Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work
Chapter 295: Jealousy
The workers’ hospital of the food factory would only have family members of factory workers admitted. By inquiring, the specific address of Mrs. Zhu and Zhu Yuting can be found. Without evidence, not much can be done to them, but they can be quietly taught a lesson.
While Yi Roujing was at home during her postpartum confinement, she heard Xu Ancheng mention this matter and only then learned that Zhu Yuting had taken a severe beating at her in-laws’ house, presumably with some nudging from Shen Su and her in-laws.
Xu Ancheng also lent a hand, after all, the actions of Mrs. Zhu and her daughter frightened Yi Roujing so much that she had been watching their son closely, going over him carefully from head to toe frequently, putting almost all of her focus on him, leaving Xu Ancheng feeling neglected.
Other than taking care of necessities, Yi Roujing solved the rest of her matters while in bed, even basic needs, without leaving the room. However, seeing how the baby changed a little each day, Yi Roujing didn’t find it boring at all.
After a week of feeding, the baby had already become much fairer, looking very different from the reddish mouse-like appearance at birth, much more pleasing to the eye.
When Xu Ancheng entered the room carrying food, what he saw was Yi Roujing holding their son and smothering him with kisses, feeling a bit sour. "Your mouth doesn’t hurt?"
Yi Roujing looked up, noticing the dissatisfaction and grievance in Xu Ancheng’s eyes, and immediately thought of last night’s scene. She was feeding the baby when he wanted to have a taste too. Afraid that there wasn’t enough for the baby, she refused, which resulted in him kissing her breathlessly. When he wanted to kiss more, she had said her mouth hurt, and now he was waiting for her to respond.
"What did Mom make for us to eat?" Yi Roujing skillfully changed the topic.
Though feeling a bit sour, Xu Ancheng couldn’t stand seeing his wife hungry, so he placed the carp soup, liver congee, and jujube soup on the small table and fed them one by one to Yi Roujing.
"I can eat by myself. You can help me by holding the bowl or the baby," Yi Roujing said after being fed two mouthfuls of congee.
"Not allowing kisses, and now not feeding either?" Xu Ancheng raised an eyebrow and looked at Yi Roujing.
Yi Roujing laughed, holding the baby with one hand and pinching Xu Ancheng’s chin with the other before giving him a peck. The person in front of her immediately broke into a wide grin, "Smart of you."
"How are you clingier than your son?" Yi Roujing teased with amusement.
"This little guy has only been born for ten days, so guess how neglected I feel. Nowadays, everything is about him, and I don’t even know where I stand. If I don’t fight for attention, I might just fall out of favor," Xu Ancheng complained.
"Hahaha," Yi Roujing laughed and pulled him close for several more pecks.
Seeing Yi Roujing regain her spirits, Xu Ancheng felt a weight lift off his chest. Watching his wife finish all three bowls of soups and broths, he took the dishes out. When he returned, he took over the task of soothing the baby to sleep.
"Pfft—"
Yi Roujing, watching as Xu Ancheng had just taken their son in his arms, lowered his head in laughter. Truly like a biological son; Xu Ancheng felt a warm sensation on his palm, immediately putting the baby down on the bed, then fetching a basin, filling it with hot water, and getting a diaper ready to clean up his son.
"Wah wah wah—"
Being just a bit too slow, the baby began to cry.
"I don’t know who he’s like; obviously, he’s a rough little boy, yet can’t stand a bit of dirt," Xu Ancheng laughed while saying.
"Hm, you’re cleaner than most people. If not like you, then who?" Yi Roujing responded, lying back contentedly watching Xu Ancheng busily changing diapers, a task she couldn’t quite manage, caring for the baby post-birth was either handled by Li Hongying or Xu Ancheng, providing Yi Roujing the peace she enjoyed.
"Darling, you’re really wonderful." Watching Xu Ancheng intently changing diapers, a tenderness filled Yi Roujing’s heart, and she couldn’t help but express it.
