Venerable Demon Chef
Chapter 116 - 114: Judging Mo Qi
The great cauldron appeared as quickly as it vanished.
Not even Yun Xuzi and Zhang Shao could see clearly what had happened.
The black-robed, cloaked figure had jabbed a finger at the cauldron, but not only did it fail to leave the slightest mark, the impact sent a sharp pain jolting through his finger bone.
With that interruption, Liu Hui snapped out of his daze, his consciousness returning to his body.
He violently broke free from the black-robed figure’s grasp and quickly retreated.
"My Lord, is that you?"
Liu Hui looked around, his voice filled with pleasant surprise.
Others might not recognize that great cauldron, but how could he not?
That was Mo Qi’s cauldron!
"He tells you to attack, so you attack? Are you stupid?"
Mo Qi walked in from outside the grand hall, with Liu Ruyan and Niu Kexin in tow.
Zhang Shao’s pupils contracted violently. He was all too familiar with Mo Qi’s face.
His only son, Zhang Cheng, had died at his hands!
Resentment, pain, and fury surged through him. Zhang Shao wished he could just slap Mo Qi to death right then and there.
But in the end, he restrained himself.
’There will be plenty of time for that,’ he thought. ’I’ll take Mo Qi back to the Wolf Fang Sect and make him suffer every torture known to man. I’ll have his soul eternally suppressed in the Beast Cave, to endure a fate worse than death.’
Only then would his heart find some solace.
The moment the black-robed, cloaked figure saw Mo Qi, his body trembled violently.
Beneath the robe, two points of dim light flickered rapidly like will-o’-the-wisps, emanating a thick, murderous intent.
Mo Qi ignored Zhang Shao, and he ignored the black-robed figure as well.
He walked straight over to Jin Sanpang.
"Brother Mo..."
Seeing Mo Qi, Jin Sanpang was like a wronged child seeing his parents. His nose tingled, and tears streamed down his face.
"Don’t cry, San Pang. Brother Mo will heal you right now," Mo Qi said with a smile, wiping away Jin Sanpang’s tears.
He cut his fingertip and dripped a drop of his blood onto Jin Sanpang’s wound, then gestured for him to rest off to the side.
Jin Sanpang obediently moved aside, his eyes fixed on Mo Qi, as if afraid he would suddenly disappear.
Mo Qi then walked over to Liu Hui and gave him a sharp rap on the head.
"Quite the tough guy, aren’t you?"
Liu Hui winced and clutched his forehead, saying aggrievedly, "My Lord, I... I was doing it for San Pang."
"Yes, you were doing it for San Pang, but do you have a brain?" Mo Qi said, exasperated. "Where are we? The Void Sect! Since when is it the Wolf Fang Sect’s place to run their mouths here? With so many Elders present, what need was there for you to act all high and mighty?"
Mo Qi was glad he hadn’t delayed after leaving the Secret Realm and had come straight to the grand hall.
If he had been even half a second later, Liu Hui would have been a corpse.
"But San Pang..." Liu Hui started to say that Jin Sanpang was from the Wolf Fang Sect, but Mo Qi cut him off.
"Didn’t San Pang say he was a disciple of the Void Sect?"
"He did, but..."
"Then there are no ’buts’!" Mo Qi turned, his gaze sweeping over Yun Xuzi and the others.
"May I ask the Sect Leader, is this how you protect the disciples of your Sect?"
Before Yun Xuzi could speak, Wang Xinglong spoke up first. "Insolence! Mo Qi, how dare you speak to the Sect Leader like that! This is insubordination!"
"That’s right!" another Elder chimed in. "Besides, that fatty’s father is the Steward Leader of the Wolf Fang Sect. How could he possibly be a disciple of our Void Sect?"
"Mo Qi, you’ve grown far too audacious! You’re abusing your status as a Core Disciple to act recklessly, daring to bring just anyone into the Sect. You’re utterly lawless!"
"Do you have any idea what kind of catastrophe you’ve brought upon the Sect?!" Ji Lin also rebuked him. "The Wolf Fang Sect and the Mountain and Sea Empire are both here to demand an explanation, and it’s all because of you!"
