Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work
Chapter 296: About Children
April 30th, Baozi’s full moon. Li Hongying got up early to prepare. They weren’t planning a big banquet for the occasion, but close friends and family were invited over, especially those who had visited before.
Although Hu Heping and Yuan Xiangyu didn’t come, they each sent gifts for Baozi. Hu Heping even packed up some of her son’s baby clothes and sent a large package to Yi Roujing.
Hu Ailing arrived with Lou Wenjian’s support. Seeing their demeanor as they entered, Yi Roujing smiled and reached out to give Hu Ailing a pulse check.
With her experience, Hu Ailing obediently raised her hand, smiling as she watched Yi Roujing.
"You’re pregnant, probably two months along," Yi Roujing said with a smile.
"Yes, I got confirmation at the hospital yesterday," Hu Ailing gently placed a hand on her stomach, a motherly tenderness on her face. "I will take good care of this child."
"Don’t worry, I’m here," Lou Wenjian said beside her. "As for work... maybe you could wait until three months before going back?"
Lou Wenjian wasn’t the type of man who believed in dominating women. He supported women having careers, which is why he spent time teaching Hu Ailing to read and do arithmetic. With distance education and night schools not recruiting, learning new skills relied entirely on personal effort, and Lou Wenjian acted as the teacher.
Hu Ailing could work as an accountant for a factory or teach at a primary school. The Lou Family had previously secured a job for her as a math teacher at Huaixi Primary School.
Lou Wenjian realized that Hu Ailing was quicker with numbers than with text and learned better that way.
"Is it okay?" Hu Ailing was a bit worried, as she wanted to wait until the fetus was stable before working.
"Yes," Lou Wenjian nodded in agreement.
"Roujing, show us your child. The one you had with Mr. Xu, must be beautiful by now, right?" When Yi Roujing had just given birth, Hu Ailing had come over with gifts. At that time, Baozi was still red and wrinkled.
"Yes," Yi Roujing’s smile deepened when talking about her child, and she led the two to see Baozi, who was sleeping soundly after being fed. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Wow, so fair and tender, really adorable."
"His nickname is Baozi," Yi Roujing said.
"What’s his full name?"
"Xu Muyi," Yi Roujing answered with a hint of shyness. Initially, she thought the name sounded nice and had a good meaning, but uttering it herself always brought a hint of embarrassment.
Lou Wenjian raised an eyebrow, "Did Mr. Xu choose it?"
"My father-in-law picked it," Yi Roujing replied.
"That must be to cater to Mr. Xu’s preferences," Lou Wenjian stated pointedly.
Hu Ailing was slightly puzzled at first but, after listening to their conversation, quietly asked, "Is it the ’admire’ in admiration, and your name has the ’Yi’?"
Yi Roujing’s face turned slightly red, and Hu Ailing saw through it, "Mr. Xu is truly devoted to you."
For the full moon celebration, Li Hongying prepared two tables. The Yi Family, the Feng Family, and the Huang Family all came. Everyone took turns holding the baby, and upon hearing that both Hu Ailing and Ding Anmin were pregnant, they congratulated them jokingly, "Hold Baozi more often, and maybe you’ll have a baby boy next."
Ding Anguo, who was not overly rigid in his ways, had just married and was savoring the joys of sharing a bed with Feng Lishu. On this rare joyous day, his wife seemed somewhat reserved, and he noticed a subtle sense of loss in her eyes as she watched the smiling, blushing faces of Hu Ailing and Ding Anmin. Suddenly, it clicked for him.
After the guests had left and they had finished washing up and returned to their room, Ding Anguo pulled Feng Lishu onto the bed.
Feng Lishu’s face turned red. Although they had been intimate, she still couldn’t help but feel shy. But once they were on the bed, Ding Anguo just held her without making any moves, and she was momentarily confused.
"Shall we talk?" Ding Anguo suggested with a playful kiss to Feng Lishu.
"Talk about what?" Feng Lishu asked, a little nervous.
"Do you like me, or do you like the idea of having a child more?" Ding Anguo asked.
"Huh?" Feng Lishu was stunned. "We don’t have a child yet. Why are you asking this now?"
"During dinner, I noticed you were envious. Big Sis had Baozi, Anmin and Ailing are pregnant, and you seemed a bit disappointed," Ding Anguo explained.
Feng Lishu lowered her head slightly. She hadn’t realized that Ding Anguo had noticed.
"We’ve only been married for a month and a half, forty-five days, and we haven’t been very close yet. You wouldn’t really want to have a child right now, would you? A little one would change things between us," Ding Anguo said.
"Smooch—" Ding Anguo began kissing Feng Lishu, from her forehead to her nose, cheeks, and lips, all the while remarking, "When we have a child, I might not be able to kiss you whenever I want because you’d be focused on the child instead."
"My brother has been quite jealous lately, even of his own son," Ding Anguo laughed. "I can tell he regrets having Big Sis pregnant and giving birth so soon."
"So while we don’t have a child, let’s enjoy our time together. Devote yourself entirely to me," Ding Anguo whispered, his voice husky.
Feng Lishu’s face turned crimson, and her eyes were filled with joyous tears about to spill over. "Okay, Ding Anguo, I really like you."
"I do too," and Ding Anguo responded with more than just words, there was passionate movement.
With Baozi’s full moon, the happiest person might just be Xu Ancheng. After the baby fell asleep, he pestered Yi Roujing, "I asked Mr. Chu, and he advised waiting forty-five days before resuming, so starting tonight for half a month."
Since Yi Roujing’s pregnancy, her body had undergone some changes. What needed to fill out had become rounder and fuller.
"I haven’t lost my waistline yet," Yi Roujing said, looking over herself. Although she didn’t have stretch marks, her stomach was still a circle larger than before pregnancy.
"Isn’t this helping you?" Xu Ancheng massaged her. "With enough massages, the weight will come off."
During her pregnancy, Yi Roujing had been gently convinced by Xu Ancheng, and now there was no way to refuse, so she had to go along with his intentions, knowing she could still rest for a while.
The next day, the two brothers, satisfied, met and saw the contentment on each other’s faces, sharing an unspoken understanding.
After the full moon, Baozi became more and more fun. Besides crying, he started to make some cooing noises, incredibly cute, drooling, playing with his little feet, looking at you with his eyes, and occasionally laughing out loud.
By three months, Baozi could turn over, and this was the time to start keeping a close eye.
When Baozi was six months old, Yi Roujing knew that the changes to come were inevitable.
