After Divorce, She Became a Global Sensation and Won't Forgive Her Groveling Husband and Son
Chapter 27: The Shermans’ Arrogance, All Because Vincent Grant Spoiled Them
Recognizing her voice, a jolt shot through Sophia Shaw’s chest, and it twisted uncomfortably.
Vincent Grant never let anyone touch his phone, not even Cedric Grant!
According to Jack Holloway, his phone contained too much confidential information; an accidental leak could affect a lot of people.
That’s why he was always so careful, his phone never leaving his side.
He’d even take it with him when he showered.
But when it came to Joanna Sherman, everything changed.
’Joanna Sherman can answer his calls as she pleases, and he no longer needs to keep his phone on him at all times, guarding it like he did with me!’
’Vincent Grant placed Joanna Sherman above everything else!’
A wheezing sound escaped her chest, each breath a stab of pain!
Sophia Shaw suppressed the tremor in her heart and forced a calm tone. "Where’s Vincent?"
"He’s feeding the baby."
’Joanna Sherman always knew how to twist the knife, exactly what to say to hurt her the most.’
"He’s in the master bedroom right now. If it’s urgent, I can go get him."
The phrase "master bedroom" made their relationship perfectly clear.
’They aren’t even divorced, and they’re already sleeping together?’
’Vincent really couldn’t wait, could he.’
A sarcastic smile touched Sophia Shaw’s lips. "No need."
While her grandmother slept, Sophia Shaw took care of some work.
Her heart felt as if it were weighed down by a hard, heavy stone.
When her grandmother woke up, she seemed much more energetic.
As they talked, the conversation drifted to the two children.
"Chloe and Bun were born around the same time. Let’s hold their 100-day celebrations together."
"It’s been too long since the Shaw family had something to celebrate. Let’s throw a huge party!"
It was only with her grandmother’s reminder that Sophia Shaw realized Bun was already a hundred days old.
’Time really does fly.’
"What is it? Are you afraid Vincent won’t agree?"
Seeing Sophia Shaw’s silence, her grandmother asked with concern.
Swallowing her bitterness, Sophia Shaw shook her head. "No, he won’t."
’These days, Vincent Grant only has eyes for Joanna Sherman’s child. He probably couldn’t care less about Bun’s 100-day celebration.’
"Vincent hasn’t come to our house in a long time, has he?"
Her grandmother’s mind was a little fuzzy; she couldn’t remember the exact date, only that it felt like a very long time since she had seen Vincent Grant.
The truth was, ever since Vincent Grant moved to the base a year ago, he hadn’t set foot in the Shaw family home.
"Did something happen between you two?"
"No, don’t worry yourself."
Her grandmother didn’t know about Joanna Sherman and Vincent Grant, and Sophia Shaw didn’t want to worry the old woman with her own messy problems.
"Last time he brought Cedric to the house, why didn’t he come inside? Bun is here with us, too. In the past, he would’ve stayed by his side the whole time."
Even though the old woman was a bit muddled, she still remembered certain things.
When Cedric Grant was young, every time he visited the Shaw family home, Vincent Grant would personally accompany him and take care of him, never entrusting the task to anyone else.
Bun had been there for so long, yet he hadn’t even called once.
Her grandmother had just suffered a shock, and Sophia Shaw didn’t want to upset her further. She quickly said, "I was the one who didn’t let him in that day. He had an important meeting to get to. He can’t be expected to skip a meeting for the child, can he?"
"But I made him promise to come see you as soon as he has a free moment."
"Oh, oh, is that so?"
Her grandmother was old. When Sophia Shaw said he would visit when he had time, what she heard was that he would be visiting immediately. She hurried Sophia to contact June Evans and have her buy all of Vincent Grant’s favorite foods.
Sophia Shaw couldn’t argue with her, so she had no choice but to step out while pretending to call June Evans.
After some thought, she decided to send Vincent Grant a text message after all: *Grandma has been hospitalized. She’s at First People’s Hospital.*
The last message in her conversation with Vincent Grant was from a year ago.
Before that, she used to send him caring messages every day.
