Skill Extraction: Exploring Dungeons
Chapter 948 - 820: Painted into Reality
The muddy road leading up to the hillside village.
A middle-aged farmer wearing a straw hat with his pant legs rolled up, walked in straw shoes towards the village on the hill.
His waist was slightly hunched, seemingly having finished his labor, so his steps were slow as he headed back.
He shouldered a tool resembling a pickaxe.
Upon hearing footsteps behind him, he turned his head.
"Ah, this young man looks unfamiliar, are you heading to the village ahead?"
Although the farmer seemed to be greeting casually, a hint of wariness could be discerned.
Umberto quickened his pace, nodded a few steps behind, and replied.
"Yes, I am a doctor traveling around."
"Oh, so you are a doctor."
The farmer nodded and visibly let down his guard.
It was unclear whether it was because Umberto said he was a doctor or his ordinary appearance made him seem non-threatening.
Umberto’s appearance was ordinary, and he carried a wooden box often used by traveling doctors, exuding a very peaceful aura.
Indeed, it was difficult to think of him as a bad person.
They moved up, and after a few steps arrived at the entrance of the village.
From a distance, Umberto stood on the spot, looking at the largest house on the slope.
That’s the place that needed him.
His intuition told him so.
"Young man, even though you are a doctor, it’s still best to inform the village chief."
The farmer kindly reminded him, pointing to the largest house in the distance.
"That’s the village chief’s home."
"Thank you, I’ll head over now." Umberto nodded, carrying his wooden box behind him, and walked towards the largest house.
The farmer stood at his doorstep watching Umberto’s back.
"Strange, why do I keep hearing hoofbeats? I must be getting old."
Kane and the others followed behind, looking around, noticing differences in this village.
From the outside, it seemed like an ordinary village, with nothing particularly special.
Watching Umberto, the outsider, from time to time the villagers would turn to look at him, while several children surrounded him.
"Uncle, who are you?"
"What brings you to our village?"
"Are you going to stay in our village?"
Their tones carried a hint of innocence as they curiously surrounded the stranger, Umberto.
Encountering a stranger in such a village was indeed a rare occurrence.
Of course, these were the bravest among the children; the timid ones observed from afar.
Umberto just laughed, gently stroked their heads.
Among them were some young children, occasionally glancing towards where Kane and his team were.
"Are they looking at us?" Kane pointed at the children and asked.
At this moment, Lilu observed for a while and said, "The magic power within these children seems fairly active. They might sense something unusual about our location, but they probably can’t see us."
Listening to Lilu’s words, the group nodded.
In other words, these children’s active magic power belonged to a talented phase in their early years, and as they grew up, due to this world’s rules, their internal magic power would submerge and become less active.
"Does this mean these children might be more easily possessed by some spirits?" 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Longbei felt he had thought of a good thing and said.
Though he found nothing strange or surprising about what Kane and the others seemed to feel.
Then he thought carefully.
Kane and the others might have known this for a long time.
Umberto seemed to have mentioned that both the Prophet and he were possessed when they were young.
Thus, they came all the way to the largest house.
Through the low fence, they walked straight in.
In the small courtyard of the house, some vegetables and fruits could be seen.
As if nobody could see them, they began walking around the yard, observing as soon as they entered.
Then Kane saw a little boy at the side of the house, using a piece of charcoal to draw something on a wooden board.
He seemed to feel Kane’s gaze and turned his head, startled.
In a hurry, he dropped the charcoal and wooden board beside him and ran into the room.
"Can this child see us?"
Squinting at the direction the boy left, the magic power within him appeared far more active than the children outside.
And it was growing.
Is this child the reason Umberto was drawn here? Also possessed by a spirit?
Unexpectedly, just by wandering around, they found the target.
Kane looked at the board the boy dropped on the ground, remnants of magic were present on it.
"Come in, please."
Hearing an old lady’s voice near the front door, Kane walked back.
Turns out Umberto had already negotiated with the village chief, who was inviting him into the room.
"Did you find anything?" Kreya asked beside him.
Kane nodded: "I found a child who might be possessed by a spirit; probably someone in this household."
After saying this, they entered the room directly from the side corridor.
No one could see them anyway.
Pushing through the main door, they might accidentally brush against someone.
The house wasn’t complex; entering from the outer corridor and going around a bit led them to the front door.
Even though it’s the village chief’s house, it still seemed rather simple.
But at least it appeared quite clean.
"Harry, don’t run around in the room."
The old lady reprimanded the somewhat flustered little boy in the living room.
