The Langdons were all beaten to the ground, each one of them howling in agony. The young punks hadn’t held back in the slightest; they were incredibly vicious.

Patricia Thompson’s head was split open, and Jason Langdon’s hand was broken—he’d never be able to slaughter pigs again in his life. Rona Langdon’s two older sisters and their husbands also sustained various injuries.

The onlooking patients and their families had all been worried sick for Vera Xavier, assuming she was in for a terrible disaster. They never expected such a sudden turn of events.

They all hid in their hospital rooms, peering out through the glass panes on the doors. Although they hadn’t quite figured out what was happening, they felt that Vera Xavier’s filial piety had moved the heavens, which had then sent this group of people to deal with those scumbags from the Langdon family.

Watching from the sidelines, they found it inexplicably satisfying!

The commotion had been so huge that someone had already called the police back when the Langdon family surrounded Vera Xavier to beat her up.

When the Langdons were beaten to the ground and unable to move, the police arrived. Surprisingly, the young punks didn’t even run; they just stood there, shouting for the Langdon family to pay back the money they owed.

Because their actions were suspected of being a group brawl, every member of the Langdon family, along with the young punks, were all taken to the police station after their wounds were given a cursory treatment.

Vera Xavier watched this scene unfold from behind the door, a cold glint in her eyes. ’This is all just the beginning. I won’t let Rona Langdon off the hook.’

Zachary Preston called out from the bed, "Vera..."

Once Vera confirmed that the Langdons had all been taken away by the police, she turned and saw Zachary Preston’s face streaked with tears. She rushed to his side and asked, "Dad, are you hurting somewhere?"

Zachary Preston shook his head. "I’m... fine. This has been... hard on you!"

Vera Xavier quickly used a handkerchief to wipe the tears from his eyes. Looking at him, she said, "Dad, I’m your daughter. Don’t say things like that. You have to believe in me—I will take good care of you. And you have to believe in yourself, too. You’re going to get better!"

Zachary Preston hummed softly in agreement, then said slowly, "I want to divorce your mother!"

Those were the words Vera Xavier had been waiting to hear. She said softly, "A woman like her doesn’t deserve you. From now on, it’ll just be the two of us, and we’ll live a good life. We’ll make them regret this!"

Zachary Preston looked at her delicate yet determined face, his eyes filled with relief. He sighed and said, "You don’t have to... worry. Once I’ve... recovered, I’ll be able to... work again."

Vera Xavier nodded. "Okay! I’ll be waiting for you to get all better, go back to work, and earn money to support me!"

Hearing her say that, Zachary Preston’s heart, which had been filled with despair, was rekindled with a fighting spirit. ’I have to get better as soon as possible,’ he resolved. ’I can’t be a burden to my wonderful daughter.’

The father and daughter shared a smile.

Just then, her grandfather and grandmother came rushing over. Seeing the floor littered with shards of glass, they were scared to death and began knocking frantically on the door.

After Vera Xavier opened the door, her grandparents let out a huge sigh of relief once they confirmed she and her father were unharmed. As it turned out, they had seen the entire Langdon clan, covered in blood, being led away by the police as they were entering the hospital, and they knew something must have happened.

Her grandmother asked suspiciously, "What happened here just now?"

Vera Xavier briefly explained the situation. Her grandmother gritted her teeth in fury. "Rona Langdon is simply inhuman, bringing a fight all the way to the hospital! It’s a good thing you two are alright, or I would’ve skinned them alive!"

The thought of what could have happened was terrifying, and it made her grandmother’s heart grow completely cold toward the Langdon family.
