After Divorce, She Became a Global Sensation and Won't Forgive Her Groveling Husband and Son
Chapter 29: I Did Nothing Wrong, Why Should I Apologize?
Back home, she finally let out her anger, slamming a hand on the table. "Sophia, it’s all thanks to you. If you hadn’t suggested going to court and scared those scumbags, who knows what kind of scene they would have made!"
"Did you see that? The moment those bastards heard we were going to escalate things, every single one of them looked like they’d just eaten shit!"
"A bunch of paper tigers!"
The more cruelly the Shermans had bullied her just now, the more vindicated June Evans felt at this moment.
"Our Faye is still the cleverest. Before you came back, they were bullying me to death. Your uncle really didn’t dote on you for nothing."
Sophia Shaw was nowhere near as excited as June Evans. Seeing her aunt thank her, she could only manage a sad smile.
Wisps of emotion flickered in her eyes. Some things were better left unsaid, but in her heart, she knew the truth better than anyone.
’If it weren’t for me, with my uncle’s capabilities, the Sherman Family would never have dared to trample on the Shaw Family.’
’Marrying the wrong man, Vincent Grant, didn’t just get me six years of a cold marriage.’
’It also dragged down my uncle, aunt, and grandmother.’
Seeing Sophia Shaw looking down, June Evans guessed what she was thinking and patted her shoulder reassuringly. "Don’t overthink it. This has nothing to do with you. Those people are just too vicious!"
"Back then, even though your mother liked that man, she never forced him. And she certainly didn’t know he had been involved with some heiress from the Sherman Family."
"If she had known earlier, if she had known they had a child together, she would never have married that man!"
Sophia Shaw didn’t want to talk about that man and changed the subject. "Anyway, as long as Grandma is okay, that’s all that matters."
"Grandma... all she ever thinks about is her children and grandchildren. She can only be well if we are."
June Evans’s words were pointed.
Sophia Shaw couldn’t say a word.
"You and Vincent Grant..."
"We’re getting a divorce!"
Hearing this, June Evans’s immediate reaction was, "Did Vincent Grant force you?"
Sophia Shaw shook her head.
’Forced or not, what’s the difference?’
’Joanna Sherman is back. No matter how much I grovel, Vincent Grant will never turn back to me.’
’I don’t want to do such degrading things anymore.’
"I’ve only discussed this with Vincent Grant. Aunt June, please don’t tell Uncle or Grandma yet. We’ll tell them after the divorce is finalized."
The Shaw Family was already on shaky ground; Sophia Shaw didn’t want to add to their troubles.
June Evans didn’t want to keep it a secret. She wanted to find Vincent Grant and curse him out for being a scumbag.
She wanted even more to have Yancy Shaw go and beat him up, preferably until the scumbag’s face was black and blue!
But what good would that do?
In the end, if Vincent Grant retaliated, Sophia Shaw would be the one to suffer.
No matter how resentful she felt, all she could do was take a deep breath.
"Your uncle and I are so useless. We can’t even protect our own niece."
"Aunt June, don’t say that! If it weren’t for you and Uncle, I don’t know what would have become of me!"
Sophia Shaw refused to let June Evans put herself down.
"You, Uncle, and Grandma are the best people to me in this world!"
When her mother died suddenly, she was left behind in that house.
That man quickly started a new family with Yvonne Sherman.
On the surface, Yvonne Sherman was polite and gentle to her stepdaughter, but behind the scenes, she indulged Joanna Sherman in bullying her by any means necessary.
The two of them were extremely skilled at it, tormenting her without leaving a single trace of evidence.
First, she was bullied. Later, when Vincent Grant started protecting her, the Sherman mother and daughter deliberately framed her for things.
That man always protected the Sherman mother and daughter, beating her each time without ever asking for an explanation.
He broke countless belts on her, and locking her in a dark room without food or water was a regular occurrence.
If her uncle hadn’t come back and taken her away, she feared she would have long since died at their hands!
For all these years, she had lived with her uncle, receiving his unconditional love, and her grandmother doted on her as well.
Even though June Evans had no official ties to her, she had never taken her anger out on Sophia, but instead joined her grandmother and uncle in treating her well...
’For the rest of her life, she wouldn’t think about anything else. She only wanted to wholeheartedly take care of the people closest to her.’
Worried about her grandmother, Sophia Shaw quickly returned to the hospital.
