The Last Vampire God
Chapter 44: Rewrite [1]
The pain I experience goes on for quite some time before I finally black out.
"Dante are you hungry?" Mom’s voice echoes.
I sit up and immediately realize that I’m in my bed now, almost like I never left the manor behind in the first place. The sun is lightly shining through my window and everything is in one piece.
Is this what Aziel was talking about with seeing things? This feels like a little bit more than just seeing things. I’m in my old home with my mother calling my voice in the distance.
This is definitely not the same thing.
I get out of my bed and quickly make my way over to grab some clothes before heading out of my room. Everything is exactly as it was.
After a few moments I make my way down to the kitchen where my mother is making something for us. It appears to be something special today, is it a birthday?
"Your father got some special blood for today since it is your brother’s birthday," Mom says while moving around in the kitchen.
Birthday’s are a bit different for vampires since we don’t really have a limit to our age. We celebrate every 20 or so years to keep it from being a repetitive thing... Otherwise we’d be celebrating every year for centuries.
Not that my mother would mind since she loves doing these celebrations for us. But this is an odd experience to be going through after this whole "rewrite".
I’ll have some more questions for Aziel after this is done.
"Time really goes by. Which one is this?" I ask while letting out a yawn.
"His 30th year," Mom answers.
Every 30? Odd how I didn’t remember that in the slightest.
I guess it makes sense since everything kind of disappeared after the manor went up in flames. I tried to block it all out.
No matter what I do though, these memories end up reappearing regardless of what I want or not. It also makes me miss my family more since most of them are dead.
Lukas is alive, but Dad is still a fifty fifty since there is no definite proof. The hunters spoke of him and Lukas but only recently saw Lukas still.
It tells me that either Dad is in hiding or he is dead after all.
"Dante? Are you even paying attention to what I’m saying?" Mom asks while standing in front of me.
I wipe my eyes to make sure this is definitely fake and it doesn’t seem to be going away in the slightest. It just makes me feel like I’m stuck inside a dream.
Footsteps come from behind me before I hear another familiar voice.
"I told you that you didn’t have to do anything special mom," Lukas speaks up with a casual tone.
I turn my head slightly to look back towards him.
"Huh, you changed up your hair a bit," Lukas says while looking at me.
"I was going to point it out too, but it is nice," Mom chimes in with a small chuckle.
The rewrite is happening right now, that’s why I’m going through this again. Memories are coming out because I am dealing with the rewrite of my body.
I never had this hairstyle back when I lived in the manor so it makes sense why my brain is trying to cope.
Instead of giving a response to them, I leave the room and head back to my bedroom. I begin to look around since nothing seems to be the same here.
After a bit of looking I can’t find a single thing inside of the room. Nothing else is different in here which means it is just my appearance that changed.
"I told you this would be part of the process," Aziel’s voice echoes.
Without any hesitation I begin to look around for any sign of him since he is the way to get back.
Where could he possibly be? I need to get back to the void or whatever the hell that place is. Being here is not the answer to anything and is just making me feel like shit.
"Aziel where the hell are you?" I question while continuing to search.
CRUMBLE!!!!!
The walls break in front of me as he comes out from behind it.
"I take it you are ready to come back?" Aziel responds with his own question.
"Yes," I answer immediately.
He extends his hand out for me to take, a small smile across his face. Without really giving it too much thought, I take his hand and the manor disappears in seconds.
I open my eyes to see the sight of the void once again. Aziel is sitting back on his throne with the same smirk on his face from before.
"The manor never changes. I’m sorry that you ended up seeing it as part of the rewrite process," Aziel says with a genuine tone.
"It is fine. I can handle it but is it over?" I ask with a curious tone.
The pain no longer seems to be flowing throughout my body anymore so it feels safe to assume as much.
"The body part is definitely done but there’s a lot I have to show you before you go back as well," Aziel responds while standing up from his throne.
"Like what?" I question.
"The power portion of the rewrite is still going on and I need to make sure you don’t lose anything you had before," Aziel answers with more of a serious tone.
It is possible to lose power I had before this? I didn’t really think about that much before since it didn’t come up. He never mentioned that it was a possibility before I started to go through everything.
Would I still have activated the artifact if I knew this was a risk? That’s a question I don’t even have an answer to.
"So what do I need to do?" I ask with a serious tone as well.
"We will test everything out as it is going on now," Aziel responds while lifting his hands.
He is now in a fighting position so this will be interesting.
