Surviving in the Beast World with a System
Chapter 425 - 360: My Country (Part 2)
The Angry Beast’s small brain spun furiously. He racked his brain, but only one solution came to mind: ’I have to steal their secrets!’
And so, the next day, the beastmen of the Snow Tiger Tribe discovered that the glossy green Scorpion Beastmen had shaken off their previous dejection. They had even started helping voluntarily, no longer needing the lure of delicious food.
Such abnormal behavior was a sure sign something was amiss. When a donkey that won’t budge even with a whip suddenly becomes diligent, there can only be one reason. ’Those green-skinned guys are plotting something, and considering what’s been happening in the tribe lately, they’re probably after our houses.’
Under the leadership of their unscrupulous witch, the Beastman Warriors of the Snow Tiger Tribe were hardly a bunch of simpletons. Beneath their honest tiger pelts beat cunning little hearts.
After reporting the Scorpion Beastmen’s odd behavior to the witch and the Clan Leader, they secretly prepared to teach a lesson to those green-faced Scorpions who were still plotting something wicked.
So today, they held a secretive discussion about going somewhere far away to gather special stones for house foundations. This was ’accidentally’ overheard by the Scorpion Beastmen, who then begged to be taken along to scrounge for some food. After several refusals, the Snow Tigers finally agreed with great reluctance.
And just like that, the few green figures that were occasionally seen around the tribe vanished completely from the Snow Tiger Tribe.
The long rainy season passed, and everything began to grow. The tribespeople gathered and hunted daily, so there was no shortage of food.
Building houses now became the tribe’s top priority. With the Scorpion Beastmen gone, everyone could finally work without holding back.
For the sake of sturdy, warm houses, swallowing their pride to learn how to fire bricks and tiles from the slaves no longer seemed so difficult.
And as they spent more time with the slaves, the Snow Tiger tribespeople discovered they were actually quite clever and good-natured. As a result, the atmosphere in the tribe improved steadily.
Meanwhile, Wu Yue had already washed her hands of the house-building project and was focusing wholeheartedly on her great agricultural endeavor.
The heavens are vast and the earth is wide, but eating is what matters most.
After a round of fertilization, the once-malnourished taro seedlings finally began to grow. Unfortunately, so did the weeds.
To deal with the weeds, Wu Yue reassigned a few of the slaves who had been making brick molds.
Knowing how much Wu Yue valued the taro, the slaves were exceptionally diligent. The first thing they did every morning was patrol the taro patch. They treated even the tiniest sprouting weed as if it were a mortal enemy, refusing to rest until they had dug out every last bit of its root.
With no weeds to compete for nutrients and with the tribe’s encampment being spacious and sunny, the taro seedlings were thriving. They seemed to be in a race to grow, changing noticeably from one day to the next.
She had thought she would get to witness the taro’s entire growth process, but just after lunch, her tent flap was abruptly thrown open. A Half beastman Warrior rushed in, his face grim.
"Yue, get to the witch’s cave, quickly!"
Seeing his expression, Wu Yue’s heart leaped into her throat. With no time to ask for a reason, she quickly picked a piece of wild vegetable from between her teeth and ran after the Half beastman toward the witch’s cave.
Inside the Snow Tiger Witch’s cave, the atmosphere was heavy. Even the ever-composed Yuan Lang had his dark brows slightly furrowed.
Seeing Wu Yue come in, he gestured for her to sit to one side.
Only then did Wu Yue notice them—a few Beastman Warriors from the Black Wolf Tribe, a group synonymous with trouble.
They looked truly wretched. The fur on their bodies appeared to have been scorched by something, leaving them with bald patches here and there.
"You’ve all seen the state of the Black Wolf Tribe’s Beastman Warriors. I trust you all know what this means."
"The Fireball Beasts, who leave to escape the long rainy season, are returning to the Polar Forest. The Black Wolf Tribe’s warriors discovered their tracks in the part of the forest very close to our territory."
"The weather is going to get hotter every day. We must drive these Fireball Beasts back into the depths of the Polar Forest as quickly as possible. Otherwise, disaster will strike again."
’Fireball Beasts? Disaster?’
Wu Yue sat to one side, utterly baffled. ’Could someone please say something I can understand!’
"We’ll put a hold on building the houses. A portion of the Beastman Warriors will remain to hunt; the rest will all be dispatched to drive off the Fireball Beasts," the Clan Leader said.
The witch nodded, agreeing with the Clan Leader’s plan.
The assembled Beastman Warriors naturally had no objections. This was about the land they and their ancestors had lived on for generations; of course, they would do everything in their power to protect it.
