Point-of-View: Argent Stryker

"A teleportation trap that teleports whoever steps on it to the Dead Zone? You better not be lying," I remarked with a frown.

"I-I swear it’s the truth, please don’t kill me!" 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

"I’m not going to-...whatever, never mind. I suppose you don’t seem like you’re lying about this," I replied as turned my gaze to the area outside the border.

About half an hour had passed since Larrk and Izzy disappeared, and Prysm and I kinda panicked for a bit. After we calmed ourselves down, reminding each other of how powerful the two of them are, we knocked out all the guards except one, the one who looked the most likely to talk. And we were spot on with our judgement in that regard.

"What should we do? We could trigger the trap ourselves, maybe that’ll take us to where they are," Suggested Prysm, before adding as she handed me back my phone, "It’s not even ringing, Larrk’s phone is either still in his Pocket Dimension or he doesn’t have a signal where he is."

"Hm, could be either or both. And no, let’s not do that, trigger the trap ourselves, I mean. Larrk and Izzy are powerful, so wherever they are, they’re probably fine. Let’s go lay low somewhere and wait for Larrk to contact us," I decided after mulling it over.

"Yeah, I guess that’s probably for the best. I just can’t help but be worried though, it’s-...," She began, before trailing off as the sound of a phone ringing rang out.

"Any idea who’s calling?" I asked the man we were interrogating.

"P-probably someone from one of the other Knight squads, w-we weren’t expecting a call, so I don’t know for sure," He replied nervously.

"Okay, then," I responded as I walked over towards the phone, the cordless landline kind, picking it up and walking over as I said to the man, "Find out what this is about, but don’t give anything away about what happened here, got it?"

"Y-yeah, okay..."

"Here goes, then," I muttered, answering the call and putting it on speaker before holding it out towards him.

"Uh, hello?" He spoke into the microphone.

"Finally, someone picked up! Is this the east border guard unit?"

"Y-yes, it is, I’m Major Ligue Bayzbal. Is there something the matter?" He responded, flinching as he met my gaze.

"The True Nobility has launched an attack on the capital, and we’ve just received word that the remaining towns are under attack as well! Be careful out there...it’s likely that they are targeting the guard outposts on the borders as well, we haven’t been able to contact any of the other outposts. Do not let them-...!"

Huh? The call suddenly cut off, and I heard a loud crash right before it hung up.

"D-damn it, no...," Whimpered the guard in shock.

"Uh, Argent? Someone just appeared out of nowhere," Prym called out, pointing in a direction inside the border.

I jogged over to the wall she was peering over and followed the direction she was pointing at, grimacing as I spotted the figure she was referring to.

"Just one person, huh? Alright, let me handle this. You stay up here and back me up if I need it," I instructed her, before leaping off the top of the border wall as she nodded affirmatively, activating the Jet Soles Spell to slow my descent as I plummeted down.

"Hm? And just who the hell are you? You’re clearly not a Knight," The man greeted me as I landed in front of him, narrowing his eyes at me, "Wait, that hair, are you the one who attacked the capital with that Monster girl?"

Woah, holy-...he’s covered in burn scars, with a bald head and blue eyes.

"Does it really matter who I am?"

"No, I suppose not. You are about to die, after all. Allow me to bestow you the honor of knowing exactly who’s about to kill you. I am Tayn Regerelle, of the True Nobil-...!"

"Wait, Tayn Regerelle? I know that name...oh, right! You’re the one who tried to kill my brother and ended up getting burned, literally! Damn, he really did a number on you, didn’t he? Those are some seriously nasty scars you’ve got there," I smirked in response.

"Huh?" He responded in an icy tone, his face blank before a look of immense rage and hatred twisted his expression, "Y-you...you’re that little shit’s brother!? I-I’ll...I’ll fucking kill you!"

As he suddenly turned invisible, I quickly activated Area Detect at a mid-range level, springing back as I sensed him slashing a dagger towards my throat, before quickly raising a wall of earth as a fireball came shooting towards me.

The flames collided with my defensive wall, which remained intact but began glowing slightly red from the heat of the flames, the air in front of it shimmering violently. Strange, this heat seems almost unnaturally intense, there’s something off about it...

"Hey, did you know that you actually encountered my brother again pretty recently? That woman, what was her name...Lyra something or other? She attacked Kaygee Town with a bunch of Monsters, and then you showed up to save her after she was defeated, right? Well, my brother was the one who defeated her...you even spoke to him then, did you realize you were talking to the person who charcoaled you?" I taunted him, as I broke my earth wall apart and sent the fiery chunks of dirt shooting out towards him, set ablaze by his flames.

"Wh-what!?" He snapped furiously, before unleashing an intense shockwave of flames, blowing away my projectiles as I quickly formed another earth wall to protect myself.

Seriously, what’s the deal with his firepower? It’s not as strong as blue flames, of course, but it feels far too intense to be normal. What’s going on here?

"Yeah, that’s right...you were just meters away from the target of your vengeance, and you didn’t even know it was him. Talk about pathetic," I laughed condescendingly.

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt from Larrk, it’s that taunting your opponents can make for an easy victory.

"I...I’ll turn you to fucking ash, and present your charred head to your brother before I kill him too! You’re fucking dead!" He snarled viciously, turning visible again before chanting venomously, "Time to die...Contract: Ifrit!"

Ah, that explains the firepower. Also, I might be in a bit of trouble here...
