Chapter 142: Chapter 142 - The Capital(Part 10)

Point-of-View: Phyurio Slymaster Bhaytes

———————————————————————————

"Manifest Soul Weapon: Crowbar," I chanted, as a Knight with a short sword Soul Weapon slashed at me.

As my weapon manifested, I sidestepped and caught the blade between the prongs of my crowbar, giving it a twist to wrench the blade out of his hands and flung it away, before powerfully slamming the blunt part of the crowbar against the back of his neck through the gap under his helmet, a loud crunch echoing out as he went limp with a sharp gasp of pain and collapsed onto the ground.

With that, there’s only three Knights left. I shot towards one of them, swinging my crowbar across as he chanted and fired out a blast of lightning at me, dissipating it. While my weapon is mostly metal, it has a rubber handle, so I didn’t get electrocuted.

I then leap towards him as he shot out a fire Spell, jumping over it and swinging my crowbar down at the top of his head, as he wasn’t wearing any protection on his head. He swiftly raised his Soul Weapon, a large hammer with a long, thin handle, to block by swing, a loud clang echoing out as our weapons clashed.

"You Knights really should stop wearing metal armor, it’s so easy to kill you," I remarked with a smirk, as I used Distance Casting and Chantless Casting to firing out a sharp bolt of lightning at him from behind.

He let out a stunned cry of pain as it struck his armor, falling to his knees as he struggled to move, his armor shaking as he trembled in pain and desperation.

I then rapidly swung my crowbar down, striking the top of his head with a loud cracking sound as I caved in his skull, blood bursting out through his nostrils as he fell face forward onto the floor.

As I swung my crowbar across to get the blood off of it, I glanced up as two gasps of pain echoed out, to see that Gior had killed the last two Knights guarding this place, having skewered them both with his blade, before violently yanking it back out with a sharp twist.

"You could’ve saved one for me, I only got to kill five," I sighed wistfully.

"It’s not a competition, just because I killed two more than you did. Now, then, while some of these Knights were our targets, I don’t recognize any of them from the list of Lieutenants we have," He remarked, as he opened his Pocket Dimension and took out a stack of papers, rifling through them, "These Knights were all Generals or lower ranked, no wonder they couldn’t put up much of a fight."

"Hm, I think I recognized a couple of Lieutenants outside the castle when we first got here, but Izzozon killed them...that’s when the rest started to retreat," I recalled wryly.

"Never thought we’d work with a Monster, it almost feels wrong to call her one...she just seemed like a normal girl, who happened to be a bit violent, but that’s not exactly an inhuman trait," He mused thoughtfully, before turning to the door, "Now, then, let’s see if we can’t break this down, shall we?"

"Sounds good to me, let’s give it a try," I replied with a nod, before firing out a lightning Spell at the door.

My blast shot forward with a vicious crackle and struck the door with immense force, streaks of lightning bursting out upon impact...but not leaving even a scratch on it.

"Argent’s Intangibility Skill would come in quite handy right now...and if that didn’t work, there’s his Royal blood that might have been able to open the door," Sighed Gior wistfully, before he shot forward with his Soul Weapon poised to strike.

He drove the blade straight at the door, grimacing as a loud clang rang out as he struck it, stepping back as his arms began shaking.

"You okay?" I inquired in bemusement.

"The impact jarred my arms, that was really unpleasant," He frowned, before turning his gaze towards the spot on the door he’d struck.

"We could try using more powerful Spells, but I don’t think it’ll work. If a Soul Weapon can’t penetrate it, or even leave so much as a scratch on it, it probably really is impenetrable through any normal means. We’re not gonna be able to break through with just brute force," I remarked with a shake of my head.

"I tried using Switch on it to swap places with it and take it right off the hinges, but it didn’t work," He replied with a grimace.

"Maybe we should-...hm? Hey, I think someone’s heading this way...there’s a lot of movement all over within the range of my Life Detect Skill, but this one’s especially fast, and getting closer and closer to this spot," I suddenly noticed, turning around.

"Let’s get out of here then. There’s nothing more we can do here anyway," He responded, putting away his Soul Weapon, as I did the same.

"Yeah, we-...huh? Uh-oh, the person I’m sensing is getting really close, it was hard to tell how far they were since this place has so many turns and corners," I frowned warily, before adding, "I don’t think we can avoid running into them."

"In that case, we’ll wait for them here and cut them down before leaving," He declared, chanting to bring back his Soul Weapon, right as the person I was sensing appeared around the corner up ahead and came into sight.

"What the-...? What’s going on here?" She frowned in disbelief, before turning to us and narrowing her eyes, "Who are you two? You’re not Knights, are you?"

"We just got here and found these men like this, we thought whoever did this might still be around so we manifested our Soul Weapons...Commander," Answered Gior, playing dumb.

Right, we’re not supposed to kill her, she’s one of the few Nobles actively trying to bring about positive change.

"You’re lying, I can sense it...you can’t fool me so easily," She responded without a wary look of suspicion in her eyes, before chanting, "Manifest Soul Weapon: Justice Shards! I get it, you two must be the ones who have been terrorizing the capital for the last few years...come along quietly and you won’t get hurt!"

"Funnily enough, I believe you...but we can’t do that. We’d rather not fight you, Miss Aries Velenet, so get out of our way," Responded Gior, but she didn’t comply, her six floating blades shooting towards us rapidly.

"Did you really think that was gonna wor-...!?" I began in exasperation, before he suddenly grabbed my arm.

"Initiate Skill: Switch!" He quickly chanted, the two of us swapping places with the Knight Commander.

As he then chanted to activate his Invisibility Field Skill, I fired out a couple of powerful lightning bolts back at her. She quickly spun around and gathered her blades in front of herself defensively, before we raced away through the castle.

"You, uh, do remember the turns we took to get here, don’t you? Because I don’t remember the way at all," I whispered sheepishly, as I heard the thud of her footsteps racing forward.

"Yes, I knew you wouldn’t so I made sure to keep track," He replied, as we raced around a corner.

"I can sense that she’s stopped running after us, she’s probably decided against chasing blindly," I remarked, as I felt her stop and head back towards the door of the safe room, before I added, "So, what do we do now?"

"Hm...maybe it’s time we left the capital. We’ve eliminated a large number of the most rotten Nobles, and since we failed to kill the Royal family, security around the castle is going to get much tighter. And we couldn’t have pulled this off on our own anyway, so there’s no point in trying again by ourselves, assuming that Argent and Izzozon have left the capital," He surmised after taking a moment to mull it over.

"Sounds good...I was getting pretty sick of spending most of my time in the sewers anyway," I replied wryly.

"Yeah, that hasn’t been great. Anyway, escaping shouldn’t be too difficult, this incident has undoubtedly thrown the capital into chaos, and we’re still wearing the Knight armor we stole, we should be able to slip right out without anyone batting an eye," He remarked, as we turned another corner.

"Well, unless the Knight Commander sends out a message to keep an eye out for imposters disguised as Knights. Plus, my Transformation Skill only lasts an hour, it won’t last all the way to one of the gates, and also-...," I began poking holes in his plan.

"Okay, I get it! We’ll brute force our way out if we have to, happy now?"

"I mean, kind of...once we’re out, we can finally have hot meals on the regular again. Well, you not so much, since you have to stay hidden thanks to having both Attributes," I grinned sheepishly.

"You’re an idiot," He sighed in exasperation...
