The First Legendary Beast Master
Chapter 1732: Faster Than Expected
The team managed to catch up just before the golems charged directly onto the platform where Cerberus was standing.
The bears took the position of Karl and Thor, drawing the boss’ attention, and letting them turn him away from the group so that Oathbreaker could do as much damage as possible.
With the whole team in place, the damage stacked quickly, and the Elders were beginning to notice that something was off with their damage.
They were all in a group for the Dungeon, so [Rampage] affected everyone, and they had been moving faster than usual this run, so the damage done in the last minute was higher than the previous run.
It was increasing with their focus and the extra mana that they were putting into their attacks.
Last run, they had paced themselves for maintenance. This time, they were going all out to kill everything as fast as possible. The speed was enough to give Elder Alix a bit of hope for their future, as the boss was already visible losing health.
Cerberus turned to the group, intending to give them a triple dose of flame breath out of annoyance with their battle tactics.
Thor created a curved [Bulwark] around the boss’ head, deflecting the flames harmlessly to the side, where they only did minimal damage to the golems that were gathered in melee range behind the boss.
Tian groaned as he suddenly had to do a lot more healing than expected.
He had gotten used to the bears, which took so little damage, and this was the first real healing that he had to do.
This was almost like work.
Dana gave the little fox a pointed look as he silently grumbled about doing his job, and Tian began adding extra notes to his [Inspiration] tune, trying to drown out her mental chastisement.
Nobody was going to die, he was healing more than enough for that, and Leo didn’t have to step in with [Rejuvenation] to assist.
Cerberus was not going to simply go down that easily.
Instead of letting Thor block his mouth again, he turned and bit down on three of the golems, before dousing them in flames.
That was much more effective, even if it greatly limited the area of effect.
However, his flame breath couldn’t be used constantly, it took time to prepare it again. So, he had to let the golems go to defend himself properly. That was an annoyance, as they kept switching positions, which was making it difficult for the three headed demonic dog to focus down any of the targets.
With the constant incoming healing, it only took a few seconds before the majority of the damage that he had done to be recovered.
Cerberus fought valiantly right to the last second, but the result was as predicted.
{Iron Man Bonus In Effect} Rewards will be granted upon completion.
The constructs and summoned creatures immediately moved on to clear a path through the snakes and the bears, making their way to the final boss.
The same as last time, they were recovering before joining the fight. But unlike last time, they were remaining behind the group so that they didn’t get ambushed by snakes and delayed in reaching the boss due to burning more mana.
"Do we have a timer?" Elder Kushal asked as they walked through the woods, regaining energy for the final push.
"Hawk, what’s the timer?"
He was the only one moving high enough that he could see the System notification in the middle of the dungeon.
[Sixteen five three. Five four. Five five.]
"Just about seventeen minutes now. We’re well ahead of schedule." Karl informed the Elder.
"Perfect. Alright, let’s get straight onto the boss. Having all those fire damage golems is a huge benefit." Elder Alix decided.
Karl mentally calculated what it was going to take them to do the boss.
If they could keep their speed up, and immediately re-enter the dungeon, they might actually be able to get almost all of a third run completed before they ran out of the bonus from the Iron Man award.
That was enough to push everyone to try just a little bit harder, working to get the boss down before the twenty-minute mark so that they could hope for that elusive third full clear.
It was an insane thought, four completions of the same dungeon in one day.
But the rewards for it were bound to be spectacular, even if it was only going to let them know just how good after they were finished the run.
The bear almost looked confused, looking at two identical clones of himself, so similar that they even had his distinctive marking.
It had to be strange, seeing an enemy coming for you, only to realize that you were leading them yourself.
And not just one of you.
Confusion turned to panic, which turned to rage as the bear desperately fought against the clones of itself that were inexplicably stronger than it was.
Karl had enough buffs that even though the base level was still lower, the final outcome was a stronger Spirit Bear Tyrant than the original had been. Once Karl got into the Ascended Ranks, there wasn’t much that would be able to stop a summoned beast that was so durable.
"Nineteen minutes thirty seconds. Let’s return to the door and claim our loot." Elder Socrate announced as the boss finally fell.
Everyone was a bit more energetic as they jogged toward the portal, casting occasional glances over their shoulder.
{Run Complete} Reset to run multiple times within the allotted time?
"YES!" Cara and Rae shouted at the same time.
All three Elders began to laugh. They had completely expected that result, both from the flying chaos gremlin, and the blood obsessed giant spider.
Even if the Elders left, those two would push for Karl and Dana to remain to keep doing the runs.
"Alright, a quick snack while the Golems start clearing out pigs." Elder Alix agreed as the few remaining corpses visible in the distance vanished, and a whole new set of dungeon monsters appeared.
"We need to do this more often. Running multiple times without leaving is so much better." Remi decided.
Now, she just had to wait to see what sort of shiny new trinkets they got.
