Chapter 367: Chapter 367 - Vampire Downtime(Part 4)

"Have you completed it yet?" I inquired, as I stepped into the room.

"O-oh, uh, Lord Jagger...p-please forgive us, but it’ll take a bit longer. W-we are close though, I-I swear!"

"Y-yes, we’ve mostly completed it b-but it’s a bit unstable still, w-we just need some time to stabilize the barrier and it’ll be ready!"

"I see...give me a more precise time frame. Exactly how long will it take?" I responded as I stared at them.

"W-well, uh, it’s hard to say...but, maybe around a week, at most? W-we probably will be able to complete it a day or two before then, b-but in the worst case scenario, it could take a week."

Hm, okay, that’s not too bad.

"Very well...be sure to complete it by then. Lord Dracula is growing impatient, so-...," I began.

"Oh, that simply won’t do. No, that won’t do at all...we’ve been so generous as to give them as much time as we already have, and we still have to wait another week? You two better not be delaying it on purpose to buy yourselves time...don’t think you’re safe just because we’ve given you an important task. You’re easily expendable and replaceable, you’d do well not to forget that," Came a familiar voice from behind me, as I let out a quiet sigh and glanced back.

"W-we aren’t delaying it or anything like that, I-I swear, Lady Caera!"

"Y-yes, we would n-never dream of deceiving you like that! I swear on m-my life that it’s the truth!"

Caera, one of the other Elder Vampires...she had medium-length silver hair that covered her right eye, she had red eyes and pale skin like the rest of us, and she wore black lipstick.

I don’t like dealing with her...her mouth is always twisted in a permanent smile, but it doesn’t reach her eyes. She’s kinda creepy, if I’m being honest.

Also, she’s wrong, these two humans aren’t easily replaceable...they’re the foremost experts in Magic Item creation in the Light Continent, there isn’t anyone else on their level. If we kill them, it’ll be much more difficult for us to have complex Magic Items created for us.

"For you sakes, that better be true...now, then, you have two days to finish this, or else-...," She began with that creepy smile, before trailing off as I grabbed her arm and dragged her out of the room, shutting the door.

"Enough. Lord Dracula assigned me to oversee this, do not interfere. Maintaining their fear of us is important, but if we overdo it, it’ll be counterproductive. We don’t want them so gripped by fear that they’re unable to focus on their task," I remarked with a sigh.

"Hm, I see, you might have a point about that, I shall keep that in mind. Still, that wasn’t very nice, Jagger...interrupting me like that puts my authority into question. Please don’t do that again," She smiled as she narrowed her eyes slightly, sending chills down my spine.

I can’t deal with her, even Jevera is easier to handle than she is.

"I’ll keep that in mind," I nodded before walking away, grimacing and glancing back as she followed after me, "What is it?"

"Oh, nothing...I was just feeling a bit bored," She replied with a shrug, her smile never fading for even a second.

Is her face actually stuck like that or something? I can’t remember ever seeing her with a different expression.

"In that case, go find one of the others, I’m busy," I sighed in response.

"I would, but Lord Dracula and the other guys are playing a human card game, and Jevera and Lavinia are in the midst of what sounded like quite the passionate affair. I didn’t want to interrupt, so I decided to come find you instead."

Just my luck, there are seven of us and she decided to pick me to bother. How do I get rid of her without making her feel insulted? Despite her smile, she’s someone who never lets go of even the smallest grudge...

"I don’t plan on doing anything interesting or entertaining, so if you were looking to alleviate your boredom, you came to the wrong person," I remarked, hoping that would work.

"Oh, that’s fine. You’re not all that boring," She responded with a smile.

"...I never said I was boring."

"Hm? Didn’t you? I suppose I must have misheard you."

"Why don’t you go kill a few low quality livestock? You like doing that, don’t you?" I suggested, as she continued following me.

"I already did that today, I’ve had my fill. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were trying to get rid of me, Jagger," She replied as her smile morphed into a smirk, before I stiffened slightly as she glanced at me from either direction, having split herself in two.

Her Unique Ability, Blood Clones...both her and her clone are each holding onto one of my arms, is she trying to make sure I don’t try to slip away?

"Er, no, that isn’t what I’m doing...I just thought I’d suggest some alternate options for you to entertain yourself with, that’s all."

"Aw, how kind of you," She chuckled, before adding in unison with her clone, "But you don’t need to worry about that...I’ll make do with you."

Make do, huh? I don’t think I’m going to be able to get out of this...

"Alright, fine...what do you want to do?" I relented with a quiet sigh.

"I don’t have anything in particular in mind, so I’ll just follow your lead."

"Like I said earlier, I wasn’t really planning on doing anything. Maybe just sip on some blood and then rest in my room, that’s all."

"Sounds good, I’ll join you."

Yeah...I’m not getting out of this, am I?
