Chapter 312: Chapter 312: The First to Love Is the First to Let Go, the Last to Love Never Gives Up

’What an absolute bastard!’

’She was just trying to have a nice day out shopping, and she had to run into him. Then he snatched Aaron Wyatt and dragged her here.’

’She really wanted to crack open his head to see what the hell he was thinking!’

Annabelle Linton started walking back the way she came, intent on leaving.

With Aaron Wyatt missing, her only option was to find someone to look for him.

A few maids froze for a moment, then quickly blocked her path. "It’s so late, Miss Linton. Where are you going?"

Annabelle Linton walked around them and continued on, not even giving them a glance as she coldly uttered two words: "Going home."

One of the maids hesitated for a moment and said, "But you can’t leave."

Annabelle Linton stopped in her tracks. She turned to look at the maid, her face devoid of expression as she asked, "Reason?"

"It was the master’s order."

Hearing this, Annabelle Linton sneered and turned back around to continue walking.

’Hilarious. Who did he think he was, telling her she couldn’t leave? She was damn well leaving today!’

The maids exchanged a look. One of them bit her lip and said, "The master said it would be best if you didn’t leave. If you do, you’ll never see him again."

They didn’t know who "he" was, either. In any case, that’s what the master had said.

Annabelle Linton whipped around, her sharp gaze fixed on them. "What did you just say?!"

The maids, frightened by Annabelle Linton’s intensity, trembled and took two steps back. "Miss Linton... That’s what the master ordered. We’re just passing on the message..."

Annabelle Linton took a deep breath, suppressing her fury as she called Leona Grant.

But the call was hung up the moment it connected. This happened four or five times in a row, and she never once got through.

Annabelle Linton was so angry she almost smashed her phone, but she forced herself to calm down when she remembered she would still need it.

She looked at the maids, her face expressionless, and said through gritted teeth, "Lead the way."

’So if I leave, I’ll never see Aaron Wyatt again? Is that it?’

’Fine. I’ll compromise. I won’t leave. Happy now?’

Annabelle Linton was led to a room, where she surveyed the layout.

It was the same room she had lived in during her past life.

But after living there for a few months, she had been thrown out by Leona Grant. The last time she was here, she had been locked in the basement before leaving, full of hatred.

Looking at it all now, that deep sense of powerlessness flared up inside her again.

In the end, she sighed, went into the bathroom, and took a shower, planning to go to sleep.

Having lived two lives had taught Annabelle Linton one thing: no matter the situation, she absolutely could not lose her composure.

’There’s nothing I can do right now, is there? The only thing to do is rest and save my energy.’

After Annabelle Linton came out of the shower, she felt unusually drowsy. Eventually, she was so sleepy she couldn’t even keep her eyes open, and she slowly drifted into a deep sleep.

In truth, it wasn’t that she was exhausted. Someone had tampered with the body wash she used, lacing it with a sleeping agent.

「2:00 AM.」

Leona Grant appeared at her bedside, dressed in a white shirt.

Annabelle Linton was quiet when she slept. Aside from the deep crease between her brows, her face was mostly expressionless.

’Not at peace even in her sleep. Is she still thinking about Aaron Wyatt?’

Leona Grant’s throat bobbed as he swallowed back his bitterness.

’If he could, he wouldn’t want to use another man to threaten her into staying by his side, even for a short while.’

He knew this would only make her despise him more.

’He understood the logic, but did he have a choice?’

’If he could see even the slightest wavering, the smallest crack in Annabelle Linton’s resolve, he would have tried his best.’

’But there was absolutely nothing.’

Her disgust for him was absolute. She was so annoyed by him that even the sight of him was enough to ruin her mood.

’So where was he supposed to start?’

He had tried to hypnotize himself over and over, telling himself not to look at her, not to pay attention to her. But the month after their divorce had nearly killed him.

’This feeling of your heart not being your own... it’s true torture.’

The one who loved first is the first to fall out of love, while the one who fell in love later refuses to give up. She said it took her twenty years to take her heart back.

’Does that mean... he has to spend twenty years to win her over, too?’
