Top-Tier Female, All Beastmen Want Her
Chapter 39: Culpability
Bai Ruo frowned and was about to ask another question, but the guard simply placed the nutrient solution on the ground and left.
"You..." Bai Ruo’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Seeing the guard leave, she could only kick the door in frustration. "Damn it! Why are you so nice to that idiot Jiang Zheyu, but treat me like this?!"
Unable to take her anger out on the guard, she turned her temper on Jiang Zheyu in the opposite cell.
"Jiang Zheyu!" Bai Ruo slammed her hands against the cell door. "I command you! Get up! You’re not allowed to ignore me!"
Jiang Zheyu: ...
’System, block Bai Ruo’s voice,’ Jiang Zheyu casually told the system in her mind.
"Of course, Host," the system replied.
「Three days passed.」
For the past three days, Jiang Zheyu had performed the same Magic trick for the young, golden-haired guard, successfully exchanging three sunflowers for 30 points of dark energy.
Her advancement panel updated accordingly:
Name: Jiang Zheyu
Gender: Female
Current Spiritual Power Value: S (70/3000)
Points: 34
Over these three days, Bai Ruo was utterly and completely ignored by Jiang Zheyu.
Bai Ruo had never been so thoroughly ignored in her life!
The only reason Jiang Zheyu could ignore Bai Ruo so completely was thanks to the system’s sound-blocking function. Although she couldn’t hear a word Bai Ruo was saying, judging by her frenzied state, she imagined the insults must be pretty foul.
’If I could actually hear her,’ she thought, ’I probably wouldn’t be able to stop myself from cursing right back.’
One day, a line of soldiers in black military uniforms filed into the cell block.
Feng Qi led the way. As the tall, imposing man stepped inside, the prison cell instantly felt small and cramped.
He shot Jiang Zheyu a cold glance before stopping in front of Bai Ruo’s cell.
"Hmph. Are you finally letting me out?" Bai Ruo said, folding her arms haughtily across her chest. "Too bad. I don’t feel like leaving anymore."
Feng Qi’s sharp brows quirked in amusement. "According to the newest Star Citizen laws, you have violated Article 103, which prohibits the wanton abuse of a Beast Husband and the killing of Beastmen. Originally, you were to be sent to a Female Comfort Station. However, given your status as a female with B++ spiritual power, you will instead be escorted to the Military Tower for lifelong service. You will not be permitted to leave."
The difference between the Military Tower and the Female Comfort Station was that the former served soldiers in the military, while the latter was for all males across the interstellar.
Hearing this, Bai Ruo froze, her expression one of utter disbelief.
In Bai Ruo’s eyes, there was no fundamental difference between the two.
A female entering the Military Tower was tantamount to becoming a military prostitute.
"What are you talking about?" Bai Ruo glared at Feng Qi. "My father is a founding Elder, and my mother is a noble B+++-ranked female! They would never let me be sent to the Military Tower."
Feng Qi ignored the fury in her eyes, speaking nonchalantly, "To set an example, your father, Elder Bai, also voted in favor of passing Article 103 of the Star Citizen laws."
The implication was that he had also agreed to the punishment Bai Ruo was to receive.
Bai Ruo’s face instantly turned deathly pale, completely drained of color.
Feng Qi gave a signal with his eyes, and the soldiers behind him entered the cell and hauled Bai Ruo away.
From her cell, Jiang Zheyu had heard every word of the exchange.
So when the pair of tall black boots stopped in front of her cell, Jiang Zheyu was already prepared to face her judgment.
’System, I’m going to the Military Tower. Aren’t you happy for me?’ Jiang Zheyu communicated with the system in her mind, her voice filled with utter resignation.
System: ...
"Female Jiang Zheyu," Feng Qi’s nonchalant voice drawled.
Jiang Zheyu looked up at him and gave a slight nod. "Yes?"
’Just get it over with. What’s my punishment?’
’I can accept anything!’
"These are your crimes: colluding with other females to abuse and kill Beastmen. However, due to your minimal direct involvement, your offense is considered minor. You are not the primary culprit, and as you are only a female with C-rank spiritual power, the victims only demand compensation and an apology." Feng Qi spoke slowly, pulling out a thick stack of papers and handing them to Jiang Zheyu. "You are required to pay all the amounts listed here, apologize to these Beastmen, and also bear the costs of their subsequent needs—some require medical fees, some child support, some pensions, and so on."
Jiang Zheyu felt a dagger plunge into her heart.
’What is happening?’ she despaired. ’I had just earned enough to pay off my 2.5 billion debt, and now another mountain of it falls from the sky. And on top of that, I’ve suddenly got the old, the injured, and the young to support!’
"Doesn’t Bai Ruo have to pay compensation?" Jiang Zheyu asked quietly.
"Of course she does." Feng Qi simply stared at her face for a moment.
Hearing this, Jiang Zheyu felt a wave of relief. At least, compared to Bai Ruo, she would be free.
’Bai Ruo is going to be permanently confined to the Military Tower. She can’t go anywhere and has to do nothing but service the soldiers. That’s no different from a life sentence in prison.’
’All I have to deal with is supporting the old, the injured, and the young.’
’And those are problems that can be solved with money!’
Jiang Zheyu was just about to breathe a sigh of relief.
"There is one more crime," Feng Qi added slowly, his eyes fixed on the young woman before him.
Jiang Zheyu: ...
’How can there be another one?’
"The crime of livestreaming fraud," Feng Qi said, his expression unreadable as he watched her.
Jiang Zheyu froze. ’My livestreaming is considered fraud?’
"There’s no such crime. Don’t listen to his nonsense." Su Yan walked in from outside, drawing everyone’s attention.
With a calm expression, he walked over, took Jiang Zheyu’s hand, and led her out.
Jiang Zheyu was holding the stack of papers with one hand. Su Yan took them from her, his other hand still holding hers.
Su Yan gave Feng Qi a brief, indifferent nod. "We’re leaving."
"Mm," Feng Qi replied just as casually.
And just like that, Jiang Zheyu was led away from the Female Office by Su Yan, still in a bit of a daze.
Feng Qi stood rooted to the spot, watching Su Yan lead the female away. ’He really seems to be protecting her,’ he mused.
A moment later, he glanced down at his Light Brain. There, in his friends list, was a female named Yu Yu.
A closer look revealed that his own nickname was simply: Q.
"How is it not livestreaming fraud?" Feng Qi murmured, his expression unreadable.
If Jiang Zheyu were to check her top ten supporters list, she would find that her number three ranked supporter was named Q.
A supporter known simply as "Q."
"Su Yan," Jiang Zheyu began, looking at the calm, red-eyed, red-haired young man walking beside her and holding her hand. "When they asked you if your Female Master abused you, you didn’t admit that I did, did you?"
’They must have questioned the people involved when they were gathering evidence,’ Jiang Zheyu guessed.
Otherwise, Feng Qi would have charged her with the crime of abusing her own Beast Husband.
Su Yan glanced sideways at her, then turned and pulled her into a one-armed hug. He rested his chin on the top of her head and murmured, "Don’t overthink it. From now on, we’ll live a good life together."
"Okay." Touched, Jiang Zheyu wrapped her arms around him in return, resting her head against his chest.
