Chapter 85: Chapter 85: Just ’Charlotte Morgan’ a Second Ago, Now It’s All ’Wife

"Aren’t you going to ask what Superpower it is?"

The moment Charlotte Morgan said this, she couldn’t help but laugh, a hint of embarrassment in her smile.

She realized she had been a bit too familiar.

She and Sierra Sullivan weren’t that close.

Just as Charlotte was floundering in awkward silence, Sierra smiled and asked a question in return.

"What Superpower is it?"

Charlotte looked at Sierra, a little surprised.

She truly hadn’t expected Sierra to ask a question at that moment just to ease her embarrassment.

’Sierra really is...’

’...a pretty decent person!’

Charlotte breathed a sigh of relief, and her posture became much more relaxed than it had been moments before.

"A Wood Element Ability."

Hearing this, Sierra was also a little surprised.

’A Wood Element Ability?’

’That’s great!’

Every new Wood Ability User meant they were one day closer to solving the food problem.

Charlotte’s thoughts turned to Candice Tate, her eyes filled with envy.

But the envy was fleeting, and she quickly accepted her reality.

Everyone is different.

She didn’t have Candice Tate’s talent, but just having a Superpower was incredible enough.

If she wasn’t content with that, she’d only be making things harder on herself.

With these thoughts, Charlotte grew even more at ease.

"But my talent isn’t as good as Candice Tate’s. I can feel it myself," Charlotte said.

Sierra nodded. "That’s perfectly normal! Everyone is different! There’s no need to compare. Talent is important, but so is hard work! As long as you focus on improving your Superpower, you’ll definitely do well."

"Thank you!" Charlotte said, her face full of gratitude. "Thank you for comforting me."

Sierra paused, then shook her head with a smile. "You’ve misunderstood. I’m not comforting you, I’m just telling you the truth!"

’That was what she really thought.’ It was the truth; she wasn’t just saying it to make Charlotte feel better.

A blush crept up Charlotte’s cheeks, but she smiled and said nothing more.

Just then, Tim Everett threw open the door and strode out of the room.

Before he even reached the living room, Tim started shouting at Charlotte.

"Charlotte Morgan, why are you taking so long to come inside? What are you doing out here? Are you going to keep making a scene?"

Before, if Tim had suddenly blown up like this, Charlotte would have been too scared to speak and would have immediately followed him back to their room. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

This time, however, Charlotte’s face turned cold as she looked at Tim without a trace of emotion.

"You can’t talk to me like that anymore."

Tim seemed stunned, not expecting Charlotte to say such a thing.

But he quickly recovered and scoffed.

"Are you sleep-talking? If I don’t talk to you like this, how should I talk to you? Who do you think you are?"

"I’m... a Superpower User!"

"You’re a Superpower User?" Tim’s expression became exaggerated. "I think you’re still dreaming! You, a Superpower User? Keep dreaming!"

Sierra pretended to pull a packet of seeds from her pocket and handed it to Charlotte. "Show him."

As Charlotte reached out to take the packet of seeds, her hands were trembling.

Even though she knew she had awakened a Superpower, this was the first time she would truly use it. It was impossible not to be excited.

Charlotte took a deep breath, opened the packet, and took out a single seed.

The seed lay quietly in the palm of her hand.

A few breaths later, the seed began to sprout and grow.

In the blink of an eye, the seed had become a tender green sprout.

But that wasn’t all.

The sprout grew larger and larger, until finally Charlotte had to hold it with both hands.

It was a head of cabbage!

A huge one, like the kind from the Northeast!

Its vibrantly green leaves gave off a fresh, sweet scent that made everyone’s mouth water.

Especially Tim’s.

Before the apocalypse, Tim wouldn’t have given a head of cabbage a second glance.

But after the apocalypse, the daily food options were limited.

And while they ate some rehydrated vegetables and mushrooms, they just couldn’t compare to fresh produce.

They were worlds apart in both appearance and texture.

Now, seeing this head of cabbage, Tim’s eyes went wide, and he even swallowed hard.

"This..."

Tim’s mind raced.

"Honey, you really awakened a Superpower? This is amazing!"

He’d been calling her Charlotte Morgan just a moment ago, and now suddenly it was "Honey"!

Tim was the very picture of shamelessness.

Without even turning her head, Sierra could see Jayce and Kevin Everett looking utterly speechless out of the corner of her eye.

The father and son’s expressions were identical. Even the way they shut their eyes, as if they couldn’t bear to watch, was exactly the same.

But Tim couldn’t care less what others thought of him.

Tim hurried forward until he was in front of Charlotte. "Honey! That cabbage must be heavy, right? Don’t hold it, you’ll get tired! Let me hold it for you!"

As if she wasn’t the least bit surprised by his behavior, Charlotte scoffed and tossed the cabbage to him.

Tim fumbled to catch it, not a hint of displeasure on his face. In fact, he was grinning obsequiously.

"Honey! You must be tired! You rest here for a bit. I’ll go back and clean up the room to make it more comfortable for you!"

Without waiting for a reply, Tim scurried back into the room, clutching the large cabbage.

From the way he looked, it seemed less like he was going to clean the room and more like he was going to devour the cabbage.

Only after Tim had shut the door did Charlotte’s cold expression finally change.

Charlotte sighed and looked at Sierra.

Then, she leaned in closer and whispered, "Don’t judge Jayce by Tim’s behavior. He’s not like his father! Don’t worry!"

Sierra: "???"

’What was there for me to worry about?!’

’She knew perfectly well what kind of person Jayce was!’

Still, Charlotte was just trying to be kind with her reminder, and Sierra wasn’t one to be ungrateful, so she just smiled and nodded. "I know!"

Although the two were speaking quietly, the living room was only so big, they weren’t far apart, and it was otherwise silent. Kevin Everett and Jayce still overheard their conversation.

Kevin Everett cleared his throat, both to ease the awkwardness and to signal that he had something to say.

Sierra and Charlotte stopped their quiet chat and both looked over at Kevin Everett.

Kevin Everett composed his expression, then said to Charlotte with gravity, "You’re a Superpower User now. From now on, you need to work hard on improving your ability. I won’t say much more. You’re a grown woman, so you understand things. Just be sure you know what you should and shouldn’t do."
