Chapter 268: Chapter 268 - Return to the Haven(Part 2)

"That does sound amazing, finally getting to live freely on the surface again, that was something most, if not all, of us had all but given up on a long time ago...but that said, we can’t have our people fight in a battle like this, I’m sorry," Said Oberr apologetically.

"No worries, I knew it was a long shot to begin with. I wasn’t expecting an army or anything, though if we could at least get a few volunteers to help us out, that’d be great...of course, if that’s too much to ask, I’ll drop it," I replied with a wry smile.

"I don’t see a problem with that. If there’s anyone down here who’s willing to help you guys out, I see no reason to stop them from doing so...and on that note, you can count me in, I’ll fight alongside you," Grinned Sinia with a thumbs up, before adding, "If this works out, our people will finally be able to live out of hiding again, I’m willing to risk my life to accomplish that."

"Woah, for real? We’d definitely love to have you on board," I nodded gratefully.

"Yeah, that’d help out a lot," Added Prysm in agreement.

"Are you sure about this?" Chimed in Oberr in surprise.

"Mhm, I am. Plus, we owe Larrk and the others a debt, this is a great chance to repay that debt...that on top of freedom for all of us in the Haven is more than reason enough as far as I’m concerned, so yeah, I’m more than happy to do this," She replied without hesitation.

"You can count me in too! This sounds like it could be fun...and I’ve been training hard ever since you guys left, this’ll be a good opportunity to see if my training has paid off. Oh, and the freedom stuff that Sinia mentioned too, I guess," Spoke up Howll with a grin.

"I’ll join you as well...I’ve lived down here for centuries now, I’ve spent all my life in hiding. I think it’s time for a change, and I doubt we’ll get a better opportunity than this. You’ve given us this opportunity, it would be foolish of us to pass it up," Smiled Ulfar, tapping his fist against the middle of his chest.

"I shall volunteer too, we may come to regret it someday if we stay out of it and your plan fails when it could have succeeded had we helped. So, I’ll fight by your side," Added Arofri with a curt nod.

"Wow, uh...I don’t know what to say, this is going a lot better than I thought it would. Thank you, all of you, I really appreciate it," I bowed my head in gratitude.

"Come on, there’s no need for that. Like I said, we owe you a debt, it’s only natural that we’d help you after all you and your friends did for us. When do you plan on launching your attack?" Sinia asked me.

"We haven’t set an exact date yet, but soon...probably within this week," I informed her.

"Yeah, we’re not the only ones who are planning to take over the nation we’re targeting, so the sooner the better," Nodded Prysm in response.

"Hm, alright, then, in that case...how about this? Come back here around this time tomorrow. We’ll inform everyone else in the Haven about this, and see if anyone else would be willing to volunteer, so you’ll know exactly how many people you’ll have fighting alongside you by tomorrow," Suggested Sinia with a smile.

"That’d be great, I couldn’t ask for anything more. I have no intention of forcing anyone in the Haven to fight in this battle if they want to, this is purely a request, so only those who are willing to fight, with no pressure on them to make that decision, should volunteer."

"Your respect towards us in that regard is another major reason why I’m not hesitating to help you with this. You could’ve easily said something like ’if you help us fight, we’ll let you live in the nation we establish’, which wouldn’t have been unfair, but you’re offering us a place even if we don’t help with the fight. It wouldn’t be fair of us to let you do all the fighting and then benefit from that when we did nothing to help," Pointed out Arofri.

"I mean, saying that we’ll only let you live there if you fight would be no different that forcing you to fight...I didn’t want to do that. That’s why I was fully prepared to go through with this even if you guys decided not to help, so I’m incredibly grateful for this," I replied with a smile.

"Don’t mention it, we’re happy to help."

"Plus, based on everything you’ve told us, about how the nation your targeting has been in civil war for years and the fact that you’ve got a Demon on your side, it seems like your plan has a very good chance of succeeding. If the odds has been more heavily stacked against you, we might have been more hesitant to lend you our aid, but with the situation as it is, we’ll simply be improving odds that are already in your favor," Grinned Howll with a thumbs up.

"That doesn’t make me any less grateful. And I’ll do everything I can to come up with a plan that ensures that we suffer no casualties," I stated with a sense of determination.

"Well, that’d be great, but you shouldn’t feel responsible if anything goes wrong. When it comes to wars and battle, they’re unpredictable by nature, things very rarely go exactly according to plan," Pointed out Ulfar objectively.

"Yeah, I’m well aware of that...but even so, that’s no reason to not take every possible precaution and contingency to minimize things going wrong."
