After Divorce, She Became a Global Sensation and Won't Forgive Her Groveling Husband and Son
Chapter 30: It’s Vincent Grant Again
"I think I just heard Vincent Grant’s voice outside. Is he here?"
Her grandmother, who had just woken up, saw Sophia Shaw walk in and peered behind her.
Sophia Shaw forced back the ache in her heart and smiled. "You must have misheard, Grandma. It was just someone asking for directions."
"Oh, I see." Her grandmother sounded a little disappointed.
It wasn’t that she wanted to see Vincent Grant; she was worried there was a problem with his and Sophia Shaw’s relationship.
Of course, Sophia Shaw could tell. She held her grandmother’s hand. "Grandma, don’t worry yourself. Vincent Grant is busy with work abroad, so he can’t rush back right now."
"If you keep thinking about him, I’m going to get jealous!"
"Of course not. I’m not thinking about him. I’m thinking about my dear Faye."
Her grandmother was successfully distracted.
Worried her grandmother might get bored, Sophia Shaw called Ms. Archer and asked her to bring Bun over.
The little girl was adorable, and her grandmother was especially fond of her.
After hanging up, Sophia Shaw started walking back and happened to pass Patricia Holloway’s room.
The door was cracked open.
Joanna Sherman and Vincent Grant were nowhere to be seen; only Yvonne Sherman was in the room with her.
"Mom, don’t you worry. Vincent Grant took care of everything at the hospital personally. He even arranged your admission. You can relax and just focus on getting better here."
Yvonne Sherman sat in a chair, looking utterly smug.
"That’s right, Ma’am. If you feel uncomfortable in any way, just let me know." The hospital director was examining Patricia Holloway himself, grinning the entire time.
’Patricia Holloway’s minor complaint was enough to get the hospital director involved?’
Sophia Shaw was stunned.
Yvonne Sherman certainly didn’t have enough pull to summon a top physician like him.
The only person who could make him pay a personal visit was Vincent Grant.
Sophia Shaw took a deep breath.
She had accepted the reality of the situation long ago and it didn’t hurt as much as it used to. Still, a sharp, uncomfortable ache pierced her chest.
’It would take more time to become completely immune to Vincent Grant.’
"I’m sorry, but you’ll have to move to another floor."
When Sophia Shaw pushed open the door to her grandmother’s room, she was met with a different scene.
A head nurse and two other nurses were packing up her grandmother’s belongings.
"What’s the meaning of this?" Sophia Shaw rushed over and blocked them.
The head nurse saw her and said, "Ah, a family member. Good timing. The rooms on this floor aren’t for regular patients. Please help us move her things downstairs."
"Why didn’t you say so before?"
The head nurse’s eyes darted away for a second. "We just received the notice ourselves."
"It’s better if you move downstairs. You don’t want to violate regulations and create an unpleasant situation."
The head nurse’s words were evasive, but Sophia Shaw understood perfectly.
’It had to be Yvonne Sherman. She saw that Grandma was staying here and did this on purpose!’
’With Vincent Grant backing her, she can do whatever she pleases!’
Her hands trembled as she dialed Vincent Grant’s number.
He hung up immediately.
Undeterred, she called again.
He kept hanging up!
Sophia Shaw felt her heart shatter all over again.
’Vincent Grant was hanging up on her because he knew exactly why she was calling!’
’So he knew everything all along!’
’And yet he chose to turn a blind eye, letting those people hurt her grandmother!’
Sophia Shaw clutched her phone, her knuckles turning white. Her chest felt as if it were being hacked apart by knives and axes. The pain was excruciating.
"Faye..."
Her grandmother’s worried voice brought Sophia Shaw snapping back to reality.
She took a deep breath before she dared to turn, but she couldn’t bring herself to meet her grandmother’s gaze, afraid she would see the raw, bloodshot anger in her eyes that had yet to fade.
"Grandma... let’s just move."
’It wasn’t that she was afraid of Vincent Grant. She was afraid of upsetting her grandmother.’
’No matter how great the injustice, her grandmother’s health came first.’
"Alright. I’ll listen to you, Faye."
「At the company.」
Joanna Sherman leaned lazily against the window, Vincent Grant’s phone in her hand.
Each time a call came in from Sophia Shaw’s number, she declined it.
Her lips were pressed into a thin line. With her wavy hair cascading over her shoulders, she looked as aloof and unapproachable as ever.
Jack Holloway walked in and froze for a second when he saw her holding Vincent Grant’s phone.
’Vincent Grant never let anyone touch his phone.’