As she reached the fifth floor, she immediately saw a tall figure standing outside her grandmother’s room.
Vincent Grant!
’Is he here to see Grandma?’
Vincent Grant seemed to have arrived in a hurry, not even wearing a jacket.
His usually cold face carried the aristocratic air of a man forged by high society. His temples were slightly damp with sweat, and his chest was heaving.
’If Grandma sees him, she’ll be so happy!’
A jolt of joy went through Sophia Shaw’s heart, and she strode toward him.
"Vin—"
"Vincent Grant!"
Before Sophia Shaw could get the name out, another voice rang out from behind her.
Vincent Grant didn’t see Sophia, his gaze shifting to the side.
Yvonne Sherman and Joanna Sherman emerged together from a doorway.
Vincent Grant walked over to them. "How is she?"
"Heart disease, high blood pressure!" Yvonne Sherman’s eyes shot toward Sophia Shaw, full of resentment. "It’s all from the stress!"
Only then did Vincent Grant turn his head. His brows furrowed slightly when he saw Sophia Shaw.
"Go keep Grandma company." Joanna Sherman didn’t look at Sophia Shaw. Seemingly annoyed that Yvonne Sherman was talking too much, she pushed her toward the hospital room.
Even the sound of her shoe soles clicking on the floor was cold and aloof.
It was only then that Sophia Shaw understood: Patricia Holloway was also in the hospital.
’So, Vincent Grant isn’t here to see my grandma?’
The flutter of joy in her heart crashed to the floor with a THUD, and the smile on Sophia Shaw’s face faded.
Her grandmother doted on her, and by extension, she doted on Vincent Grant.
She had thought Vincent Grant would have at least a shred of affection for the old woman and show up to pay his respects.
In the end, it was just her wishful thinking.
Vincent Grant looked down at the woman before him, his perpetually cold eyes devoid of warmth. "I heard Old Mrs. Sherman was hospitalized after arguing with you?"
"We argued because the Shermans..."
Before she could get out the four words ’making trouble for nothing’, Vincent Grant cut her off. "Sophia Shaw, go apologize."
Sophia Shaw snapped her head up, her eyes locked on his face.
Backlit, the shadows in the man’s eyes were deep and ruthless. He was always cold to her, but now, because Joanna Sherman’s relative had been wronged, he was even colder.
The central air conditioning overhead felt like it had suddenly been turned down by ten degrees, the chill piercing her bones and her heart.
The cold made Sophia Shaw shiver, but she squared her shoulders, refusing to back down. "I did nothing wrong. Why should I apologize?"
Vincent Grant’s brows, hidden beneath his bangs, knitted even tighter. "Regardless, you should have considered the elderly person’s health."
His expression wasn’t that of someone talking to an adult, but to a petulant, unreasonable child who couldn’t understand reason.
It was impatient and clearly a lecture!
"Her elderly relative is an elder, but mine isn’t?"
Sophia Shaw’s fingers, curled in her palm, clenched so tightly that her nails dug painfully into her skin!
"Vincent Grant, my grandmother is in the hospital too! They were the ones who..."
"I will apologize on your behalf. Don’t let something like this happen a second time!" Vincent Grant still didn’t give her a chance to finish, turning to leave.
Sophia Shaw took a few steps to follow but was blocked by Jack Holloway, who had walked over.
"Madam!"
He called her "Madam," but there wasn’t a trace of respect in his eyes.
Sophia Shaw could only watch helplessly as Vincent Grant walked past her grandmother’s room and entered Patricia Holloway’s.
As he passed, he didn’t even spare a single glance toward her grandmother’s room.
"Ha!" A cold laugh escaped her lips uncontrollably. Sophia Shaw’s chest felt so tight it was about to explode.
’Apologize on her behalf?’
’In Vincent Grant’s heart, she was always the one in the wrong!’
’It was like this six years ago, it was like this a year ago, and it’s still like this now!’
’He doesn’t have a single shred of trust... in her!’
Sophia Shaw squeezed her eyes shut, using all her strength to keep from exploding.
’Forget it.’
’What’s the point of saying more to someone who doesn’t trust you?’
"Please, Assistant Holloway, ask President Grant for me when we can get the paperwork done."
She didn’t want a sullied man, and she certainly couldn’t have a man whose heart wasn’t with her!
