The Billionaire's Revenge Wife
Chapter 30: A Warning
"I understand where you’re coming from father," Daemon started, staring right into the old man’s eyes. "But I’m not divorcing Arianna."
The office went dead silent, everyone turning their head to Daemon, especially Arianna.
She stared at him, a mix of emotions on her face.
She’d expected him to listen to his father, but he’d objected to his orders. She should be glad. This meant that she could still help her father.
However, it only made her suspicious of Daemon even more, making her wonder what he could possibly want from her.
"When Arianna and I got married, it was an agreement made by the both of us, which means that neither of you have the right to make such a demand. If we are going to divorce, then that will be our decision to make," he explained, his tone deadpan, leaving no room for arguments.
Unfortunately, his father didn’t take the hint.
His hands slammed against the table hard, making Nicole who was sitting directly next to him flinch in fear.
"Can you hear yourself?" He spat, teeth gnashing. "You want to stay married to the daughter of the man who killed your own mother?! Have you gone insane?"
"I’ve not gone insane," Daemon replied. "You were the one asking me to get married, remember? I’ve done that and now you seem to have a problem with it."
Mr. Langford’s lips thinned into a straight line, utterly dumbfounded by his son’s words. If this was a nightmare, then he wanted to wake up as soon as possible.
He would father die than to have a Wesley be a member of his family.
"You cannot get married to a Wesley!" Mr. Langford yelled.
"Well, it’s already too late for that now," Daemon shrugged as he stood up and reached for Arianna’s hand.
She blinked at him before she placed her hand in his.
"You may catch up now. I’ll be leaving with my wife," he said, ready to leave.
Then he heard it, the sound of the soldiers moving, positioning their weapons on them.
Daemon turned, thinking he would see Mr. Wesley’s soldiers pointing their weapons at him but he saw his father’s soldiers instead.
They were ready to shoot.
Daemon cocked an eyebrow at them.
"Are you forgetting who you’re working for?" He demanded, tone low and cold.
The soldiers were hesitant, their guns trembling in their hands.
"Walk out that door and I’ll blow her brains out," Mr. Langford threatened.
Hearing the threat directed at the daughter of their don, the Wesley soldiers pointed their guns at Mr. Langford and his children, the same determination on the Langford soldiers on their faces. And unlike the Langford soldiers, the Wesley’s were more than ready to fire if need be.
Josephine scoffed as she pulled out her pistol from her pants. "Aren’t you a little too old to be making such a threat?" She asked, a grin on her lips as she cocked her gun. "I mean, you’ve lived a long life but still, do you think it’s worth it dying in your white painted office?"
Nicole stood up, retrieving her weapon and aimed at Josephine. "I suggest you think twice before making anymore comments you won’t see getting fulfilled."
Both Cassian and Christian stood up, retrieving each of their weapons and just like that, the temperature dropped even more than it already did with every single person held at a gun point.
Frederick glanced around, his grin still on his lips.
’This is actually more fun than I thought it would be.’
Daemon glared at his father. "You seem to be forgetting that I’m Pakhan now, father. You’re no longer in the position to tell me what and what not to do. Must I remind you the punishment given to those who threaten Pakhans?"
Mr. Langford breathed heavily.
He knew about the punishment because he was the one who’d given it out and legalized it incase an insider betrayed or threatened the leader of the mafia.
But will Daemon really do such a thing for an enemy’s daughter? He didn’t want to believe that.
"I know that neither of us are happy about the union, but there’s a much better way to go about this without anyone getting hurt," Mr. Wesley said.
"If you’re talking about a divorce, then you might as well forget about it," Daemon interrupted before the man could continue.
Mr. Wesley stared at his daughter, expecting her to say something.
"Father," she called gently. "We can’t divorce."
Daemon held a proud look on his face when he heard her words.
"I think that pretty much sums it up." And with that, Daemon pulled Arianna along with him as they both left the room while both their fathers called for them.
Arianna felt guilty for leaving her father in that situation. But she needed to take her stance. He didn’t want to accept help from Langfords because of their dirty history, but then again, Daemon was the only one offering to help.
But then...
She suddenly halted, causing Daemon to turn back to look at her.
"What if they kill each other?" She asked. This was the first time both families were meeting again after what had happened years ago. The chances of blood shedding was truly high.
"Don’t worry, they won’t. Their main priority is to separate us so I doubt they’re going to be spending time killing each other."
Even so, Arianna’s heart didn’t rest from beating so rapidly.
She sighed, her head turning to the office they’d just left. There were no sounds of gunshot, so he was probably right.
"Since Cassian is already here, I’ll quickly get the list of weapons that we’ll need," she said, her head turning back to face Daemon who was already staring at her first. "And remember, once all of this is over, we’re getting that divorce. Don’t think I won’t just because I said so back in there."
Daemon merely grinned at her. "We’ll see about that, my love."
Daemon stepped into the family’s main mansion. It was already dark at night, Arianna had gone back to her family to have a word with them, and he was here to have a word with his father, more like a warning for the nonsense he’d displayed earlier.
He was the Pakhan of the Bratva now, he’d been for a few years now after his father stepped down, which meant he had most of the power and control over their businesses, which also meant he had the right to make any kind of decision he wanted to make regarding the business and most especially, his own life.
His father is the one with the feud with the Wesley’s, not him.
He can’t say what he saw the night his mother died, and since he knew the real truth, the hostility both families passed around each other didn’t bother him at all.
As soon as Daemon walked inside the living room, all heads turned to him.
His father glared hard at him as if he was the root of all his problems. Same as Nicole, who was sitting close to him, patting him as if that will help ease his temper.
Then came Frederick, who was sitting on a separate couch, a magazine in his hands.
He heard Daemon’s footsteps and his head spun to him.
"You’re back." There was not a single bit of worry or rage evident in his face. Then he turned back to his magazine and completely zoned out.
"Have you lost your mind?" Mr. Langford questioned, standing up from his seat. "You’re married to a Wesley—"
"May I remind you that you’re the one who’s always been bugging me to get married?"
"But to a Wesley. There are so many women out there Daemon, and you just happened to choose the daughter of the man who killed your mother. Have you no shame? What do you think your mother is going to think? You married the daughter of her murderer." Then he paused when he noticed that Daemon didn’t say a word. "You’re doing this because you plan on getting back on her family for what they did to us, am I right? It’s all a part of your plan."
Then he laughed, patting Daemon on the shoulders proudly. "No wonder you didn’t want to say anything in their presence. Now that you’re married to her, you can do whatever you want to do to her. Bring her to the dungeon, we can try our new tools on her so that Jeremy can finally get a taste of his own medicine."
Daemon stared at his father as if he’d gone crazy.
The old man was so bent on avenging his wife that he was even willing to lie to himself.
Unfortunately for him, daemon had no time to waste.
"Like I said earlier, Arianna and I are married but not because she’ll be used to avenge mother’s death. I came here to warn you to stay away from her. What you pulled earlier is punishable by death and if you cross the line once again..." He paused, watching the smile falter from his father’s face. "I don’t think I’m going to be lenient on you."
