Chapter 87: Unstoppable Synergy
The party advanced deeper into the Sunken Necropolis.
The heavy, iron-bound doors connecting the catacombs groaned loudly as Dante pushed them open, revealing a sprawling, labyrinthine network of flooded tunnels and crumbling stone bridges.
The necrotic miasma here was incredibly thick, clinging to the floor like a carpet of gray smoke.
"Keep the barrier talismans active," Dante instructed, checking his own system interface to ensure Aura’s passive was still overriding the environmental rot.
"They’re holding," Lila confirmed, the soft blue light of her talisman illuminating the surrounding mist.
They moved efficiently. The first room had established the dynamic. They weren’t fighting like a standard, disorganized pick-up group.
They were operating with a terrifying synergy that completely broke the expected difficulty curve of the SSS-Rank containment zone.
As they crossed a wide stone bridge spanning a river of highly toxic, glowing green sludge, the mist ahead of them violently rippled.
Another pack of Crypt-Stalkers dropped from the ceiling, completely bypassing the bridge’s chokepoint by landing directly in the center of their formation.
There were twenty of them this time.
"Mei! Front!" Dante barked, stepping back to give the Brawler room.
"I am the wall!" Mei yelled cheerfully.
She didn’t try to dodge the massive skeletal hounds. She stepped directly into the path of three lunging bosses, raising the massive cast-iron [God-Slaying Skillet] horizontally in front of her face.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
The three Silver-tier hounds hit the indestructible pan simultaneously.
The [Perfect Block] passive absorbed 100% of the kinetic impact. Mei didn’t budge an inch, but the hounds staggered backward, completely stunned by the unbreakable defense.
"Lila, pin them!" Dante ordered.
Lila didn’t chant. She slammed the butt of her wooden staff into the stone bridge.
[Skill Executed: Gravity Well]
The atmospheric pressure instantly multiplied by a factor of one hundred.
The invisible cylinder of gravity slammed down over the staggered hounds. Their incredible agility and shadow-stealth passives were instantly rendered useless.
The three bosses were flattened against the stone, their black bones cracking loudly under the sheer weight.
Mei didn’t wait for Dante to execute them.
"Batter up!" Mei laughed.
She swung the massive pan down like a heavy sledgehammer, directly onto the skull of the closest pinned hound.
The blunt-force trauma, amplified by her high-level Brawler stats and the gravity holding the target perfectly still, completely shattered the boss’s head.
[-12,000! Critical Hit!]
The hound exploded into blue pixels.
"Pip! Clean up!" Mei yelled, winding up for another swing.
"I’m on it!" the tiny red dragon shrieked, zipping out of her tunic.
As Mei systematically smashed the remaining pinned hounds, Pip flew rapidly through the air, expertly snatching the dropping silver coins and crafting materials before they could even hit the stone bridge, ensuring the party didn’t lose a single fraction of the loot to the toxic sludge river below.
While Mei and Lila locked down the frontline, Dante handled the perimeter.
The remaining seventeen Crypt-Stalkers tried to flank them, utilizing their shadow-stealth to blend into the thick gray miasma.
"Aura," Dante said softly.
The tiny silver fox, hovering faithfully above them, let out a sharp, resonant chime. She intensified the light radiating from her three starlight tails, pushing the ambient shadows completely out of the area.
The stealth passives broke instantly. The hounds were fully exposed.
Dante didn’t even draw a weapon. He relied entirely on his [Chrono-Shift] talent to spam his Zenith-tier mobility skill.
[Skill Executed: Phantom Dash] 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
He vanished.
BOOM.
He materialized next to a flanking hound, the sonic boom stunning it instantly.
He didn’t swing a sword. He just activated another skill he had absorbed earlier.
[Skill Executed: Heavy Kick (Zenith-Tier: Abyssal Stomp)]
He delivered a brutal, downward kick directly onto the paralyzed hound’s spine. The physical impact, backed by his 3,270 Strength stat, completely severed the boss in half.
BOOM.
He teleported to the next hound. Another stun. Another execution.
He was a blur of teleportation and concussive shockwaves. He moved so fast that the remaining hounds couldn’t even track his trajectory.
By the time they tried to lunge at the space he occupied, he was already gone, leaving only the deafening sound of the sonic boom behind.
"This is ridiculous," Lila muttered, maintaining the [Gravity Well] as she watched Dante systematically delete the entire flank in less than five seconds. "We’re not even using healing potions. We’re not taking any damage."
"Because you’re playing exactly how a Vanguard should," Dante called out, materializing next to her, not even out of breath. "You control the field. Mei blocks the physical strikes. I handle the burst."
"And I handle the economics!" Pip cheered, landing on Mei’s shoulder with a heavy, bulging coin pouch in his tiny claws. "We are a highly optimized financial enterprise!"
They cleared the bridge and pushed deeper into the labyrinth.
The dynamic of the party was completely flawless. It was a bizarre, chaotic mix of abilities that somehow meshed into a perfect combat loop.
When they entered a narrow tunnel filled with poison traps, Aura’s [Harbinger’s Grace] passive completely cleansed the environment, allowing them to walk straight through without slowing down.
