Chapter 1040: In a Bad Mood
As she finished speaking, someone lightly knocked on her forehead: "Scarlett, isn’t it a bit inappropriate to talk about your grandfather like this? You say he’s cunning and treacherous, huh?"
"It’s not like I’m the original author of this," Scarlett Yates lifted her small face, looking innocent and unjustly accused. "This is how his rivals describe him, and besides, your grandfather is indeed very sly, isn’t he just like a fox."
Sly and treacherous, presenting one face publicly and another in private, always welcoming with a smile, yet hiding a knife behind it.
In front of Matthew Saxon, he acted as if he liked her very much, affectionately calling her "girl" with warmth and kindness in his voice.
But as soon as Matthew Saxon wasn’t looking, he pressured her to leave.
Given their many unpleasant interactions, Scarlett Yates didn’t have any good feelings towards Ian Douglas.
She learned from Matthew Saxon that he seemed to be staying in Z City for a while, though how long was still unclear.
It could be three to five days, three to five months, or even three to five years.
Thinking again about seeing him often, Scarlett Yates felt her mood sour.
However, she thought that once she started working, she would only see him in the morning and evening at most; if she just endures it, it will pass.
"Mind your manners; you can’t talk like this in the future!" Matthew Saxon pretended to be angry, pinching her small face, yet there was a hint of amusement in his eyes.
The two chatted for a while, then looked towards the exit. Before long, Ian Douglas emerged, surrounded by people.
Several tall and strong men protected him like loyal guards; behind him followed Uncle Spencer.
If not for revealing his true age, no one would guess Ian Douglas was already fifty.
Scarlett Yates seemed to see a replica of Matthew Saxon walking towards her, only this version was older and appeared more mature.
Besides the bodyguards, there were people carrying his luggage; just for his luggage, there were three people holding them.
He also brought two maids to serve him closely, and the Douglas Family’s chef joined too; altogether, there were more than ten people.
Ian Douglas seemed oblivious to the concept of being discreet, as he walked out grandly with his entourage.
He wore a black coat and sunglasses, leading at the front with a bit of a mafia boss vibe.
Scarlett Yates thought his outfit very much resembled Michael Hughes from "The Bund," of course, Ian Douglas was a lot more handsome than Michael Hughes.
When Ian Douglas came out, Matthew Saxon led Scarlett Yates to greet him properly, calling, "Grandfather."
Scarlett Yates followed suit, calling, "Old Master Douglas."
As she addressed him this way, Matthew Saxon frowned slightly, turning to glance at her with a hint of dissatisfaction.
Scarlett Yates understood why he was discontent.
He probably felt that since they were about to get married, she should call him grandfather too, rather than the somewhat distant "Old Master Douglas."
Ian Douglas first gave Matthew Saxon a faint "Mm," and when his gaze shifted to Scarlett Yates, it turned much colder; although not very obvious, Scarlett Yates still felt it.
--
An hour later, at the Saxon Family.
Some of the old employees in the Saxon Family were surprised to hear that the grandfather of their Young Master had arrived and would be staying in the Saxon Family for a while.
