Chapter 115: Chapter 115 - Izzy vs Aries(Part 2)

Point-of-View: Argent Stryker

———————————————————————————

The air is shimmering violently, the air scorchingly hot, it felt like I was inside a furnace. I can barely breathe, every breath feels like it’s burning my throat and lungs. Sweat was pouring down my face and body, the entire area lit up in a fiery, pale blue.

Blue flames, a truly rare sight...the Plasma Dragon King, Izzy’s mother, is one of the only creatures in the entire world capable of creating these flames. There are a couple of other Demon Grade Monsters that can use it too, and Izzy herself, of course.

Blue flames are said to burn hotter and more fiercely than normal flames, and are also much, much harder to extinguish. You can’t just douse it with a bucket of water, most of the water would evaporate before it could even touch the flames.

Izzy can extinguish it though, as can the others capable of using it. They can draw the flames back into themselves, and the more the flames spread before they do so, the more energy they gain when they do.

That’s great and all, but uh...I’m seriously starting to struggle now. If this keeps up, I’ll...I’ll probably suffocate and die soon. I-I’m getting seriously light-headed, I need her to put a stop to this immediately...!

"H-hey, Izzy! I think that’s enough!" I yelled out towards her, before coughing sharply and hoarsely...ow, it hurts to yell, my throat is definitely burnt.

Fortunately, she heard me and cut off the flames, letting out a slow exhale before opening her jaws wide, all the flames spreading out across the street and buildings getting drawn back towards her.

The flames flowed into her mouth, before she snapped her jaws shut as the last of it returned, exhaling sharply through her nose as clouds of smoke burst out of her nostrils.

I feel kinda faint, I don’t think I’ve ever sweated this much in my life, and I wasn’t even that close to any of the flames...that Knight Commander is most likely dead.

I glanced in that direction as several clangs suddenly echoed out, the wall of blades she’d formed in front of herself was collapsing.

As it completely fell apart, the blades all faded away, disappearing as she could no longer keep her Soul Weapon manifested...I gotta say, it’s impressive that she was able to maintain her Soul Weapon Ascension for this long as it is.

Usually, striking someone with a powerful blow and injuring them is enough to upset their concentration enough to undo the manifestation of their Soul Weapon, but she didn’t waver in that regard even after Izzy struck her with her fist.

"Is she still alive?" I inquired, as I jogged over to Izzy, my throat dry.

"It’s possible, though I can’t tell from here," She replied with a shrug.

"Then let’s go have a look."

We then headed over towards the Knight, while I picked up some belts off the charred corpses of the other Knights, at least the ones that were still somewhat intact.

As we reached the Knight Commander and took a look at her, I noticed her chest slightly moving up and down...she’s still breathing. Wow, amazing, she actually survived that.

She’s covered in extremely severe burns, looks like she took her helmet off, which must be that molten puddle of metal behind her. There’s dirt all over her face and armor, and a pile of it on the ground around her...I see, she must have used an earth Spell to coat herself in sand to withstand the heat.

That’s pretty impressive, and kinda reckless, but it worked, she’s alive. Still though, given her condition, she’ll die before too long if left in this state. I checked her pulse as I grabbed her wrist...yeah, it’s pretty weak, and getting weaker.

I then reached for her best and searched through the pockets on it...ow, it’s hot! Let’s hope that Magic Item she used still works...ah, here we go. I ran my Mana through it, letting out a sigh of relief as it activated and began to glow.

I pressed the glowing end of it, a small crystal ball, onto her, healing her. The severe burns all over her body then faded significantly, though not fully. Her labored breathing grew more relaxed and smoother, her pulse stabilizing as well.

I then used the Item on myself, since my hands had gotten a bit burnt just now, not to mention my burnt throat and probably lungs too.

"Alright, let’s take her down to the sewers and hide, we can restrain her with these belts," I suggested, as I held up the belts I’d taken off the dead Knights.

"Yeah, okay. That was so much fun, even though it was an easy win in the end. I can’t believe she survived my last attack," Responded Izzy, as she picked up the Knight and carried her over her shoulder.

