Man, this is so nerve-wracking...clone or not, the idea of fighting an Elder Vampire is more than a little terrifying, I’m not sure I can do this.
It hasn’t been long since I arrived in Mist City, and I’ve already fought off a large number of Lesser Vampires and Vampires.
The Lesser Vampires weren’t too hard to deal with, their low intelligence made their attacks simple and straightforward, but the Vampires were a fair bit tougher.
I’m managed to conserve about three quarters of my Mana, and I didn’t sustain any particularly serious injuries, but I have burned through a fair bit of my stamina.
I shouldn’t be far from the area where one of the clones is currently attacking, I’ll be there any minute now...I’m not at a hundred percent, so I doubt my odds are particularly great. Therefore, I should try to avoid a direct battle, I won’t accomplish anything if I get killed.
And I’m not willing to sacrifice myself just to take down a clone that can easily be replaced...I do have a Healing Magic Item on me, but it isn’t as effective as Healing Spells would be. If I sustain any serious injuries, this Magic Item isn’t strong enough to heal me.
What should I do? I need a plan, and quickly...the longer I take before making a move, the more people will die at the hands of the Elder Vampire clone I’m supposed to deal with.
Wait...hm, that could work. Yeah, I think I should be able to pull that off...at the very least, it’s worth a shot. Alright, let’s do this...
"Initiate Skill: Life Detection," I chanted, before closing my eyes and focusing as I activated my sensory Skill, scanning the area around me.
There, I think I’ve found her...about four hundred meters to the west, I can sense a strong presence. There are other life signatures around it, but they’re disappearing fast, one by one...some of our forces must be fighting the clone, but they’re getting wiped out.
I’m sorry...even if I hurry, I don’t think I’ll be able to make it in time to save you. And even if I do, I won’t be able to make much of a difference if I just blindly jump into the fray, I’m not going to stand a chance if I throw away the element of surprise.
But rest assured, even if I fail to save you, I’ll do everything I can to ensure that your sacrifices won’t be in vain. I’ll just have to hope that my plan works. Because if it doesn’t, I’m probably as good as dead.
I then made my way over in the direction the life signature was in, feeling more and more tense and on edge with every passing second, as I drew closer and closer to the presence.
I then snuck into an alley as I got close, the presence just on the other side of the alley...I grimaced as I crept through the narrow path, as the last life signature besides the clones disappeared.
I came to a quiet stop at the end of the alley and peered out, narrowing my eyes...yeah, looks like I was right, what I was sensing really is one of the clones.
And there were about a dozen corpses stewn about the ground around her, laying in puddles of their own blood.
"Okay, here goes...Initiate Skill: Tranformation," I chanted under my breath...before transforming and taking on the appearance of a Lesser Vampire.
Based on what we know, Elder Vampires can sense the presence of the Vampires they’ve each created, but that doesn’t apply to the Lesser Vampires. While they can command them, they can’t sense them.
And luck just might be on my side...this alley is currently upwind from the Vampire clone’s position, so my scent shouldn’t give me away either.
I then walked out the alley, letting out deep groans and growls, doing my best to put on a performance to pass myself off as a Lesser Vampire.
"Hm? Oh, it’s just a Lesser. I’ve already cleared this area, so wander off somewhere else," She remarked with a smile as she glanced back at me, before turning around and starting to walk away.
This is my chance!
"Manifest Soul Weapon: Crowbar...and Initiate Skill: Speed Boost x10," I swiftly chanted inaudibly, before I shot towards her as fast as I could.
As I closed in on her from behind, she stopped and stiffened for an instant before quickly turning around, her claws extending out as she met my gaze.
I then swung my crowbar forward with all my strength, channeling all the momentum from my speed boost into the swing before the heel of my weapon slammed onto the middle of her torso with a loud crunch, as she simultaneously whipped her claws across at my head.
I quickly sprang back as fast as I could, letting out a stifled cry as the tip of one of her claws sliced through my left eye and grazed the top of the bridge of my nose, blood streaming down my face from my left eye as an agonizing pain throbbed out.
I activated the Healing Magic Item, the pain fading and the bleeding stopping, but it didn’t restore my eye...hopefully, a Healing Spell will be able to grow it back later. All things considered, it could’ve been a lot worse though, so I’ll take this...
"Guess it was too much to hope for to pull this off unscathed...but at least I did pull it off," I remarked with a grimacing smile, as the clone erupted into a mass of blood and splattered across the ground...
