Chapter 183: Chapter 183 - The Haven(Part 12)

"So, uh...that happened," I muttered in bemusement, a couple of hours later.

"Mhm, it sure did...and I regret nothing. Wanna do it again sometime?" Responded Prysm with a seductive smirk.

"Hm...well, we’ve done it once, so I guess the ship has sailed. Plus it felt pretty good, so there’s that too. But let’s be clear here...I have no interest in getting into a relationship with anyone, I’ve never really understood romance. So-..."

"Yeah, yeah, I already knew all that. I’m fine with this...after all, now there’s another reason for you to keep me around," She replied with a wry smile.

"Hmph...it’s not like I’d abandon you at this point," I muttered as I averted my gaze.

"What was that? I didn’t quite hear you," She responded curiously.

"It was nothing. Anyway, you better get going, I prefer to sleep alone. And this bed is too small for two people, anyway," I remarked as I gave her a light push on the back.

"Yeah, okay. It’d probably be too hot to sleep with you when there’s no air conditioning here," She replied with a sigh, as she stood up and picked up her clothes, putting them on.

Have to agree with that. It’s not warm or anything, it’s actually a little bit cool...but I’d prefer it to be cooler. Oh, I know, I can just form a big block of ice in the middle of the room!

"See you tomorrow, I guess," I yawned, as Prysm headed for the door.

"Mhm, yeah...goodnight, Larrk," She smiled as she opened the door, giving me a wave before heading out and shutting it behind her.

I then used an ice Spell to create a large chunk of ice in the middle of the room, before pulling the covers over me and shutting my eyes.

Whew, that wore me out. I’m completely spent, time for a nice, long snooze session. I let out a yawn as I felt myself starting to drift off, falling asleep in no time...

...

"Still no signal. Guess we gotta go up further," I remarked, as I checked on the display of my phone.

"That device really lets you speak to someone dozens of kilometers away?" Inquired Iefyr with a skeptical look on his face.

"Mhm, sure does. Well, the other person’s device should also be on and have a signal for it to work...which, now that I think about it, might not be the case. Then again, he does usually answer right away whenever I call him," I replied wryly.

"We better have not come all the way up here for nothing," He frowned in response.

"Well, it’s not impossible that we might have done just that...but let’s be optimistic about it," I grinned sheepishly.

It was the next day, the 12th of Martius, 2020. Yesterday sure felt like it lasted for ages, so much happened...the attack on Kaygee Town, our entry into the Haven, fighting some of the Demi-Human leaders, the feast, banging Prysm...yeah, talk about eventful.

I woke up around 11 AM today, feeling pretty well rested. I then got to work producing metal, poison and threads for the Demi-Humans, as they’d requested, which took about an hour, and well over half my Mana.

It was pretty tiring. Izzy and Argent were helping some of the younger Demi-Humans train, Prysm and I would take over tomorrow, we were planning on alternating days in pairs.

With the quantity of metal, poison and threads that I produced, the Demi-Humans decided that me providing them with those materials every other day would be sufficient instead of doing so every single day for the next month.

We can stay here until the 13th of Aprilis, next month, so a little over five weeks. And while we’re down here, I’d prefer not to remain totally clueless about what’s happening on the surface, so that we’re prepared when the time comes for us to leave this place.

So I decided to contact Gior and get updates on the situation. Unfortunately, so deep underground, there’s absolutely no signal down in the Haven. Therefore, I decided to go up closer towards the entrance leading down to the cavern to try and get a signal.

Iefyr tagged along with me, to make sure I don’t leak any info about the Demi-Humans. Which is perfectly understandable, I’d do the same if I were in their shoes.

"Oh, nice, I got a signal! It’s just one bar though, so let’s go a bit further up," I remarked, as I dialled Gior’s number.

Good, it’s ringing.

"We’re almost to the entrance anyway," Sighed Iefyr in exasperation.

I do feel a bit bad for him, he’ll probably be made to come with me every time I do this, which I plan on doing every three or four days at the very least. After all, he is the one that brought us down here in the first place.

"Hello?" I remarked, as the call got picked up.

"Larrk? Hey, what’s up?" Responded Gior...the audio is decent enough, I was afraid it might be too unclear.

"Nothing much, really. Just wanted to let you know that the four of us, me, my brother, Prysm and Izzy are gonna be in hiding and laying low for a few weeks. I’m afraid I can’t get into specifics...but I’d like you to keep me updated on the situation with the True Nobility thing," I replied, getting straight to the point.

"Hm, I understand. Laying low is a good move, things are pretty dire right now. Four whole villages have been completely massacred, and the rest have been heavily damaged and sustained a lot of casualties as well. Pufph Town and Blont Town have also been wiped out.

The Adventurers in the rest of the towns were able to fend off the attacks from the True Nobility bastards, but to varying extents, they’ve all been crippled. Phyurio and I are currently hiding out in Cusch Town, which wasn’t too badly damaged but did still sustain a number of casualties," He informed me grimly.

"I see...sounds like the damage they did is worse than I thought. I’m guessing the capital is untouched, right?" I surmised with a sigh.

"Actually, no...the current Knight Order has been actively making an effort to better their treatment of Commoners, and it’s made a huge difference. That goes against what the true True Nobility are after, so some of the families of the current members of the Knights were attacked," He replied grimly.

Oh?

"You know...that might not be all bad. If Nobles and Commoners can see the True Nobility lunatics as a common enemy, that could work out pretty well in the long run...of course, that won’t apply if the True Nobility end up coming out on top in this conflict," I surmised with a frown.

"You could be right. The remaining five towns are cooperating with the Knights, there’s a Captain in each town, and the handful of survivors from the two towns that were destroyed have been evacuated to the remaining towns. I believe the Knight Commander is stationed in the capital, they’re currently searching for the True Nobility, trying to find out where the bastards are hiding, but no luck so far," He sighed in response.

"If I had to guess, I’d say they’re probably in the capital. Hard to imagine a large group of Nobles hiding out in a cave or something, not after spending their lives in lavish luxury," I pointed out objectively.

"Hm, that’s a good point. I’ll see if I can start a rumor about that and hope it reaches the Knights...that said, as much as I hate to admit it, their presences here in the towns is much needed in this situation. The problem is that a lot of them are young and inexperienced, which isn’t surprising considering how many Knights were kicked out of the Order, some of whom were quite powerful too," He informed me.

"I’m willing to bet that a lot of them are now a part of the True Nobility. There could also be spies in the Knight Order working for the True Nobility," I suggested objectively.

"Yeah, that’s a very real possibility."

"Has anything else happened?" I asked him. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"Nothing so far, but I doubt the True Nobility will lay low for long. They’re probably already planning their next attack," He replied warily.

"That probably is the case, yeah. Alright, I gotta go now...I’ll call you again in a few days, try not to die before then," I remarked with a wry smile.

"Yeah, that’s the plan."