Hearing the term of endearment, Xu Ancheng immediately raised his head, eyes brimming with warmth. It was the first time he’d heard his wife call him that way, "Keep calling me that, I love hearing it."
Blushing under his gaze, Yi Roujing cast a playful glare at him.
After being bathed and dressed with fresh diapers, and nursing a bit more, the baby soon fell asleep.
Xu Ancheng placed the baby in the cradle in the room, covered him with a blanket, and then went out to prepare things for Yi Roujing’s wash-up.
During confinement, one mustn’t touch cold water. Yi Roujing’s water for brushing her teeth and washing her face was heated to just the right temperature. Xu Ancheng was responsible for fetching and changing the water every day. The saying goes, ’Queen for ten months, Empress Dowager for one month,’ and Yi Roujing suddenly felt that this description of pregnancy and postnatal confinement was really fitting.
Before sleep, Xu Ancheng brought in a bowl of herbal medicine prescribed by Mr. Chu, aimed at clearing postpartum discharge, promoting blood circulation and removing stasis without affecting milk supply, which had its benefits; Yi Roujing had been drinking a bowl every night before bed these days.
"By the way, has Dad chosen the name?" Yi Roujing asked as she handed over the empty bowl to Xu Ancheng after finishing the medicine.
"Not yet, he’s being very thorough about it. But he should be calling soon in the next couple of days," Xu Ancheng replied.
"What about a nickname?" Yi Roujing pursued, considering that the child had been born for ten days and didn’t yet have either a formal or a pet name, so she could only call him son or baby each day.
"Here, pick one." Xu Ancheng pulled out a red piece of paper from his pocket, which was filled with a long list of nicknames like: Baozi, Rou Rou, Zhu Zhu, Baby, Zan Zan...
"Dad, Mom, Anguo, and Anmin all offered their suggestions. Which one do you like?" Xu Ancheng asked with a smile.
"Baozi," Yi Roujing concluded, having looked through them all, she still found the first one, Baozi, to be the most pleasant sounding.
"Mom came up with that one." Xu Ancheng replied, "Are you sure about it?"
Yi Roujing nodded, "Doesn’t his little face look just like a white and tender baozi?"
"Just wait and see how happy Mom will be when she finds out tomorrow."
During confinement, things were most lively when visitors came. The Yi Family were the first to arrive, with Liu Huilan bringing a pair of silver bracelets and a longevity lock for Baozi; Yi Roujing’s three sisters-in-law brought clothes and diapers made from fine cotton for the baby.
The Huang Family, Dai Family, and Feng Family each sent gifts, a lot of food and daily necessities. For the near future, Yi Roujing wouldn’t have to worry about formula, and Baozi wouldn’t need to worry about clothing.
The Xu Family, Zheng Family, Zhou Family, and Hu Family, among others, sent parcels, practically filling Yi Roujing’s room to the brim.
When the baby was half a month old, he began to look more and more like Xu Ancheng. As Li Hongying said, he was the spitting image of Ancheng as a child. Actually, from the moment that the boy opened his eyes, his moist peach blossom eyes looked exactly like Xu Ancheng’s. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
On the twelfth day after birth, Baozi finally received his formal name: Xu Muyi.
Xu Zongyin had thought long and hard for his grandson’s name, writing out many on several sheets of paper, but in the end, he settled on this one. After all, it symbolizes the love between Xu Ancheng and Yi Roujing, conventional but not cliché, and as soon as these three characters were uttered, Xu Zongyin felt all the others were just settling.
When he told Xu Ancheng this name, from the joyful tone of his speech, Xu Zongyin felt his son’s liking for it. Telling Yi Roujing and the rest of the family, their cheers, teasing, and envy showed through their voices, and Yi Roujing was also very satisfied, so the name was settled like that.
Ever since the start of last year, Xu Zongyin hadn’t stopped. Given the tense situation in Jing City, he didn’t let the Xu Family visit, nor did he plan on going himself.
