Chapter 248: Chapter 248 - Obsidian Civil War(Part 13)

Point-of-View: Phyurio Slymaster Bhaytes

———————————————————————————

"I’ll tear you apart, you fucking Commoner, you’re dead!" Snapped my opponent, zipping in towards me rapidly as he tranformed.

His Contract is with the Monster known as Strix, huh? If I’m not mistaken, that’s a Demonic Grade owl-like Monster. He’s definitely a lot faster that he was before, he’s already starting to close in on me, his head resembling that of an owl and his arms have tranformed into wings, with brown and white feathers all over his body.

I blasted out flames at him before springing back as he unleashed a gust of wind from his wings in response and flew through the flames with a vicious snarl, a few of his feathers getting singed as he barreled in towards me murderously.

He’s seriously fast, yes...but in his rage, his movements have lost a fair bit of efficency.

As he closed in on me, he drove his right foot towards my stomach, his toes having morphed into sharp talons. I grimaced as I tilted my body across and the talons gashed across my right side, before I gritted my teeth and tightened my grip on my Soul Weapon with my left hand, swinging it up rapidly as I grabbed his ankle with my right hand.

He began to try and fly away in alarm, managing to wrench his foot free of my grasp, but it was too late. He let out a sharp yell of pain as my Crowbar slammed onto his left shoulder with a loud crunch, shattering the bone upon impact, his left wing slumping down as he stumbled back.

I then shot towards him and swung my Soul Weapon at his right knee before he could recover, eliciting another agonized cry from pain as I shattered his knee with a powerful strike, causing him to collapse down onto one knee before I slammed my knee onto his chin with immense force, knocking him back and severely dazing him as he fell onto his back, letting out a groan as I stomped down on his chest.

"Im...impossible. Th-this can’t be. I-I’m using a Contract, s-so how could a lowly Commoner get the better of me? This can’t be real...," He muttered, a concussed look in his eyes as he feebly tried to get back up, the effects of his Contract wearing off.

"Oh, I assure you, this is very much real, a lowly Commoner has indeed gotten the better of you. And now, a lowly Commoner is about to kill you," I remarked icily, raising my Crowbar up high, intending to bring it straight down onto his forehead.

"N-no, s-stop, I...I refuse to die at y-your hands!" He cried weakly, immense murderous intent emanating from him, before my eyes widened as I heard something rapidly slicing through the air towards me from behind.

As I turned back, I saw his Soul Weapon flying in towards me, spinning with immense speed...shit, I can’t block or dodge it in time, this is b-...suddenly, a rapid blur came flying down from above towards his Soul Weapon, before I spotted the downward swing of a familiar blade, striking the side of my opponent’s Soul Weapon and knocking it down with a loud clang.

"Come on, man, you need to be more careful. You would’ve lost your head just now if I hadn’t jumped in," He sighed in exasperation, planting his foot on top of the Soul Weapon to keep it pinned down.

"Sorry, guess I got careless. Thanks for the assist, Gior, that was way too close," I grinned sheepishly.

"D-damn it...," Muttered my opponent, as he tried to push my foot off his chest.

"Come on, finish him off already," Gior prompted me.

"Yeah, yeah, I was just about to," I replied, as I glanced back at the Noble beneath my boot and swung my Crowbar down at him with immense force.

"N-no, wait-...!" He began in despair, before I slammed my Soul Weapon straight onto his forehead, a deafening crunch echoing out as I caved in his skull, blood gushing out and splattering across the ground, his body going limp as blood pooled around his head.

I gave my Crowbar a sharp tug to wrench it out of his smashed head, before swinging it across to get the blood off of it.

"So, what’s the situation looking like?" I asked Gior, as I took my foot off the fresh corpse.

"A fairly large number of the townspeople are dead, but it looks like most of the True Nobility who attacked this place have been dealt with, so the civilian casualties shouldn’t increase too much. Minus a few exceptions, most of them are weak and untrained. They managed to inflict a lot of damage to the town, but it shouldn’t be long before they’re all dead. I hope things in the other towns are going similarly, or even better, than the way the battle has played out here," He replied with a grimace.

"Don’t forget the capital...even if all the towns manage to fend off these bastards, if the capital falls and the True Nobility take over the ruling of the nation, we’ll be screwed," I pointed out.

"Yeah, I’m not too thrilled about having to root for Nobles in the capital, but I suppose they are the lesser of the two evils. Alright, let’s split up and comb through the town. We need to eliminate any remaining members of the True Nobility that may still be in town. Until we’ve eliminated all of them beyond a shadow of a doubt, don’t let your guard down."

"Don’t worry, I won’t. I almost died just now, so I’m going to be extra alert," I replied with a thumbs up.
