Top-Tier Female, All Beastmen Want Her
Chapter 38: Magic
The prison cell at the Female Office wasn’t like the ones on TV, covered in blood, hay, and what have you. Instead, it had a neat, white bed, three concrete walls, and a small window that let in some light.
The cell door was made of silvery iron bars, much like a gate.
Jiang Zheyu looked around. ’The only real difference is that it’s tidier, I guess.’
Though it was just as grim and cold.
"Let me go!" Bai Ruo’s shrill voice pierced the air.
Jiang Zheyu instinctively looked out and saw Bai Ruo being escorted in by soldiers in black uniforms. She was then locked in the cell opposite hers.
Bai Ruo looked like a madwoman, pounding on the bars of her cell. She seemed unable to handle the sudden fall from grace. "On what grounds did you take my Light Brain! Let me out of here, now! If you don’t, I’ll make you all regret this when I get out!"
The guards in black paid her no mind and all withdrew.
And so, the cold, empty prison of the Female Office held just two females: Jiang Zheyu and Bai Ruo.
"Jiang Zheyu!" Bai Ruo suddenly spotted Jiang Zheyu across from her, her face twisting in a snarl as she screamed.
The echo in the cellblock was loud, and Bai Ruo’s shriek of her name felt as if it would shatter her eardrums.
Jiang Zheyu silently rubbed her ears. ’What a complete madwoman.’
"This is all your fault!" Bai Ruo glared daggers at Jiang Zheyu. "Are you satisfied now? We’re both done for!"
Jiang Zheyu was speechless.
’Shouldn’t I be the one saying that?’
She couldn’t be bothered with the madwoman anymore, so she slowly walked to the bed, pulled back the covers, and lay down, turning her back to Bai Ruo.
Bai Ruo pounded on her cell door, creating a racket. She glared at the small lump on the opposite bed. "Jiang Zheyu! What’s with that attitude? How can you possibly be in the mood to sleep right now?"
Jiang Zheyu remained silent.
’What else am I supposed to do? I don’t have my Light Brain or any other entertainment. Am I supposed to make small talk with Bai Ruo instead?’
After shouting Jiang Zheyu’s name several times to no response, Bai Ruo gradually fell silent. She still, however, shot vicious glares at Jiang Zheyu’s back from time to time.
Jiang Zheyu thought, ’Huh. My back feels chilly for some reason.’
As evening fell, Bai Ruo noticed some movement from the cell across the way.
Jiang Zheyu sat up with a world-weary expression. ’Oh, right, I almost forgot. I still have a purification task today.’
"Heh, I thought you were going to sleep forever," Bai Ruo sneered.
Jiang Zheyu ignored Bai Ruo. She walked to the bars of her cell, her gaze fixed on the heavy iron gate at the end of the hall. She cleared her throat a few times, then called out, "Guard! I’m hungry! Don’t we get dinner in here?"
The heavy iron gate at the end of the hall soon opened. The young guard walked in, holding a bottle of nutrient solution, which he offered to Jiang Zheyu.
Jiang Zheyu didn’t take the nutrient solution right away. Instead, she gently lifted her gaze to the handsome young man and said in a soft voice, "Sir, how about I show you some Magic?"
The young man gazed into her clear, beautiful, tea-colored eyes and instinctively nodded. A moment later, he realized what he’d done and mentally kicked himself, but he had already agreed to a female’s request. He couldn’t go back on his word.
Jiang Zheyu took the nutrient solution with one hand, and with her other, she quickly grasped the young man’s.
The moment their palms met, the young man’s mind went blank. As he processed what was happening, a flush crept up his face, and he grew flustered, instinctively trying to pull his hand away.
Jiang Zheyu tightened her grip slightly and smiled. Her voice was gentle. "This is all part of the Magic."
The young man froze. He stopped struggling, though his cheeks were now beet red.
"Good. Now, close your eyes with me," came Jiang Zheyu’s clear, sweet voice.
The young man instinctively closed his eyes.
Jiang Zheyu closed her eyes as well, concentrating her spiritual power to enter the young man’s Spiritual Domain.
Within a pure white space was a giant Golden Retriever!
It, too, was entangled in a lot of black qi, though not nearly as much as Su Yan.
Jiang Zheyu’s Spiritual Touch Silk took the form of a stick figure. The moment she entered, the giant Golden Retriever, which was lying on the ground, looked up at her with bright, curious, dark-brown eyes.
She quickly walked over and snatched away several wisps of the black qi—nine in total.
The Golden Retriever’s tail began to wag happily. It brought its head closer and affectionately nuzzled the stick figure.
Jiang Zheyu couldn’t help but smile as the Golden Retriever, now shrunk to the height of her stick-figure form, came over to nuzzle her. She patted the dog’s head, and it stretched out its tongue to lick her stick-figure hand.
She would have liked to play with the Golden Retriever a bit longer, but now was clearly not the time. She gave its head one last pat before leaving the Spiritual Domain.
When Jiang Zheyu opened her eyes, she saw the young man was still standing before her with his eyes closed, his hand gripping hers tightly.
He seemed to be seeking comfort, pressing his body tightly against the bars of the cell, unable to get any closer to her.
"The Magic is over," Jiang Zheyu said, her voice laced with a smile.
The young man opened his eyes, and a sunflower appeared before him.
"Ta-da! This is for you." Jiang Zheyu placed the sunflower, which she had redeemed from her system for one point, into the young man’s palm.
The young man’s heart pounded. He stared dumbly at the sunflower, his gaze shifting from the flower to the girl’s sweet smile. He felt his face grow hotter and his head go fuzzy, as if he were floating.
Jiang Zheyu watched as the young man walked away, clutching the sunflower, his gait stiff and uncoordinated.
Bai Ruo, however, had watched the entire exchange. ’Jiang Zheyu just pulled that sunflower out of her pocket,’ she thought. ’What kind of Magic is that?’
She sneered aloud, "Who carries a flower around with them? What’s wrong with you?"
Jiang Zheyu just smiled. "You’re the one with the real problem."
With that, she went back to her bed and lay down.
Jiang Zheyu had her system block out the stream of angry curses that followed from Bai Ruo.
Only then was she able to get a good night’s sleep.
...
Another beautiful day began.
"Female Jiang Zheyu, time for breakfast." The handsome young guard brought over a nutrient solution, his eyes on the small lump on the bed. He called out to her, but the lump didn’t stir.
He paused, then tapped on the bars. "Female Jiang Zheyu!"
Jiang Zheyu, bleary-eyed, lifted the covers and sat up. A stubborn tuft of hair stuck out from her head. She slowly got out of bed, took the nutrient solution from the young man’s hand, and downed it in one gulp. "Thanks," she mumbled, placing the empty bottle back in his hand before slowly shuffling back to bed and pulling the covers over herself.
The young man stood there in a daze for a moment, the tips of his ears turning slightly red. ’She was so cute just now,’ he thought.
"Tsk..." Bai Ruo let out a cold sneer.
The sound snapped the young man back to his senses. He hurriedly offered the other bottle of nutrient solution to the female in the other cell. "Female Bai Ruo, this is your nutrient solution."
Bai Ruo didn’t reach out for the bottle. Instead, she asked, "Have my mother and father come to see me?"
"No, they haven’t," the young man replied, shaking his head.
