The Assassin's Redemption: A Princess's Journey to Forgiveness
Chapter 176: Something’s Off
"There’s at least fifty plus men in the blockade Your Highness," a spy reported. Alexander rose from his seat staring at the direction of the blockade. It was already night and he could see the lit torches of the blockade from afar. They had offed theirs to avoid being noticed. "We attack now!" He said narrowing his gaze. "Propel the ships forward," the captain reported. Thanks to Arcadia, Valoria could indiscreetly approach the blockade with the help of their ships. Alexander had a nagging feeling that this wasn’t going to end well. The fact that only fifty or so men were on the blockade made him alarmed. He had to act wise lest he falls straight into the enemy’s plan. "Inform the other captains to stay behind. Only three ships will be moving forward from here. I’ll signal them once they are required." Alexander said. "Right away," the captain said. Alexander narrowed his gaze at the blockade before his eyes turned vividly green. This technique he had learnt one night when he found himself in a dark alley recently. He was surprised that he could see through the night. This, he named night vision. He spotted a few Crescian knights playing cards on the thatched houses in the blockade uninterested. Several others were chatting happily and some were even sleeping. It looked like they weren’t expecting an attack anytime soon. But to Alexander, this was just but a bait. He had a bad feeling Griffin was up to something. No sane king would install fifty or so knights in an enemy’s blockade. "Do you feel like something is off?" Alexander asked the captain once he was back. Maybe he was the only one feeling this impending dome. "Not really," the captain answered steering the ship a little left. They were now even more closer. They could hear the indistinct chatter of the Crescians. It was like they were having a party, maybe for gaining victory over the Valorian blockade. "Don’t you think it is abnormal their defense is not tight?" Alexander pressed on. Or maybe he was being pessimistic. Knights celebrate victory, right? But this gut feeling? "Should we stop? We’re too close already," the captain said instead. "Sure. Ready the men." The captain left and conveyed the order in whispers. Alexander just stared blankly at the sea and wait.. Did he see movement or was his eyes playing tricks on him? Holy cow! He threw a glance at his already alighting men and cursed. They had been ambushed! They were in fact surrounded. "Stop! We are surrounded!" He yelled but it was too late already. The blockade wall which was unusually quiet got lined with archers, each holding flaming arrows. ’Swish’ They were released. "Goddamnit!" Alexander cursed hurrying to help his men before the arrows struck. But the Crescians had their moves well calculated. In the sea were Griffin’s elite group. They sprang from all directions like sea monsters and started butchering the Valorian knights. "Shit!" The captain said taking few steps back whilst staring at the sea of arrows in disbelief. He’d definitely get killed and he was foolishly standing there. "Are you mad?" Alexander called but seems the captain was too hypnotized to hear his voice. He was definitely courting death. Alexander acted swift and jerked him away before the arrows struck him. "Fuck!" Their ships were now in flames giving the enemy advantage over them. "His Majesty is in danger! We need to attack immediately," the commander of the ships that had been left behind said. "Nope," sir Brandon interjected. Everyone looked at him in disbelief. What did he mean no? "Hey Arcadian? Are you nuts?" The captain of the ship he was on board asked. "Don’t listen to this brat. Seeing his Majesty dead would light a smile on his poker face." The commander said earning an uproar from the knights on board. "Let’s go!" He yelled and the ships propelled forward crazily. "You don’t understand," Brandon tried to explain to the captain."What is there to understand boy?" He asked looking down upon the less aged Knight. After all, experience is the best teacher. "Can’t you see they are surrounded and there are archers on the blockade.""Archers? I don’t see any archers.""Of course you are blind," Brandon said. "What did you just say?" "I mean, how else would the ships go into flames?" He stated logic. "Oh shit," the commander cursed but it was too late already. Another wave of flaming arrows was coming on their way. He should have listened to the boy."Protect yourselves!" He yelled and ducked to avoid the arrows. Coincidentally, Brandon was there as well. "See what I told you granny," he said. "And as we speak, Crescian knights are already on board slaughtering our men."The captain craned his neck and it was indeed true. "See? I told you." The commander nodded now. "Let me show you how it’s done." Brandon said and drew his sword, a playful smirk dancing on his face. Lord! He misses war! He missed this! "Where did you learn all that?" The commander asked. "They call it experience, granny. Are you going to stay there forever or join me?" The commander stared at him for a while before nodding. "Let’s do this," he said unsheathing his sword as well. The first two people to rise on the already flaming ship. Crescians had taken advantage of the attack and were now getting on board killing the Valorian knights who were off guard. But a crawny scream of a Crescian was what motivated the Valorians. One by one, they stood up, a welcoming scene of their commander fighting alongside his Arcadian counterpart lifting their spirits. What was once a ship had turned to a battlefield. "I need him alive," Griffin told two of his elite group members, definitely the best. He was standing on land, a smile playing on his face at how well his plan had been executed. The life of one King Alexander would end tonight! That, he was certain of. The One was a tale only reserved for Crescia’s Royal Family yet the prince had the guts to take it away. He’d die in the most ugliest way ever. There was no escape today!
