The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master
Chapter 309: Come at Me if You Dare
Zachary Preston knew his illness would leave lasting complications. So if Rona Langdon didn’t want to take care of him and wanted a divorce, he would agree. After all, he had never been a burden to anyone in his entire life.
But only now did he realize the truth. Rona Langdon not only refused to take care of him, but she also planned to keep the family’s money for herself rather than pay for his treatment. She even wanted to forcibly take his home and had brought the entire Langdon family to pressure him.
He had only been home for a little over six months, yet the daughter to whom he had barely fulfilled any of his fatherly duties was now shielding him from the storm with her frail shoulders! 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
Zachary Preston knew he was completely useless now. ’For Vera Xavier to be this protective of me, it can only be out of pure, selfless love!’
The hospital room was empty; Vera Xavier had already sent their grandparents away. Lying motionless in bed, Zachary Preston was overwhelmed with a whirlwind of emotions and murmured, "Vera... This must be so hard on you..."
Rona Langdon was livid. "Vera Xavier, I’ve never seen anyone so stupid! If you don’t get out of my way today, I won’t be so nice!"
Vera Xavier said coldly, "I’m not moving. Come at me if you have the guts."
Rona Langdon was seething with rage. She turned to the Langdon family members behind her and said, "Whoever takes Vera Xavier down today gets half of this ten thousand yuan!"
At the mention of money, the greedy members of the Langdon family perked up as if they’d been shot up with adrenaline. They exchanged glances, all understanding what the others were thinking.
When there was no money involved, no one wanted to take the lead. But now that cash was on the line, they were instantly motivated.
’With so many of us, how can we not handle one little girl?!’
Jason Langdon’s eyes narrowed. He dashed into another hospital room, grabbed a thick quilt, and charged straight for Vera Xavier.
’Jason Langdon had it all planned out. Even if Vera Xavier had a watermelon knife, it could only be so sharp. One slash might not even cut through the quilt. As long as he could wrap the quilt around the knife in her hand, overpowering her would be simple.’
But while his plan was sound, Vera Xavier wasn’t playing his game. As he charged, she blew a whistle, retreated directly into the hospital room, and bolted the door from the inside.
Furious, Jason Langdon cursed, "You cunning bitch!"
There was a small observation window on the hospital room door for doctors and nurses, with a pane of glass in the middle.
Jason Langdon punched through the glass, intending to reach in and undo the latch. Vera Xavier took the back of her knife and slammed it down hard on his arm, making him howl in pain.
Just then, the sound of footsteps echoed from down the hallway, and someone shouted, "There they are! Get them!"
"They owe me money and won’t pay up! Beat the shit out of them!"
Before Rona Langdon and her group could even react, about a dozen thugs rushed in from both ends of the hallway, swinging clubs and descending upon them.
When a club struck Rona Langdon’s back, she was about to unleash her usual shrewish tactics—wailing, rolling on the ground, and cursing—but these people weren’t falling for it. Before she could even start yelling, she was struck several more times.
A horrified Patricia Thompson started screaming, "Who are you people? What gives you the right to hit us! Is there no law and order anymore?!"
The two groups of thugs converged, making it look like they were fighting each other, but in reality, all their clubs were landing squarely on the Langdon family.
Just a moment ago, the Langdon family had seemed so imposing while bullying Vera Xavier. But faced with a group of thugs armed with weapons, every last one of them turned into a sniveling coward.
