The First Legendary Beast Master
Chapter 1738: The Dumb Is Spreading
With Dana immersed in her work, Remi and Socrate spent the next half hour immersed in their search for new knowledge, but only found a few books that they didn’t already have in their possession.
They brought them to the counter to purchase them anyhow, and were given a duplicate from the storage room, while the display copy was placed in a cart, to be returned to its shelf.
That was a curious process to Remi. But it wasn’t difficult to understand.
The Library books were for reading in the Library, and if you needed to keep one, you bought a duplicate that the Librarians had made.
That way the shelves stayed full, and everyone could come here to research.
With their purchases made, the pair went to wait by the writing section for Dana to finish what she was doing, and to check out a few of the Romance titles, in case there was something Opal would appreciate.
{Someone’s about to do something dumb.} Remi noted as she watched a group of warriors enter the Library with their eyes scanning the room.
They pushed right past the Librarians, who immediately called for guards.
But the guards from the local forces wouldn’t get here in time to protect their Library from the oncoming confrontation. So, they would have to focus on keeping the books safe.
It wasn’t common for attacks to happen in the Library, but it did sometimes happen, and it was clear that it would happen here today as well.
They were marching right through the Library, knowing where they were going before they had arrived. But it was only when Remi realized that they were headed for the writing section, did she realize that Dana was the target of today’s daily dose of the dumb.
Elder Socrate, motioned for her to remain silent. The Naga was almost certain to make things worse, as there was a good chance that someone would think she was a juvenile and attempt to abduct her as a bonus. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
The Lycan had realized the same thing that Remi had, and he also moved to the side of the writing area, a few rows back and out of sight.
If they were going to try to steal the book that he had purchased, he would not let them have their way.
But if this was a personal grudge between the two, he wouldn’t interfere with someone else’s fight. Dana was an exceptional craftswoman, but she was still a stranger, not a friend, not a member of his Clan.
Plus, she had an Elder with her from her own Clan.
Dana put the freshly created Skill Book into her inventory, and stood to face the group that was coming her way.
"That’s her. Grab the crafter."
The Lycan sighed. That was what he was afraid of. They had heard from someone in the Library that there was a particularly skilled crafter present. And because she was not a threatening looking person, they decided to go ahead and do something dumb.
He needed that skill book.
His older daughter was about to awaken her Class, and she had a huge affinity for all things magical, a rarity for Lycans. At least, when the magic wasn’t related to melee combat or shamanistic nature magic.
"I don’t think that this is going to go the way that you were planning." Dana noted.
"Oh? How about you just come quietly, and we won’t have to smash up this shitty little bookstore," the lead warrior suggested.
His gaze went from Dana’s feet to her chest, where it stopped with a lustful leer that made her shudder.
"[Do you need me to take care of that?]" Karl asked, hearing her thoughts.
"[No, I’ve got it. I just don’t want to break the Library too badly.]"
"[If you go silent, I’m coming over.]"
Dana called out the [Spirit Bear Tyrant], but shrunk it to the point that it looked more like an extra fluffy dog.
The warriors laughed, thinking that her defensive Golem was a bit of a joke.
But the Lycan recognized it immediately.
You could shrink it, but the aura and appearance of the Spirit Bear Tyrant were unmistakable. He didn’t know how she got it as a summoned creature, but he was absolutely certain that it was real.
And that these idiot warriors were about to get absolutely wrecked.
"Don’t say that I didn’t warn you." Dana informed them, before calling on her pair of Oathbreakers as [Epic Golems], and adding her [Epic Guard]. That gave her three agility-based Obsession Demons, plus the Spirit Bear.
Now, it was a six on five battle, not counting Remi and Socrate, and the Library was rapidly emptying, despite the best efforts of the Librarians to convince people to stay and keep barriers up on the bookshelves.
Remi and Socrate had done that, but Remi had a better idea.
"[Opal, we need you over here. Prepare an Illusionary Domain with Reality Warp. Ooh, can you use Pet Space? That would be perfect, we can just move the fight entirely out of the Library.]"
Opal cheered as she realized that there was not only the potential for entertainment, but an unexpected opportunity to leave behind some of her finer literature in the Romance section while everyone was distracted.
Dana’s smile at the Fae’s excitement unnerved the warriors, who had been under the impression that their status as Ascended Immortals and their numbers alone would be enough to convince the fox girl to come with them.
It was not normal for someone to simply fight back in the middle of the city when they were outranked and outnumbered.
They couldn’t afford to wait any longer, though.
Soon, Elders from the local Clans would be here to break up the fight, and they needed a solid claim on the fox first. Once they had her in their custody, they could say whatever they wanted, and the Elders would accept it unless someone with power questioned them.
They didn’t consider Socrate to be that person, he wasn’t even as strong as they were. And, there was one of him to five of them.
But the moment that Opal arrived, things began to go sideways for their abduction plan.