"You must bear the consequences for your own mistakes!"
Numerous Elders spoke up one after another, expressing their extreme dissatisfaction with Mo Qi.
When braving the Void Road, the more talented an individual, the deeper they would go, the greater the benefits they would receive, and thus, the longer it would take.
For Mo Qi to have emerged from the Secret Realm so quickly meant his talent was utterly abysmal.
Therefore, returning to the outcome of the initial judgment, Mo Qi did not possess the strength to kill Diao Qing and Qi Tian in self-defense, and should rightfully be sentenced.
Now, handing him over to the Wolf Fang Sect and the Mountain and Sea Empire was the most suitable solution.
"Hey, now that Mo Qi is out, shouldn’t you fulfill your promise?" Zhang Shao interrupted the Elders’ discussion. He was already impatient to deal with Mo Qi.
Yun Xuzi’s face was grim as he looked at Mo Qi. "Mo Qi, did you or did you not kill Zhang Cheng, son of the Wolf Fang Sect’s Sect Leader?"
Mo Qi nodded. "Zhang Cheng did indeed die by my hand."
"And in Nanyang City, did you kill the City Lord, Zhang He?"
"Yes."
"Good. Since Mo Qi has confessed to these crimes without reservation, the Elder Council may now pass judgment." Yun Xuzi nodded to the various Elders.
"Mo Qi’s crimes are heinous. I propose that we hand him over to the Wolf Fang Sect and the Mountain and Sea Empire to be dealt with as they see fit, so that he may atone for his sins!" Ji Lin was the first to speak.
"I second the motion!" Wang Xinglong glanced at Mo Qi, his heart filled with reluctance. He was still obsessed with Mo Qi’s secrets.
"I second the motion!"
"I second the motion!"
...
With the exception of a few who abstained, nearly all the Elders agreed with Ji Lin’s proposal.
Yang Ming and Yu Liang exchanged a look, both seeing the shock in the other’s eyes.
They were only just learning of this matter now, and it was already too late to speak up for Mo Qi.
Mo Qi’s brow furrowed. He had learned from Liu Ruyan and Niu Kexin that the Wolf Fang Sect had come looking for trouble.
He had guessed that Zhang Shao was here for revenge, but he never imagined that the Void Sect would make such a decision.
Killing Zhang Cheng in the Earth-level Spiritual Ore was clearly an act of great merit.
But not only had the Void Sect not bothered to ask for the reasons, they were now ready to hand him over to the Wolf Fang Sect just to appease Zhang Shao’s anger.
’How utterly laughable!’
Thinking about it this way, it was no wonder Zhang Shao dared to be so arrogant within the Void Sect.
If Mo Qi had merely lost his sense of belonging to the Void Sect before, now, he was utterly and completely disappointed.
"Mo Qi, are you going to come with me willingly, or do I have to get rough?" Zhang Shao asked with a cold sneer.
Liu Hui and Jin Sanpang immediately moved to stand in front of Mo Qi. Though they said nothing, their actions spoke volumes: they would stand and fall with him.
Niu Kexin hugged Mo Qi’s arm tightly, her eyes filled with determination.
Liu Ruyan discreetly crushed a Jade Talisman, her eyes turning icy as she looked at Yun Xuzi and the others.
Yang Ming and Yu Liang also stepped forward, flanking Mo Qi to protect him.
Mo Qi’s heart warmed, but at the same time, he didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
’Do you all think I’m an eggshell? That I’ll shatter at the slightest touch?’
’I’m really strong, you know!’
’Besides, this time, I’ve got someone powerful watching my back!’
"Whoever dares to touch Master Mo makes an enemy of this old man!"
Just then, a powerful but unstable aura flew in from outside the grand hall.
"Qin Feng?!"
All the upper echelons of the Void Sect, including Yun Xuzi, were stunned by the newcomer.
Qin Feng, a veteran Elder of the Void Sect, once possessed a Peak Vajra Realm Cultivation. His lifespan had been nearing its end, with only a few years left to live.
But now, the aura emanating from Qin Feng was clearly that of the Early-stage Void Realm, and even his appearance had changed from that of a withered old man to a middle-aged one.
