Chapter 938 - 937: Turning Around
Jiang Cheng had seen people from a certain planet attempt interstellar travel before, but they were unfortunate and encountered these smugglers. Their ship was forced to stop near some desolate planet by the smugglers' cannon.
After robbing these people clean, their misfortune had only just begun.
By the time the cosmic inspection department found the scene, the smugglers had long since vanished, but the bloody scene they left behind was something even the seasoned veterans of the department had never seen before, and the younger ones retched uncontrollably.
During that disaster, the smugglers brutally slaughtered three hundred and seventy-one people, and not a single corpse was intact.
Although this atrocity was committed by only a portion of the smugglers, not a single one among them had hands unstained by blood; the number of victims they killed just varied.
Absolutely no smuggler had hands free of blood. When a newcomer joined the smuggling organization, killing was a must. If the newcomer hesitated or was unwilling to kill, his comrades would kill him.
In other words, as long as someone belonged to the smuggling organization, he definitely had killed; this fact was beyond doubt.
Therefore, as Jiang Cheng watched those loathsome guys and werewolves battle furiously, and saw them perishing amidst the werewolves' sharp teeth and claws, howling like wolves and ghosts, he felt utterly indifferent.
Nearby the chaotic hub at the gunboat's entrance, Jiang Cheng stealthily slipped into the gunboat's interior.
This was a retired cosmic gunboat. Though called a boat, it still had some other heavy weaponry, such as rocket launchers. It was termed a gunboat because its primary weapon was a large-caliber ion cannon. Despite being retired, it was faster and sturdier compared to ordinary civilian ships, making it a favored mode of transport within the Dark World.
The gunboat seemed empty; Jiang Cheng was quite familiar with the innards of combat ships, so he wasted no time and walked straight to the command room.
While passing by the cockpit, he glanced inside. Indeed, within the cockpit's wide display screen, the image representing Delva Planet blinked. A blue broken line indicated the route of navigation, connecting two planets.
Jiang Cheng continued towards the command room, and before he reached the entrance, he heard footsteps inside.
Where has Old Bit run off to? The werewolves are attacking us now!
Jiang Cheng cautiously peeked inside, where three or four people were present. Various instruments displayed the chaotic scene at the hangar entrance.
Yanran, the smugglers had died at the hands of more than a dozen werewolves, but those few werewolves were almost killed by them. When Jiang Cheng saw this, the smugglers were aiming their weapons at the last remaining one.
The werewolf was shot, its body pierced by dozens of various-sized holes.
Ultimately, flesh and blood couldn't withstand modern weapons, and the werewolf fell to the ground with a thud, dead.
The remaining smugglers cursed, lamenting both the werewolves and their own fate, while some dropped their weapons and sat down exhausted, and more began searching for any surviving comrades.
Someone in the command room asked, looking at the display screen: "How many of us died this time?"
A voice reported: "Five dead, eleven wounded, including two severely injured."
The person in the command room cursed: "Where did these werewolves suddenly come from? Didn't we kill all nearby creatures before landing?"
No one answered, as they didn't know where the werewolves had suddenly appeared from.
The guy in the command room slumped into his seat: "This is bad. The mission could have gone well, but waiting for that Old Bit guy got so many of our men killed."
Another person chimed in: "If the boss asks, just blame it on Old Bit. If not for waiting for that old guy, we might already have reached
Deval Planet."
The guy painfully rubbed his head and said nothing, likely anticipating how his boss would handle him.
Everyone in the command room busied themselves, but one glance up revealed Jiang Cheng standing at the doorway.
He screamed: "Who are you!" His scream alerted others in the cockpit.
"Bastard! Kill him!" someone, clearly the leader, shouted angrily.
Jiang Cheng wouldn't give them that chance.
In a flash, Jiang Cheng appeared amidst them. The person who first spotted him was slapped by Jiang Cheng, sent flying and landing heavily on the floor. Following that, he sidestepped another person's thrust, not even glancing back.
A straight jab
struck the groin of that attacking person, who clutched his stomach in agony and collapsed.
The little leader, terrified, asked: "Who are you?"
Jiang Cheng eyed him coldly: "Who I am is none of your business. Tell me, are you heading to Deval Planet?"
"What do you want?" The little leader didn't answer the question.
Quick, answer!
"Go to hell!" The little leader flung a cup at Jiang Cheng and turned to flee.
Unfortunately, as he turned, something whistled and slammed into the back of his head, knocking him to the ground.
Then, those who heard the commotion through the communicator rushed up; shooting wasn't convenient in the cramped room, so they brandished various weapons and charged at Jiang Cheng. How could Jiang Cheng take these people seriously?
With swift motions, he had them all knocked to the ground.
Jiang Cheng meticulously searched the entire gunboat, discovering all the smugglers had been dealt with in the command room.
He found a small room that appeared to be used for detaining prisoners, and shoved the unconscious people inside, locking the door.
Then, he left the gunboat to fetch Yanran.
Jiang Cheng and Yanran piloted the transport ship carrying Little Flaming Crow to the gunboat.
Using the coordinates left by the smugglers, they were about to set course for Erma Planet.
In this era, transportation was entirely controlled and piloted by computers, typically requiring only the input of coordinates and setting of the route, without human intervention.
Before taking off, the two of them checked the gunboat again, and as they reached the room detaining the smugglers, they heard constant cursing, shouting, and pounding on the door inside.
Jiang Cheng was a ruthless man but not one to kill indiscriminately. Though he could easily eliminate all the smugglers, he believed it was right for them to face justice's judgment.
If everyone thought of themselves as the embodiment of justice and recklessly exercised their power, the world would descend into chaos.
