Apocalypse: Zombie King is the Female Lead's Younger Sister
Chapter 273: Serena’s Scheme
Zerra almost rolled her eyes. Here it comes!
Her injury indeed hadn’t healed. Although they were both zombies, the intelligent zombie was still a powerful opponent. It had torn her skin, leaving a deep gash.
The blood didn’t pour out much of her body because of her zombie constitution that was increasingly becoming apparent after her power increased. The color of her blood also became darker, nearing black.
Even with her wood ability, the wound hadn’t fully healed.
"What did you say, Miss Serena?" The other high-ranking members of the base looked aghast, scrambling away from Zerra as if they had seen a ghost.
Serena had a triumphant look on her face, with a hint of expectation as she stared at Cassias’ figure. Her mind was already imagining Cassias abandoning Zerra after he found out the truth.
"Why don’t you let the base’s doctor check it, Zerra? Do you dare to do it?" Serena asked her arrogantly.
"That’s not a problem." Her mouth twitched. "Call the doctor."
Serena’s expression faltered for a moment before her lips curled up into a sneer. She was sure Zerra was pretending to be calm!
She gestured at the doctor on the door to come inside. Before she came here, she was prepared. Lest Zerra tried to sneak away when they were waiting for the doctor to come.
Cassias still had an impassive look, however, inwardly he knew how Zerra felt...
As such, he didn’t intervene. She would get mad at him for ruining her fun instead if he did.
Zerra was indeed a little excited inside. It was just a pity that she couldn’t treat her parents on this human base. After all, they just needed to stay here for one week at most.
"You can check." She raised her eyebrows.
Even the doctor looked unsure. Zerra didn’t show any signs of turning into a zombie, her eyes were still twinkling like a lively human and her skin... a little pale, but was within acceptable color.
"What are you waiting for?" Serena gestured to him impatiently. "Check her."
Cassias pursed his lips. He suddenly opened his mouth. "I will do it."
He didn’t want anyone touching Zerra’s smooth, jade-like feet. It would make him feel uncomfortable. There was an urge to push the doctor away, and he did exactly that.
The doctor almost stumbled, but luckily Cassias didn’t push him too hard. He was just caught off guard and a little nervous because everyone was staring at him.
He scooted over, giving a way for Cassias.
"Be gentle." Zerra curled up her lips and told Cassias who was crouching down on her feet. From the corner of her eyes, she saw Serena bristling in anger.
Cassias hummed in response. He was the one who had put the bandage on her, so he unwrapped it with some familiarity. Even though he knew the wounds didn’t hurt Zerra, he still did it carefully with his utmost.
The traces of black blood on the thick bandage made everyone sucked in a deep breath.
"You... you are really a zombie!"
It was unknown who shouted the sentence first. However, after they heard that, everyone scrambled away from the two of them further.
"Cassias, be careful! She might turn into a zombie and infect you!" Serena shouted in agitation, her eyes shooting daggers at Zerra.
Zerra merely hummed. Cassias didn’t even pay any attention to her.
Seeing Serena shouting at the young man, the others followed.
"Hiss, why are you still not running away from that zombie?! Do you want to be killed?"
"Miss Serena is right, that woman is a zombie! Luckily, she reminded us. Otherwise..." A few of them shuddered at the consequence.
The doctor also already jumped away, his eyes nearly popping out of their sockets.
"Young man, you should stay away!" He thought about it for a moment and went to grab Cassias, thinking he had been bewitched by the female zombie.
However, no matter how hard he tried to pull him, the man remained unmoved. He even shook his hand. Zerra suddenly grinned, revealing a row of bloody teeth.
The doctor’s deafening screams filled the room, and everyone fell into panic.
"Call the other ability users! Our base has been infiltrated by a zombie!" Everyone shrieked.
Zerra patted Cassias’ shoulder, acting like she had him under her control. Facing her twinkling eyes filled with mischievousness, Cassias just went along. He bandaged her wound again.
After he was done, she turned to the people staring at her in terror and jumped toward them.
Seeing Zerra chasing after the people who had badmouthed her earlier with excitement, he almost couldn’t maintain his impassive face, nearly laughing out loud.
She was like a puppy chasing after her favorite toy.
A while later, Zerra became a little bored. They both left the room to fetch the items in her room and called Mateo and others.
She told them the truth, about the incoming zombie siege and her original intention. "I originally wanted to leave the four of you in this base, but this place does not seem to be that safe anymore."
"Now, I am leaving the choice in your hands, are you going to follow me to the next base or stay here?" She asked seriously. Now, with Cassias around, she already gave the antidote to Mateo and others.
As for Azir, of course he would follow her.
"We will follow you." Mateo instantly decided. Others might not be that perceptive, but he did. Because of Zerra’s hint, they had avoided many dangerous areas.
"Then, I will give you five minutes..."
They hurriedly packed their things. Even though they were confused they didn’t ask. It was until ten minutes later as they hurried to the base gate did they sense something was wrong.
A lot of ability users were coming after them!
Mateo nearly stumbled. What did Zerra and Cassias have done when they met the base leader?!
It looked as if they were running from the base.
Zerra knew that the illusion she cast on the people in that room wasn’t going to last long. Especially with Serena’s hatred; she was bound to chase after her.
"Kill her! She is a zombie!" They unleashed their abilities and aimed their power at her.
Although some ability users were shouting for the people not to hurt the people around Zerra, there were still some stubborn people who wouldn’t listen because of their immense fear.
"Don’t attack the people around her! The female zombie has brainwashed them!"
As the words reached her ears, Zerra’s mouth twitched. She was a little indignant. Still, even though she was a zombie, she never killed innocent people or anyone who never antagonized her first.
Mateo and others were shocked when they heard that, but they still followed after Zerra. The moment he and others attacked, there were no longer shouts about protecting them anymore.
"Don’t hurt Cassias! Don’t hurt the man beside that zombie!" However, Serena was still insisting, not caring whether Cassias knocked their ability users unconscious or not.
Zerra clicked her tongue. "Hmph, your rotten peach blossom."
After she said that, she gave him the back of her head and swung her whip again. In one swing, five or six people were thrown back, laying unconscious.
Last night, she also found out she could communicate with Cassias through her mind. It was such a fantasy world...
And Cassias finally told her he had only been able to revert to his dragon form after the sinkhole incident. Hence, the mind connection now formed because she visited his sea of consciousness.
There seemed to be something odd with his explanation, but she couldn’t put her finger on the specific. Maybe it was because of her fuzzy memories that she had forgotten a lot of things.
With difficulty, the seven of them finally made it out of the base. They used the momentum where there weren’t too many ability users trying to attack them.
If they had stayed any longer, they might also be in trouble. After all, there were only seven of them against the entire base.
Once they left, the base leader, Mr. Davis gathered his people and Serena again.
"What do you think about the female zombie’s warning? Is she actually threatening us by revealing that there will be a zombie siege?" He asked gravely.
"Mr. Davis, I think it’s better to report this to the main base in the capital. That zombie is beyond our power. If she really commands other zombies to attack us..." someone trailed off.
However, at this moment, the doctor suddenly opened his mouth. He actually had been a little skeptical because Zerra was too human-like. As a doctor, he also recently studied about zombie transformation and the symptoms.
Zerra’s case was just too strange.
"Could it be that she is not a zombie at all? If we accuse her without basis..."
Serena cut him off, glaring angrily. "What do you mean by this?! Are you saying that everyone here is wrong? You all clearly saw her blood. It was black!"
Mr. Davis nodded. "Let’s send a team to the capital."
