The Best Point Guard
Chapter 240 - 48: Thank the Wolf King for His Coordination Talent
It’s like no matter how good Bruce Lee’s kung fu was, he definitely couldn’t beat a Tyson who outweighed him by several weight classes in a ring.
This was science.
But Su Xi could pose a real, physical threat to a center.
Su Xi used all his strength to lock up Garnett’s lower body, making it incredibly difficult for him to back down.
This forced Garnett to attempt a spin move.
But the instant Garnett began to spin, Su Xi anticipated it. Su Xi’s current explosiveness was as high as 99 points, and he had Little Dominator Stoudemire to thank for that.
Su Xi executed a slide step to move laterally, blocking his path head-on.
And he began to attempt a wrap-around steal.
In a flash, Garnett’s exceptionally outstanding coordination came into play... After one spin, he executed another perfect spin in the opposite direction... completely shaking off Su Xi’s defense.
But just as Su Xi was beaten by the successive counter-spins, his long-dormant Super Coordination Talent rapidly climbed. 92—93.
Garnett had done him a great service this time.
Coordination was one of the most crucial hidden talents. It was a key talent that connected the entire body and linked all other talents together.
With his coordination raised to 93, Su Xi’s overall abilities improved, not just on defense, but on offense as well.
Garnett finally managed to get past Su Xi, only for Little O’Neal to quickly rotate over to help.
He lost his shooting window.
As an old-school player, he was not accustomed to or good at sneaky travel steps, so he quickly passed the ball to an open Cassell on the wing. Cassell took the jumper... CLANK!
Cassell actually missed the shot.
The Pacers had already boxed out under the basket, and Su Xi leaped to easily grab the rebound.
He immediately launched a fast break. He charged up the court and passed to Little O’Neal for a pull-up jumper at the high post. As Su Xi and Garnett battled for position under the basket, Little O’Neal’s shot went in.
The lead continued to grow.
After the change of possession, Cassell and Garnett ran a pick-and-roll, and Su Xi once again switched onto Garnett.
Garnett faced up Su Xi one-on-one, showcasing his incredible high-speed spin moves and putting his coordination talent on full display. Su Xi’s Super Coordination Talent almost leveled up again, but it was just a tiny bit short.
This time, Garnett finally assisted Olajuwon on a successful layup.
"Scoring is harder for the Timberwolves right now than getting a nun to take off her clothes," Mike Brin described on TV. He said, "Spreeville has shown zero offensive desire tonight. Why has he suddenly stopped being so wild in front of Little Sheep Su Xi? He’s the one who looks like a sheep."
The game continued.
The Timberwolves managed to find some of their offensive rhythm afterward, but the deficit never changed. The Pacers maintained a double-digit lead.
Su Xi rested for a while in the latter half of the third quarter, completely satisfied. His Super Coordination Talent had absorbed enough from defending the angry Wolf King to fuse up to 94.
This meant that Su Xi’s talent and abilities had seen a significant boost before the playoffs arrived.
It was one of Su Xi’s biggest gains of the night.
Even after Su Xi went to the bench, the Pacers held their lead. Kenny Anderson’s hand stayed hot, and he was eating up Cassell like a Fijian fruit.
"The Pacers are a natural counter to the Timberwolves. If the Finals this year were between the Timberwolves and the Pacers, I don’t think the Pacers would even let the series go to a sixth game," Tim Hardaway said on TV. "Because the Timberwolves’ defensive and offensive systems are comprehensively weaker than the Pacers’. They’re like a watered-down version of the Pacers."
Hardaway’s words were harsh.
But the fans watching on TV agreed.
That was just how it was.
Four minutes into the fourth quarter, Su Xi suited up and returned to the court.
The Timberwolves were now trailing by 15 points.
On his very first play back in, Su Xi assisted Foster on an alley-oop. Su Xi drove towards the paint, and as he reached the free-throw line, he suddenly executed a sharp spin move. Garnett, who had switched onto him, was caught completely off guard... He even saw a shadow of his own spin move in Su Xi’s.
According to the pre-game scouting report, Su Xi wasn’t skilled at changing direction or spinning at high speeds.
