Pang Hu, who had been about to turn and leave, suddenly knitted his brow. He looked at Fang Chenyi and said, clearly displeased:

"What’s this, young man? Did you call for backup?"

Pang Hu asked this because the commotion outside didn’t sound like just a single car arriving. On top of that, his company hadn’t started shooting a new film recently, so the few vehicles they owned were all accounted for.

As for the possibility of it being clients coming to discuss business, he hadn’t received any notice of such a meeting.

Fang Chenyi didn’t even have to think. Just from Pang Hu’s tone, he could already guess that Wan Li’s people must have arrived.

He glanced outside and said, a little uncertainly:

"I suppose so."

’You either called for help or you didn’t. What’s this "I suppose so" nonsense! But it’s useless anyway. Never mind that guy Mu Linsen isn’t even with my company. With my connections, on my own turf here in Qinhuang Island, am I supposed to be afraid of some wet-behind-the-ears kid?’

With this in mind, Pang Hu shook his head in disdain. He decided not to leave, instead beckoning to a nearby staff member. The employee hurried over with a chair and placed it in front of Pang Hu. Seeing this, Pang Hu sat down with a smirk, saying nonchalantly:

"Heh, I, Pang Hu, am curious to see who you’ve called. Don’t say I didn’t warn you, kid. On my turf here in Qinhuang Island, there are very few people I need to give any face to."

As he spoke, the sharp CLACK CLACK CLACK of leather shoes echoed from outside. A moment later, a group of a dozen or so people walked in an orderly fashion toward the entrance.

Fang Chenyi didn’t recognize any of the newcomers, but judging by their well-dressed, professional demeanor, he figured they must be the lawyers Wan Li had arranged.

As Fang Chenyi was thinking this, his future father-in-law beside him tugged on his shirt and asked in a low voice:

"Chenyi, are all these people with you?"

But before Fang Chenyi could answer, Pang Hu, who had been sitting in front of him, shot to his feet as if his chair was full of needles.

After leaping up, he ignored the astonished stares of those around him and rushed toward the newly arrived group with an agility that was completely at odds with his frame.

On the way, he vigorously wiped one of his large, pudgy hands on his clothes, his face filled with a broad smile of shock and delight. He stopped in front of the group’s leader, bowing deeply and speaking in a subservient tone:

"Oh my! You... you’re Wan Li from Baida Film and Television? President Wan? What an honor to have you here! I’m so sorry for not giving you a proper welcome, truly! If you’d just had someone call ahead, I, Pang Hu, would have arranged a proper reception for you!"

Others, like Fang Chenyi and his companions, might not recognize Wan Li. But as an industry insider, how could Pang Hu not know the famous general manager of Baida Film and Television, especially since it was the major studio geographically closest to his own? Of course, he recognized Wan Li, but Wan Li didn’t recognize him.

Pang Hu’s mind was now filled with questions. ’Why would the famous President Wan suddenly come here?’ he wondered. ’Could it be that President Wan was impressed by my last web drama? Is he here to discuss a collaboration?’

Of course, the thought that Wan Li might be connected to Fang Chenyi never even crossed his mind. ’After all,’ he thought, ’if the kid really knew a VIP like Wan Li, would he have been scammed over his dream of becoming a star?’

’That would be a complete joke. For a behemoth like Baida Film and Television, making a little-known actor famous would be as easy as lifting a finger.’

Fang Chenyi, who hadn’t moved from his spot, heard Pang Hu’s words and realized that Wan Li had come in person. He shook his head, exasperated. ’What a fuss over such a small matter.’

’Still, he could understand,’ he thought. ’After all, no matter how trivial the issue, it was the first task he, the chairman, had assigned.’

Looking at the fawning Pang Hu approaching him, Wan Li simply gave a polite nod before brushing right past him and striding quickly toward Fang Chenyi.

Fang Chenyi didn’t recognize Wan Li, but that didn’t mean Wan Li failed to recognize his new boss.

As he watched Wan Li brush past him, the ingratiating smile still on his face, Pang Hu was left completely dumbfounded.

’What was going on?’

The next moment, his question was answered.

He watched as Wan Li, still some distance away, smiled and extended a hand. He approached with his body slightly bowed, stopping before the very young man Pang Hu had just finished berating.

"Chairman, I’m so sorry. We’re late."

He was late, and that was that; Wan Li didn’t offer any excuses.

This caused Fang Chenyi to nod with inner satisfaction. ’This small detail alone spoke volumes about the man’s character,’ he thought. ’A team led by someone who doesn’t make excuses or shirk responsibility is a team that has integrity.’

Smiling, Fang Chenyi also extended his hand and shook Wan Li’s. He spoke with a familiar and friendly tone, saying:

"Old Wan, why did you come all this way yourself? It’s a long trip. I appreciate you making the effort."

Those words of appreciation instantly warmed Wan Li’s heart.

Luckily, Wan Li was a sharp man. He knew where they were and understood the purpose of his visit today.

He nodded at Fang Chenyi, then gestured to a middle-aged man wearing glasses beside him and said:

"Chairman, this is the head of Baida Film and Television’s legal department, Du Wenxue. With your permission, I’d like to have him handle this matter."

Hearing President Wan introduce him to the big boss, Du Wenxue quickly took a step forward, bowed to Fang Chenyi, and nodded in greeting. "Chairman."

Fang Chenyi nodded, not as affably as he had been with Wan Li. ’After all, I’m the chairman,’ he thought. ’In a first meeting, I can’t give a subordinate the impression that I’m a total pushover. My authority in the company would be affected later on.’

He handed the stack of documents to Du Wenxue and said:

"Look these over. This is all the information. Also, from what I understand, the guy named Mu Linsen is the one driving the Alpha parked outside. I need to talk with Old Wan about a few things, so I’ll leave this in your hands."

After he finished speaking, he turned to Bai Mengyao and said with a smile:

"Mengyao, this is the head of our company’s legal department. If you could cooperate with him, he’ll get this matter resolved."

As he spoke, he turned his head back to the respectful Wan Li, smiling as he patted him on the shoulder.

"Old Wan, come, let me make an introduction. This is my future father-in-law."

Father Bai hadn’t expected Fang Chenyi to actually introduce him, especially to a man whose bearing clearly marked him as someone in a position of power. His heart swelled with indescribable pride.

Wan Li was also a shrewd man. After hearing Fang Chenyi’s introduction, he immediately laughed heartily, stepped forward, and extended his hand with great respect.

"Haha, you don’t look that much older than me. If you don’t mind, I’ll call you ’Brother’."
