Chapter 940 - 939: Staring
After Jiang Cheng pressed the button and launched a missile, he asked Yanran, "How far are we from Delmar star?"
Yanran looked up at the display, "Ten minutes, ten minutes," she confirmed.
Jiang Cheng furrowed his brow, watching the danger signals flickering continuously on the large screen. The energy of their gunboat was rapidly depleting, and the shields had vanished. Based on the current situation, whether they could reach Delmar star remained an unknown.
The machine is still unreliable. It seems I'll have to take matters into my own hands.
"You keep piloting, I'm going out for a while," Jiang Cheng told Yanran.
"Where are you going?" Yanran asked nervously.
Jiang Cheng didn't respond to her, and got up on his own.
"I'll be afraid if you're not here." The normally strong girl looked pitifully at her instructor.
Jiang Cheng reassured her, "It's okay, I'm going to take care of the enemy. Otherwise, our ship won't last long."
But Yanran wanted to say something, then stopped.
Jiang Cheng gave her a faint smile and walked out of the cockpit.
The enemy's shot hit their gunboat quite severely, smoke was everywhere inside. Coincidentally, the shot hit the place where the smugglers were detained, but they were unharmed.
If they still have a chance to speak, I hope they curse the one who shot them more.
The enemy's gun showed up, with a bald-headed man gesturing in front of the large screen.
"Who on earth has the guts to hijack our boat?" he said coldly.
Another slender man stood next to him, constantly scratching his chin, "I can't think of who would be so bold. Didn't they see the Black Exhaust symbol on our gunboats?"
He sighed, "No matter how it goes, this time Old Bit and his men are done."
The bald man lowered his arm and also sighed, "I suppose so, our loss is quite huge this time."
"One gunboat was captured by them, another damaged," the bald man said, growing angrier, "and so many brothers!"
He waved his fist and shouted, "No matter who it is, I swear I'll kill them!"
The slender man suddenly made a gesture to stop him from talking.
"Quick! Look at the display!" The slender man's eyes were firmly fixed on the big screen.
"What do you see? Is it a person?" As he said this, the bald man also leaned forward and scrutinized.
"Impossible, it's more like a robot." The bald man pondered, "Why would they send a robot out at this time? To plead for mercy?"
The slender man mused for a moment and then gestured sharply, "Target that person and shoot!"
His instinct told him that this humanoid figure seemed to be rather menacing.
Jiang Cheng was in outer space, glaring coldly at the gunboat before him. Compared to manipulating machines, he preferred using his own fists.
Now they were still a distance away from Delmar star. If the spaceship they're riding gets shot down by pursuing enemies and they lose their combat power, then they'll lose their coordinates in the vast universe. He didn't mind, but he couldn't assure Yanran's safety.
Now it seemed that transportation was more suitable for her.
It was better to have her stay on the spaceship, Jiang Cheng decided.
The enemy's main battery flashed, and Jiang Cheng timely dodged it. A beam grazed past him.
The enemies inside the gunboat were stunned. As the distance closed, they realized that the person in front of them, despite looking different, was indeed a human.
How could a human dodge an Ion Cannon's attack?
The slender man immediately ordered, "Turn the ship around, quickly exit the combat zone!"
The bald man next to him still didn't understand what was happening. He didn't know why they were fleeing when they had the upper hand.
The slender man didn't have time to explain to him; that foolish bald head was not like him.
A human, capable of being alone in the vast universe, facing two gunboats without showing any fear, immune even to the Ion Cannon.
Is this still human?
In this situation, if we don't run, are we waiting for death?
With the urging, the intact gunboat made an arc, abandoning their companion, and fled alone.
Seeing this scene unfold, Jiang Cheng couldn't help but recall a famous saying from over a hundred years ago on Water Ball: When facing danger, I don't care how fast I run, as long as I'm faster than my teammates.
The ship that was hit by Jiang Cheng didn't have such good luck to escape.
Though they might understand now that the person appearing in front of them must be fully assured in dealing with them.
"Fire, fire at will!" the gunboat commander frantically ordered, "launch the Ion Cannons, rockets, lasers, everything!"
This was their last act of desperation. At this moment, the smugglers didn't have the mood to think about the people they pursued in the past.
If they still had the mood, they would know how desperate they felt now.
Jiang Cheng's figure flickered, disappearing from view.
The commander inside the gunboat kept shouting, "Where is that person? Find him, locate him immediately!"
By the time they discovered Jiang Cheng standing at the rear side of their gunboat, it was already too late.
A light saber, tens of meters long, appeared in Jiang Cheng's hand. With a flash of light, the saber, moving beyond the speed of light, slashed towards the gunboat.
The gunboat let out a huge explosion, split in half, emitting flames as it fell into the endless void of space.
Jiang Cheng watched coldly as the gunboat continued to fall.
In a flash, Jiang Cheng appeared inside the spaceship where Yanran was piloting, "How far are we from the target planet?" His tone was quite relaxed.
"Five minutes," Yanran replied.
A smile appeared on Jiang Cheng's face.
On their journey to Delmar star, Jiang Cheng and Yanran were attacked by the companions of the smugglers. Their gunboat was damaged, and in such circumstances, Jiang Cheng stood up, facing the enemy's two gunboats alone. One enemy gunboat realized Jiang Cheng was not easy to deal with and fled, while the remaining gunboat, having been damaged, after a brief final struggle, was shot down by Jiang Cheng.
Now, their destination, Delmar star, was almost within sight.
However, they didn't notice that not far behind them, the gunboat that escaped the combat zone had returned. It lingered far behind Jiang Cheng and Yanran. Inside the enemy's gunboat, the slender man and the bald man were staring intently at Jiang Cheng and Yanran's image on the big screen, a trace of venom and ruthlessness appearing on their faces.