The young boy’s eyes kept fixed on Kane and his group, and you could clearly see the panic in his eyes, though he forced himself to look away.
He stiffly nodded in response to his grandmother’s words.
The old lady said to Umberto, "This is my grandson, Harry."
Then the old lady went to the wooden bench in the living room and slowly sat down.
"You are a Spirit Doctor, right? I think I saw you in the village over ten years ago."
Umberto merely nodded at the old lady’s words, "It has been a while, but indeed, I have been here before."
"The legend is true after all, you are here to save my grandson, aren’t you? He seems different from ordinary children."
"My husband also noticed the difference in our grandson. Before he died, he kept saying, don’t worry, someone will come to save the grandson."
"Do you know him? His name was Harrison, and he was the village chief here over ten years ago as well."
The old lady sat on the wooden bench, mumbling on.
Umberto quietly listened beside her.
The boy named Harry had begun to tremble all over, his eyes fixed ahead, unwavering, yet his fear was evident.
While Kane and the others sat beside Harry, their eyes locked onto him.
"Can he see it?"
"He should be able to see it."
"Can he see?"
"Children who can see are the tastiest!"
Though the young boy named Harry was very resolute, tears were already forming in the corner of his eyes.
Umberto watched Kane and his group’s actions like this.
Is this really something a deity would do?
But one can’t deny, Kane and his group indeed follow their whims, doing whatever comes to mind.
He couldn’t help but speak up: "Don’t be scared, they’re just joking with you, they won’t harm you."
"Really!" Harry blurted out, then suddenly realized and asked with surprise: "You can see too?"
After saying that, without another word, he dashed forward and directly leaped into Umberto’s arms, burying his head.
One could still feel his body trembling.
"Hahaha!"
Longbei laughed heartily, slapping his thigh.
"Have we gone too far, scaring the poor child like this?" Kreya asked, stroking her face beside him.
"Hehe."
Clearly, this prank was proposed by Lilulu.
Hearing the laughter behind, Harry turned his head slightly.
Looking at the few strange-looking people who had frightened him earlier, now chuckling.
And the old lady sitting quietly on the wooden bench watched the scene, her grandson’s puzzled actions, silently, perhaps age had brought her experience, she said nothing more.
Umberto then turned his head to her and asked: "How long has he been like this?"
"Since birth, his mother also died from childbirth complications, and my son, his father, was too overwhelmed and went to work in the city, hardly coming back once a year."
Hearing Umberto’s question, the old lady answered slowly yet clearly.
Umberto nodded.
So, he has been possessed since birth.
Now the question remains, what spirit is residing within Harry?
"Has he shown any unusual characteristics compared to others since he was young?"
After asking this question, the old lady fixedly stared at Umberto with her somewhat clouded eyes, unclear about what she was observing.
She then sighed and said: "Since my husband believed in you until the end, I shall too."
"The things this child draws become real."
Umberto appeared rather calm.
But Kane and the others showed interest.
They hadn’t heard Umberto mention such an ability to make art come true spirit yesterday.
Unable to resist their curiosity, they looked at the boy, only six or seven years old.
Seeing their gaze, Harry quickly hopped off Umberto and then buried himself entirely in his grandmother’s arms.
Her rough hand comforted his head and back, soothing him.
"Are we that frightening?" Longbei asked curiously.
Lilulu spun in the air and said: "Anyway, Lilulu is very cute."
At this moment, Umberto stood up, walked beside the old lady, and lifted Harry out of her arms.
He stood him straight on the ground, then took his hands and looked at them carefully.
After observing, he patted Harry’s shoulder: "Don’t be afraid, they won’t harm you."
"Really?"
"Really!" Lilulu laughed cheerfully, appearing beside Harry, waving the magic wand in her hand.
Clearly, Harry’s emotions were stabilizing.
Lilulu was naturally a magnet for children; no young one wouldn’t like her.
At this point, Umberto turned around, nodded to the old lady.
"You are a highly respected elder; the child’s family deserves respect."
The old lady seemed to understand what he was saying, merely nodded.
"The ancestors always warn us, everything comes at a cost, the more extraordinary, the more we should feel reverence."
"What are they talking about?"
Longbei asked curiously.
"This child’s body is healthy and normal; his connection with those spirits probably isn’t deep," Meizike remarked beside him.
At this moment, Kane explained: "This shows the boy’s family always curbed his use of special abilities in drawing."
"It’s a rare and valuable thing, don’t you understand?"
Upon hearing this, Longbei nodded.
Being able to resist greed is indeed precious.
