid. It had barely been even a couple of minutes since we got here from the spot where the Dragon had been summoned, and it was able to do this much damage in that time.

Catastrophic is right, holy shit. It’s also clear why Monsters with high Threat Levels can be even more dangerous if you’re unfamiliar with them in terms of actual experience...knowing what they’re capable of and actually experiencing it for yourself are two very different things.

I’ve read about Dragons, including Frost Dragons, so I knew what it could do...but in reality, its abilities were far more intense and powerful than I could’ve imagined.

That frost breath was no joke, it’s effectively an instakill attack. And then there’s its incredible physical strength and reaction time, it would’ve been a tremendous challenge to slay even without the frost breath.

"Did you see who attacked it before you dealt the finishing blow?" Suddenly inquired Rosary with a frown.

Yeah, I should’ve figured that she’d be wondering about that.

"No, I didn’t. That axe was probably a Soul Weapon, I can’t imagine a normal weapon being able to slice off a Dragon’s arm like that. I thought you might recognize the weapon since you probably know most, if not all, of the Adventurers in town," I replied, feigning ignorance.

"Hm...well, I do know of a couple of Adventurers with axe Soul Weapons, but that one looked different. And besides, the ones I mentioned, knowing what they’re capable of, wouldn’t have been able to pull that off. Well, whoever it was, I suppose we owe them a debt of gratitude," She remarked thoughtfully.

I guess she’s right, I should thank Prysm for that when I see her. Chances are, she saved my life back there. Who knows how much longer I could’ve continued fighting that Monster without being killed? I probably would’ve retreated to my Pocket Dimension before long if the battle had continued...

"I’d say mission accomplished, since we caught the culprits red-handed, and one of them died, but...looking at the state the town is in, calling this a success feels wrong," I sighed wistfully.

"Yeah, I definitely wouldn’t call this a success. Don’t forget, on top of a Catastrophic Grade running wild, one of the culprits managed to escape, and he saw our faces. We should leave town as soon as possible, maybe by tomorrow," She suggested, after thinking things over.

Uh-oh. I still haven’t thought of a good way to tell her I’d rather travel alone. What do I do? How exactly should I tell her without making her suspicious? Can’t think of a good excuse, so I’ll play along for now...hopefully something comes to mind later...

"Yeah, good call. And if the Knights do show up, we should tell the Guild to inform them that this Dragon showed up out of nowhere and that the two of us were killed and eaten, with no traces of our bodies left," I proposed, as I mulled it over.

"Oh, that’s pretty smart, sounds good to me."

I’d feel bad if the entire town was wiped out because of me, I really should’ve worn a disguise, especially since I’d predicted that Nobles were involved in this. Oh, well, too late to complain about it now...
