The People's God: Sacrificing Trillions to Ascend
Chapter 796 - 16.3 Billion Lives
Han Wu landed one, two, three, then a hundred strikes in rapid succession. When he finally stopped, Huang Shengjun lay reduced to a pool of mangled flesh.
Han Wu could clearly tell that Huang Shengjun was dead. Yet even after his death, the Nine-Eyed Evil God’s barrier didn’t break.
Han Wu frowned. What’s going on? Huang Shengjun is clearly dead.
As Han Wu stared at the barrier in confusion, Huang Shengjun’s corpse twitched. The shattered flesh and bones restored themselves in an instant. The black blade emerged from his hand again, and he thrust it at Han Wu without hesitation.
Han Wu sensed the movement the moment he closed in. He stepped aside nimbly, found an opening, and drove another heavy punch into Huang Shengjun’s skull. Less than five seconds later, the crushed skull repaired itself, and Huang Shengjun rose again.
The bizarre sight made Han Wu wonder whether Huang Shengjun had acquired an ability similar to his Undying. His own ability was powerful, but each recovery consumed energy. The more severe the injury, the greater the cost.
Surprisingly, Han Wu couldn’t detect any energy loss from Huang Shengjun at all. Every time he died, his energy reset back to full. If this was an ability, then it was far more extreme than anything Han Wu had seen, even his own.
Huang Shengjun saw Han Wu’s expression and smiled with satisfaction. “Confused about how I return from death? I’ll tell you. I gave up all my units and my Divine Talent and traded them to the Nine-Eyed Evil God for an ability that took the lives of all my units and stacked them onto me.
“At present, I have 16,357,998,200 lives inside me. How are you going to kill me? Can you even keep up?”
Han Wu narrowed his eyes. He did not want to believe it, but watching Huang Shengjun revive again and again left little room for doubt. Sixteen billion lives far surpassed his Undying.
Still, Han Wu held one belief. The more powerful an ability, the greater its weakness. He just hadn’t found Huang Shengjun’s weakness yet.
“Come on, then. Kill me ten times, a hundred times, a thousand, even ten thousand times. I don’t care. I only need to kill you once, and you’re finished,” Huang Shengjun growled and charged again. His black blade sent waves of blade aura at Han Wu from unpredictable angles.
Han Wu activated Duel and Undying again and delivered another merciless beating.
“I killed you once, so I can kill you a hundred times, a thousand times. I’ll keep killing you until every single one of those lives is gone!” Han Wu shouted between strikes.
With each kill, his Duel Jurisdiction unsealed a little further. Every punch he landed increased his strength by a fraction. Gradually, he started to treat Huang Shengjun as a training dummy to fully unseal it.
Huang Shengjun died again and again, yet he kept probing for a way to wound Han Wu. They remained locked in an endless stalemate.
At Huang Shengjun’s 153rd death, the barrier cracked open. Much of the credit went to Xu Hai, whose Mind Eye had successfully analyzed and broken down the barrier’s composition.
The moment they entered, Xu Hai and the others found Han Wu pummeling Huang Shengjun. Every strike was brutal, and Huang Shengjun died on the spot.
Xu Hai was about to tell Han Wu to stop, but in the next instant, Huang Shengjun revived.
As soon as Huang Shengjun realized that the barrier was broken, he turned to flee without a word. Several World life forms who had come to rescue Han Wu launched a combined attack and killed him on the spot. An instant later, he revived again and continued to flee.
The Origin of Mutation watched with burning eyes. Wasn’t something that couldn’t be killed outright the perfect research subject? It immediately told Han Wu to capture Huang Shengjun alive.
With the barrier broken, all nine sealed abilities returned to Han Wu at once, and his power was fully restored. He didn’t move. Instead, he summoned the Pressure Ring and pointed from a distance. Enormous pressure pinned Huang Shengjun in place.
The Origin of Mutation rushed forward, retrieved a special sedative from its spatial storage—one effective even on World life forms—and injected it into Huang Shengjun. The latter went limp immediately.
Han Wu locked him inside his Microcosm and told the Origin of Mutation to experiment on him without restraint. After all, Huang Shengjun had 16.3 billion lives. Death was the least of his concerns.
With Huang Shengjun dealt with, Xu Hai turned to Han Wu, and his eyes went wide. “Han Wu! You’re back!”
His Mind Eye had already confirmed it. Han Wu’s abilities were all intact. His true body had returned.
Han Wu nodded. “Sir, none of this would have been possible without your support during that time. I returned from the Divine Weapon Civilization with substantial gains.”
After merging into one, the memories of his avatars had flowed into his mind, and he learned of everything that had happened.
Xu Hai smiled warmly. “No need to be so formal. Anything your teacher does for you is simply what should be done. Let’s not stay here. We should head back to the command room.”
The group teleported back. Every Wealth Faction supporter sensed Han Wu’s aura and stared in astonishment. Is he stronger than before? It has only been one day, and he has grown this much? What happened? 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Commerce and Jia Gui stepped forward and pressed him for answers.
Han Wu didn’t explain. Instead, he produced an incomplete Divine Jurisdiction, held it out to Jia Gui, and said, “Jia Gui, this incomplete Divine Jurisdiction is excellent. I took it from a Major God of the Slaughter Faction. Interested?”
Jia Gui studied it and sensed the energy within. It was Discord, one of the well-known side branches under the War Jurisdiction. It was also stronger than a minor Divine Jurisdiction. Cultivating it would require considerable resources.
Jia Gui was not a fighter by nature. After some thought, he declined. Discord was too advanced, and he couldn’t afford the cost of developing it.
Meanwhile, the God Kings of the Wealth Faction showed great interest in Discord. They had already ascended and had no personal use for an incomplete Discord, but they had descendants. Keeping it for the next generation was exactly the kind of long-term investment they valued. If a Discord God King ever emerged from their families, it would be a cause for celebration.
With multiple bids from the God Kings, Han Wu closed the sale at four Microcosms.
The transaction had barely concluded when Xu Hai sensed a disturbance. At the boundary between the two factions’ territories, a massive concentration of war equipment had appeared.
“The Slaughter Faction is making another move!” Xu Hai shouted.