Oh, wow, I just noticed that my feet are a bit struck to the street...Izzy actually managed to melt the asphalt. Man, blue flames are seriously intense. If unleashed across a wide area, it could conceivably burn until the entire world is engulfed in flames.

Izzy once mentioned that if she’s about to be killed, she’ll unleash as much blue flames as she can. Her logic being that, if she’s going to die, then she might as well take the rest of the world with her, or at least as much of it as possible.

But other than Demon Grade Monsters, it’s highly unlikely that there’s anyone who’s anywhere close to her level. This Knight is probably as close as a human can get through natural means...I can likely surpass her eventually, thanks to the boost I got by eating Monsters, but even at my full potential I doubt I’d be a match for Izzy if she genuinely went all out.

Even setting aside her incredible strength and speed, and the power of her regular ranged attacks, her blue flames are an extremely powerful trump card, and then there the Negative Energy blasts she inherited from her Demon side.

If she truly charges up her Negative Energy, its destructive power reaches unrivaled levels. But it takes time to charge it up to such a level, while she can use blue flames at full power almost instantly.

And in terms of potential when it comes to inflicting widespread destruction, it’s arguably even more potent than Negative Energy. How could anyone rival that...after all, there’s no Spell a human can cast that’s more powerful than a full-powered blast of those flames...

"Let’s fucking go! I did it, I finally managed to create blue flames!" I grinned triumphantly, as I formed an ember of blue flames in my palm.

"N-no way, that should be impossible...," Stuttered Rosary in disbelief, staring at the flames in bewilderment, "I-I mean, blue flames are a legendary attack than only a handful of the most powerful beings in the entire world can use, the Demon Grades! It shouldn’t be possible for a human to cast it, how did you do it!?"

It’s the 15th of December, about a week since we’d gotten to Kaygee Town. Prysm and I had progressed all the way down to the twenty-seventh floor of the Labyrinth, and things were starting to get pretty damn challenging now.

In light of all the various and more powerful Monsters we’d encountered, my interest was piqued and I studied up on more different Monsters species in as much detail as I could find.

Eventually, I found myself reading about the Dragon Kings, and an ability of the Plasma Dragon King, Frielektra, came to my attention. The ability to create blue flames, widely considered to be one of, if not the most, dangerous attacks you could come across.

The Dragon Kings are forces of nature, the most powerful beings in the entire world. And yet, blue flames didn’t sound all that remarkable to me, since it’s not exactly something that’s uncommon in my old world.

And by calling it legendary, it’s effectively implied that humans can’t use blue flames. I took it as a personal challenge and have been trying my hand at it between resting and training in the Labyrinth. And after four days at it, I finally pulled it off.

"Well, clearly, it’s not impossible, seeing as how I’m doing it right now," I smirked in response.

"How...how did you do it?" Rosary asked me, still unable to process what she was witnessing.

"Yeah, I want to know too," Chimed in Prysm curiously.

"You can’t use fire Spells though."

"I know, but it’s still interesting."

It actually wasn’t that difficult...a blue flame is more pure and cleaner flame, caused by providing the flame with more oxygen for a more complete combustion.

So, I just visualized that and tried to manifest it. And the more detailed and scientific I got with my image of it, the closer I got to pulling it off. This result is still imperfect though, my visualization of it definitely has room for improvement.

This world’s science is quite that advanced yet, so I’ll need to dumb it down a bit in my explanation...

"Well, I just tried imagining more pure flame, I guess? And then I kept adjusting it till I worked," I shrugged in response.

Yeah, okay, that wasn’t great.

"I see...I don’t get it," Frowned Rosary in bemusement.

"I don’t think I can explain it any better than that, sorry. I mean, I’ve still got a ways to go myself before this is properly viable in combat...still, it’s pretty cool to have invented a new Spell that’s almost definitely never been done before by another person," I grinned, before adding, "I think I’ll keep the name simple...Elemental Flame: Dragon Fire."
