The First Legendary Beast Master
Chapter 1787: First Customer
The front door swung open, and a young woman at near Peak Immortal ducked inside the store.
"Oh, I do hope that you’re open. My best outfit got torn, and I’ve got a meeting to get to in the New Home compound. I heard there is a portal from here. Can you fix my dress?"
"Our first customer! Go ahead, Meisje."
"If you can show me the item, I am sure that I can repair it for you. I am still young, but my skills are more than sufficient for repairs. I am the apprentice of the proprietress of this place."
The Immortal looked relieved, and handed Meisje a tattered black dress.
A moment ago, it was most likely covered in blood, but the System cleaned items when you put them through your inventory, unless you didn’t want it to.
"Oh, this took a lot of damage. Alright, we can fix that. Priestess, can you give her a touch of healing while she waits?"
The counter clerk smiled as she watched the young mage settle into her assigned role.
It was good to have competent people.
The Immortal looked shocked when the healing spell washed over her, taking away all the lingering damage, as well as some of the old injuries that she had struggled to find a potion that could cleanse.
"Meisje will be just a moment, would you like to see some of our alternate options? We have a fine selection of black dresses upstairs," the clerk offered.
The Immortal did a double take as a silk clad wood elf came down the stairs to escort her.
This place was too strange, and she got the feeling that there were only three living people here, while the others were something else. Not quite undead, perhaps constructs? Summoned beings on a high enough level felt different from truly living people, as the soul was synthetic, and lacked that spark of divinity that others had.
"Of course. I could always use a spare dress."
Rae followed them upstairs to ensure that the sales manners of her staff were up to par, leaving Meisje to panic as she tried to use her skills for the first time.
[Mend Item] was a basic ability that came with the [Divine Tailoring] crafting skill, but she had never actually used it.
First, she laid the dress out on the counter, then flipped it over to check the back.
Fortunately, that was fine. All the damage was to the front.
So, she turned it back and activated the skill, then watched as the torn sections wove themselves back together. It wasn’t flawless, as there were some gemstone decorations missing that she didn’t have a replacement for. But other than that small flaw, nobody would ever know that the dress had been torn to shreds a few seconds ago.
"Here, I’ve got you covered. I will get Rae to give you the [Earth Manipulation] skill to make nonmagical gems and trim pieces." Opal whispered.
A second application of the spell had the dress back to perfection, with identically matched stones.
"Perfect. Now, we wait for her to finish shopping. Just fold that and put it in one of the bags. I know everyone has inventory, but the bags are essential swag, and they advertise the shop."
That was brilliant. You couldn’t just hand people gifts in a formal setting. You needed to wrap them. So, a gift bag was just the thing to finish the order.
The sound of an excited scream from upstairs made Opal laugh, and she grabbed Meisje’s finger to drag the girl upstairs to watch their first customer. The dress would be safe on the counter with the Priestess present, even if more customers came in.
Meisje sighed as she watched one of the gargoyles shimmy out of her dress and begin modelling lingerie for the customer, who was holding up dresses to compare them.
The gargoyle had adjusted her size to perfectly match the customer, so she could see how it would all look on her own body. A little touch that Opal was very proud of.
Making adjustable Gargoyles was not easy.
"It’s all very PG. The gargoyles are not anatomically correct. No naughty bits equal no nudity complaints."
Again, Meisje was certain that was not a thing.
However, the way that it enhanced the shopping experience was incredible. Instead of changing a dozen times, the shopper could just hand things to the clerk. Then, the clerk made itself look like her, and modelled the outfit.
"Alright, I need these two, and the three sets of lingerie. Then that pair of strappy sandals.
I don’t suppose that you have a contact that can make those wonderful Gargoyles, do you? That level of convenience is too good to pass up."
The Priestess working the upper floor shrugged helplessly. "I do know the creator. Unfortunately, the magic that creates them is not easily portable. It’s too large of a spell combination to put on a small item, it’s imbued into the building itself."
The customer sighed. "Well, that is unfortunate. Still, I have made a great discovery today. When did this shop open? I don’t remember the Hyperion Sect having anything like this."
"The Hyperion Sect was disbanded, after their Guild Master was killed in combat against the Darklight Host and the New Home Merchant Clan. The victors have taken over the territory, and we have just set up the shop in the last ten minutes. The Clan is still in the process of moving in, and that’s why we have a portal directly to the Clan compound."
"Oh, so the rumours were correct. I understand now. I thought that the Hyperion Sect had been subjugated after the battle, but they’re gone entirely."
Rae shrugged. "The bunnies are with the Darklight Host now, and the lone survivor of the Sect who didn’t flee has been inducted into the New Home."
"Well, it’s good to see that there is still some mercy left in the world. That is a precious resource these days."
Rae nodded. "Yes, it does tend to be in short supply. Now, I don’t suppose you know who attacked you, and why? If there is a threat to the region, it would be best if we knew in advance."
The Immortal smiled. "They are no longer a threat. Just a group of bandits. Wandering Immortals, in more polite terms. They won’t be threatening anyone again. It was just unfortunate that they ambushed me while I was already dressed up.
How long do you think my dress will be? If needed, I can come back later. These dresses will do just fine for the event."
Meisje smiled. "It’s all finished. I’ve repaired it as good as new, and it’s waiting at the front counter for you when you’re done shopping. Compliments of the house for our valued customers."