"Is there something you need?" Joanna Sherman asked, deleting the record of Sophia Shaw’s call right in front of Jack Holloway.
Jack Holloway saw this. He swallowed the words of warning that were on the tip of his tongue and simply shook his head. "No, nothing."
’He had come to relay a message from Sophia Shaw to Vincent Grant.’
’Something about some paperwork Sophia Shaw had mentioned. It made no sense.’
’It was probably just the adoption papers for that daughter of hers.’
’President Grant even trusts Miss Sherman with his phone now; he clearly keeps no secrets from her. Sophia Shaw’s adoption paperwork is a lost cause.’
’Best not to stir up trouble.’
Jack Holloway inwardly looked down on Sophia Shaw.
He found it ridiculous how she was constantly making a fuss over some adopted daughter.
’Miss Sherman adopts a child, so she has to adopt one too? Who does she think she is!’
’Just her title as Cathan’s first rocket scientist made Miss Sherman untouchable. Even with President Grant’s immense wealth and status, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say he was the one punching above his weight in this relationship.’
’What could Sophia Shaw possibly have to compete with that?’
Jack Holloway had just left when Yvonne Sherman called.
"How’s Grandmother?" Joanna Sherman asked coldly.
"She’s fine. Vincent Grant had the director examine her personally. He said all her indicators are excellent." Yvonne Sherman was in high spirits.
Vincent Grant’s actions had undoubtedly brought great honor to her, to Joanna Sherman, and to the entire Sherman Family.
"Joanna, you have to lock Vincent Grant down this time. Don’t give Sophia Shaw any opening!"
Joanna Sherman scoffed. "Mother, do you really think I, Joanna Sherman, need to debase myself by chasing after a man?"
Yvonne Sherman immediately got the point. "You’re right! You’re Cathan’s first rocket scientist now. Sophia Shaw isn’t even worthy of carrying your shoes. How could she possibly compete with you for Vincent Grant!"
"Vincent Grant was already obsessed with you before. Now, he’s probably terrified of you leaving him, even in his dreams."
"Even his family’s patriarch would have to show you respect! If you agree to be with Vincent Grant, it would be the greatest fortune the Grant Family has ever had!"
...
Sophia Shaw and her grandmother moved downstairs.
The conditions on the lower floor were awful.
It was a shared ward with several patients per room. Family members came and went constantly, and the air was filled with a ceaseless, buzzing drone of conversation.
The stark contrast made Sophia Shaw’s heart ache for her grandmother.
’They had the money for a private room, but because of the Shermans...’
"Maybe we should switch hospitals."
’She hated that she was powerless against Vincent Grant, forcing her grandmother to suffer this indignity along with her.’
"No, don’t. This is fine. It’s perfectly alright here."
Her grandmother quickly shook her head.
"It’s a waste of money to keep moving around for such a minor illness."
Sophia Shaw said nothing.
’She wasn’t worried about the money.’
’But she couldn’t stand being constantly trampled on by the Shermans.’
"Hello, Grandma."
Just as Sophia Shaw was lost in thought, a man’s voice broke the silence.
She turned her head and saw Levin Sawyer walking in, carrying a large flower basket.
Levin Sawyer was tall and long-legged, with handsome features. Having been immersed in high society since childhood, and later pursuing a career that had him building rockets and crossing deserts, he carried himself with a unique air—at once cheerful, steady, and approachable.
Her grandmother paused, confused. "And you are...?"
Sophia Shaw hadn’t expected Levin Sawyer to come either, but she made the introduction. "This is my senior, Levin Sawyer."
"Oh, wonderful." Her grandmother was immediately taken with the tall, handsome young man. "I had no idea Faye’s senior was so good-looking."
Levin Sawyer exchanged a few pleasantries with her grandmother, then took in his surroundings. "Why are you in this ward?"
A shadow fell over Sophia Shaw’s face.
Levin Sawyer pressed his lips together. A look of understanding dawned in his eyes.
Seeing her grandmother about to climb into bed, he quickly went to support her. "Grandma, don’t worry about settling in. I’ll have them move you to another room."
Levin Sawyer made a call, speaking only a few words.
Moments later, the owner of the hospital arrived and personally escorted them up to the sixth floor.
"This is the best suite in our entire hospital. It’s normally reserved for important international dignitaries."
Her grandmother was taken aback when she heard this. "Oh, no, that won’t do at all! An old woman like me can’t possibly stay in such a fancy place."
Sophia Shaw hadn’t expected Levin Sawyer to arrange for such a top-tier suite either, and she hesitated for a moment.