But now... Su Xi had executed it with such high proficiency.
Magic Johnson, watching on TV, was secretly amazed. He was starting to admit that Su Xi’s aggressiveness on the drive was greater than his own. After all, he had the height of a power forward, which affected both his low-dribbling center of gravity and his ability to execute quick spins like that.
Su Xi himself was a bit incredulous after blowing by the defender, because he normally couldn’t pull off a technical move of this difficulty. So, when Olajuwon came up to defend, he didn’t try to make another move. Instead, he lobbed the ball into the paint, and Foster leaped up to slam it into the basket.
The Timberwolves were powerless to resist.
They were being completely outmatched on a tactical level.
Sanders stood on the sideline, lost and helpless. ’A profound sadness welled up inside me. I have a premonition that this year’s Coach of the Year trophy has already sprouted wings and flown to Indiana Rick Carlisle’s desk.’
Tonight, the Timberwolves originally had three major plans.
First: Win. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
Second: Put Su Xi in his place.
Third: Tactically crush Carlisle.
Now, all three plans had completely failed.
Sanders was about to call a timeout; he had to declare that garbage time had arrived.
But just then, Cassell quickly received the ball and was launching a fast break.
He dribbled into the frontcourt and then passed to Spreeville.
The Madman took the ball and ran a pick-and-roll with Garnett. Su Xi followed, and he and Artest tried to double-team the Madman.
But the Madman quickly passed the ball to Garnett. Garnett pump-faked, getting Little O’Neal to bite, and was just about to shoot when Artest came over to help on defense.
Artest put a body on him, forcing him to turn and look for a teammate.
But in the instant he glanced away, Su Xi shot over like a bolt of lightning... SMACK!
He slapped the ball right out of his hands, immediately scooped up the loose ball, and sprinted down the court.
Garnett gave chase relentlessly.
Su Xi charged to the free-throw line and quickly lobbed the ball towards the basket, where Artest was streaking in from the other side.
Just as Artest was about to complete the alley-oop, Garnett dove over to intercept.
But in mid-air, Artest just tapped the ball upward... like he was setting a volleyball.
Garnett, caught completely by surprise, had to hastily land.
Su Xi had already galloped into position. He leaped violently... and though his vertical wasn’t that high, his momentum was overwhelming.
He grabbed the ball with one hand and threw it down hard towards the rim. Garnett had just landed... THUD!
Su Xi crashed into him like a cannonball. His footing still unsteady, Garnett stumbled and couldn’t stop himself from staggering backward.
As he stumbled back, his eyes widened to see Su Xi in mid-air, looking like an unstoppable, awe-inspiring god descending to earth.
BOOM!
Su Xi threw it down with a two-handed dunk.
Utterly dominant.
Garnett had finally backed into the basket stanchion, but his left hand had grabbed the camera cover... The force was too great, and it immediately sliced open a gash. Blood started to drip, drip, drip down.
HISS!
As Su Xi landed on the floor, his eyes swept fiercely over him.
Making Garnett look even more pathetic.
Su Xi had once again made good on his declaration.
He had made Garnett look pathetic again.
Although there was still a gap in skill between him and Garnett.
Although Mike Brin kept emphasizing that Su Xi was only playing so well because of the Pacers’ overall team strength.
But right now, Su Xi was the one looking awe-inspiring, and Garnett was the one who’d been dunked on so hard he stumbled to the sideline and cut his hand.
Su Xi was still the victor. He had still ruined Garnett’s reputation.
It was no exaggeration to call him Garnett’s kryptonite.
The head referee stopped the game and ordered Garnett off the court to treat his wound.
Despite his indignation.
Despite wanting to keep fighting.
But Sanders told him it was pointless. "You need to go get a tetanus shot."
Su Xi returned to the bench like a great general who had conquered the northwest. The eyes of the Timberwolves fans on the sidelines were filled with fear.
Su Xi’s performance was just too domineering.
He was born to ’conquer.’
At that moment, Mike Brin looked over Su Xi’s stats and turned pale with shock.
’How on earth did this guy, Su Xi, do it?’
