Chapter 185: Powerless!

Folding his hands together, the witch leader started mumbling some incoherent words that only he could decipher. The weather became more worse and the heavy downpour descended on Alexander offing him completely. But that was not all. Veins instantly popped on his face, a sharp pain enveloping every nerve of his body. Isadora looked at her father surprised. What the hell were they doing to him? She tried to free herself but the knights knew her stubbornness and held her in position. "Watch as your so called husband dies," Marcus said with a smirk but the look he got. ’If you kill him, I’m going to kill you. I swear!’ That look matched her words now. He instinctively swallowed and faced the other side. Alexander groaned, a force like a pull suddenly surging in him. What the hell were these witches up to. His eyes turned red as if he had got dehydrated. And as if that was not enough, he was lifted a few feet off the ground, each of his bone cracking at each inch higher. He let out the loudest of growls that it made Isadora scream. A white halo enveloped him before an alchemy like symbol materialized between him and the witch. Energy started sipping from Alexander and flowing to the witch leader through the symbol. "So powerful!" The witch said. The halo had cast a bright blinding light in the area that caused the fight to a halt. The few remaining Valorians took this chance to slip away. After all, they had seen their king die. And even if he was alive, he couldn’t survive! "This is it!" The witch leader exclaimed feeling the powers of Alexander course through his nerves. He could be the most powerful being in the world now! Time flew and yet the energy was still not depleted. Sweat broke on Alexander’s face as he grew paler and thinner in each passing second. No sane human could go nearer the bright light unless they wanted to die. His teary eyes looked sideways and landed on the person who loved him the most. His lips moved to say something but no words came out. His vision was turning blurry with each passing second and all he could see was Isadora screaming and struggling to free herself from the knights. And before his eyes closed, he saw her break free and run towards him before everything turned to darkness. Panic kicked in the witch leader’s being when there was no sign of depletion of power from the source. He was already burning trying to control the surplus he had but the alchemy couldn’t stop unless the source was depleted, which meant he’d die! He had to do something. Oh yes! He had to share this power. He acted swift and created multiple alchemy symbols feeding everyone present with the power apart from Isadora. Isadora ran across the field halting in front of a limp Alexander. The only thing separating them was the bright light. Walking through this light without the filter, which would be the alchemy symbol in that case, would render her dead. But she didn’t care. All she wanted was to touch him, feel him and wake him up, tell him everything was going to be alright. A bold step! The light passed through her being instantly heating her intestines. Sharp pain coursed through her veins, tears forming on the brim of her eyes. Another step! Tears were now flowing down her cheeks. But when her gaze landed on Alexander, all her pain got replaced by fear, fear of losing him. She could hear her father call her but that turned to background noise for her. She softly placed her hand on Alexander’s cheek and called his name. First time, no response. "Alexander?" She called again, but still no response. Fear engulfed, her heart now beating close to her ears. She shook him lightly at first and then vigorously but still nothing happened. She even slapped him but no response. "Don’t you dare leave me!" She said slamming his chest with her fists. Tears flowed from the renewable spring she was now. All her hopes had been crushed to nothingness, all because of her father. Thinking of him alone brought a rage life no other. She’d definitely kill him this time. Hopeless, she laid her face on his chest letting her tears flow freely when she caught a heartbeat, and another. Surprised, she sat up and looked at his face. Gods! He was looking at her, but the most pained look she had ever seen! She suddenly hated the world and everyone. "Alex? Are you okay?" She held his head and looked in his eyes. "I’m here for you," she whispered biting her lips between her teeth. "I’m sor...ry," Alexander said in a forced whisper. "It’s okay," replied she holding his head even tighter. Looking at his live eyes alone felt like therapy to her. "I’m sorry for letting you go through this," he said looking at her belly. Isadora shifted her gaze gasping in surprise at the sight that welcomed her. The rollercoaster of emotions had led her foolish self to death. Now there was a large hole in her belly where the light was passing through! She’d never survive! But at least she was happy he was still there. "Don’t be," she said placing her palm on his cheek. "I’m happy for you. I love you Alexander." Alexander held her arm and said, "I’m going to make sure everyone who did this to you pays for it. Every witch and Crescian alike, even if it means in the afterlife!" "Kill my father," she said with no hint of emotion on her face before she gave him a blank stare. A rage like no other enveloped Alexander’s being as he held her limp self in his hands. "Noooo!" He let out a pained cry that reached the whole battlefield. They’d feel his wrath. He placed Isadora softly on the ground and picked his sword. But he had a great disadvantage now! He was powerless!