At first, he would only occasionally reply with a simple "Mm," usually only after she had sent dozens of messages over several consecutive days.
Later, his "Mm" replies became more frequent, and he would even mention something about Cedric Grant now and then.
Seeing their chat history grow more active, she had even started to imagine that the day they could live like a normal married couple was just around the corner.
But then Joanna Sherman suddenly returned.
Everything took a nosedive.
Vincent Grant went back to ignoring her, returning to the phase where she would send dozens of messages only to get a single "Mm" in reply.
Then, the Grant family demanded a second child, using the rocket launch license to force his hand.
For Joanna Sherman’s sake, Vincent Grant slept with her.
He became convinced that she had been part of the scheme. From that day on, he never returned to their marital home, nor did he ever see her again.
’Ha! Vincent Grant only slept with me to fulfill Joanna Sherman’s dream!’
Every time she thought about it, Sophia Shaw found it bitterly ironic.
’It felt like needles pricking my back.’
’Humiliating and agonizing!’
’If I had known that was the method the Grant family was using, I never would have slept with Vincent Grant that night, no matter what!’
Sophia Shaw’s thoughts drifted for a while. It was the smell of cooking from nearby that made her realize June Evans hadn’t returned yet.
The drive from the villa district was only half an hour, but three hours had already passed.
Sophia Shaw quickly called her.
June Evans didn’t pick up the first time.
Sophia Shaw immediately tried again.
This time, the call connected, but the line was filled with a clamor of noise, as if she were on a busy street.
"Aunt June?" Sophia Shaw asked. "Where are you?"
June Evans yelled at someone before answering, "These people are outrageous! It’s not enough that they put someone in the hospital, they’re still here causing trouble!"
"They’re trying to dig up our road! They’re clearly trying to anger your grandmother to death!"
Sophia Shaw’s heart leaped. She gripped her phone tightly. "Don’t lose your cool. Wait for me!"
After hanging up, she returned to the hospital room and told her grandmother that Chloe was clinging to June Evans and wouldn’t let her leave, so she had ordered some gentle stomach-soothing congee for her instead.
After the old woman finished eating, Sophia Shaw made an excuse about going home to get a change of clothes and rushed straight for the villa.
From a long way off, she could see that the road leading to the Shaw family’s villa had been completely torn up.
June Evans was standing at the broken section of the road, in a standoff with a group of people.
The crowd was made up of the Sherman family’s extended relatives, the most conspicuous of whom were Sharon Sherman’s family and Yvonne Sherman’s mother, Patricia Holloway.
Patricia Holloway, throwing her age around, stood with her hands on her hips, her finger nearly poking June Evans in the nose. "You black-hearted woman! You know full well this road is blocking our Sherman family’s feng shui, yet you still dare to get in the way? You’ll die a miserable death!"
"Let me tell you, we’re digging up this road whether you agree to it or not!"
June Evans trembled with rage. "We’ve been using this road without any problems! The family across from us lived here for years and never said a word about feng shui, but now that you people move in, suddenly the feng shui is bad?" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
"If you really dig up this road, how are we supposed to get home?!"
"Aren’t there plenty of roads back there?" Sharon Sherman gestured around nonchalantly.
’Sophia Shaw humiliated me so badly last time. I have to get my revenge!’
The paths she pointed to were winding, belonged to private gardens, and were all blocked by fences and low walls.
A young person would work up a sweat taking those detours; an elderly person couldn’t manage them at all!
"An old woman can’t use those paths. That’s why property management opened up this road. You have elderly people in your family too! Have a heart! Would you make them walk that way?"
Sharon Sherman curled her lip. "Well, it’s not on the blueprints, which means this road is unauthorized. It has to be dug up!"
Selina Zelia chimed in smugly, "That’s right! It’s useless no matter who you call for help!"
Sharon Sherman’s father, the pot-bellied Brian Sherman, grunted, "You’d better scram right now and stop wasting our time. If you won’t move on your own, we’ll drag you away!"
Their arrogance knew no bounds.
The Sherman relatives actually began to get physical, moving to drag June Evans away.