When a pack of heavily armored, undead knights ambushed them from behind a crumbling wall, Mei stepped in front, using the massive skillet to completely nullify their charging lance strikes.
Lila immediately followed up with [Gravity Well], pinning the knights to the floor, and Dante finished the sequence with a single, perfectly aimed [Abyssal Cleave] that sliced through the entire group, ignoring 50% of their armor.
Pip spent the entire time flying frantically back and forth, complaining about the sheer volume of loot he was being forced to carry.
"My tiny draconian spine is breaking!" Pip whined, dropping another massive pile of Silver-tier armor into Dante’s infinite void ring. "We are generating too much wealth!"
"Stop complaining and pick up those boots," Mei ordered cheerfully, swatting a stray skeleton aside with her pan.
They reached the end of the outer catacombs.
The gray miasma thinned out, revealing massive, towering double doors forged from pale, white bone. The doors were heavily sealed with glowing green necrotic runes.
"We’re making incredible time," Dante noted, checking the system timer. They had cleared the entire first half of the SSS-Rank containment zone in under thirty minutes.
A standard forty-man raid group would have taken days to map the labyrinth and slowly push through the respawning mobs.
"Because we are the ultimate team!" Mei grinned, leaning her pan against the bone doors. "I block, she crushes, you teleport. It’s foolproof."
"Don’t get cocky," Dante warned, stepping up to the doors. "The outer ring was just trash mobs. The inner chambers are where the system stops playing fair."
He raised his iron gauntlet and pushed against the bone doors.
The heavy bone doors swung inward with a loud groan.
The room beyond wasn’t a narrow tunnel or a small, enclosed crypt.
It was a massive, sprawling, ruined courtyard. The ceiling was entirely gone, opening up to a dark cavern sky filled with swirling necrotic storms.
But it wasn’t the architecture that made the party stop dead in their tracks.
The courtyard was completely occupied.
Standing in perfect, highly disciplined military formations across the massive space were exactly one hundred heavily armored knights.
They weren’t standard skeletons. They were Spectral Wraith-Knights. Their armor was forged from translucent, glowing green ghost-iron, and they wielded massive, ethereal greatswords.
[Monster Spawn: Spectral Wraith-Knight]
[Tier: Gold]
[Level: 15-20]
"One hundred Gold-tier mobs," Lila whispered, her grip tightening nervously on her wooden staff. "Dante, my [Gravity Well] has a localized radius. I can’t pin a hundred of them at once. They’ll just swarm us."
"That’s not the worst part," Dante said, his eyes scanning the back of the courtyard.
Standing on a raised dais, overlooking the hundred-man army, was a towering figure. It was easily fifteen feet tall, clad in heavy, spiked black armor, riding a massive, skeletal warhorse that breathed green fire.
[Chamber Boss Spawn: Wraith-Commander]
[Tier: Gold]
[Level: 25]
[HP: 120,000 / 120,000]
The Commander didn’t just have high stats. He possessed a massive, glowing aura that actively buffed the entire army of Wraith-Knights, granting them increased attack speed and localized damage mitigation.
"Okay," Mei said, her cheerful demeanor dropping slightly. She tightened her grip on the frying pan. "That’s a lot of ghosts. Boss, what’s the play? Do you want me to try and block the big guy on the horse while you deal with the army?"
"No," Dante said, drawing the [Dawn-Breaker Blade]. "The Commander’s aura is too strong. If he stays near the army, they’ll overwhelm Lila’s mana pool before we can thin the herd. We have to split them up."
Dante didn’t look worried. He opened his inventory and equipped the [Mantle of the Void-Dragon].
"I’ll pull the Commander," Dante ordered. "I’m going to drag him to the far side of the courtyard. You two handle the hundred Gold-tier mobs."
Lila stared at him in absolute horror. "Excuse me? You want the squishy support and the girl with a pan to fight an entire army by ourselves?!"
"You aren’t a squishy support," Dante corrected her, a cold smile touching his lips. "You’re an Astral Arcanist. And she has an indestructible weapon. Figure it out."
Dante didn’t wait for them to argue.
He activated the cloak’s passive.
[Skill Executed: Echoes of the Void]
Three identical, tangible Shadow Clones stepped out of his dark purple armor.
Dante and the three clones sprinted directly into the courtyard, completely ignoring the hundred Wraith-Knights. They utilized [Phantom Dash], teleporting rapidly across the ruined stone, heading straight for the massive Commander on the skeletal warhorse.
The Commander roared, raising his spiked greatsword, his aggro completely locked onto the four identical, glowing gold targets charging him.
The massive boss kicked his horse, charging away from his army to meet Dante.
Lila and Mei were left entirely alone at the entrance.
The one hundred Gold-tier Wraith-Knights turned their glowing green eyes toward the two girls.
"Well," Mei said, letting out a nervous laugh. She raised her pan, resting it on her shoulder. "This is going to be incredibly messy."
Lila took a deep breath, stepping forward, her blue eyes turning completely cold.
"Pip," Lila said, not looking back. "Get ready to catch a lot of loot."
