Chapter 274: Chapter 274: ’Parents’ Met Cassias

Before Mr. Davis could discuss further plans with his fellow base members, they heard a resounding alarm! A sign of dangers!

A wind ability user came tumbling into the room, nearly breaking the door. His face was filled with immense panic.

Before someone could rebuke him, he spoke first in a high-pitched tone, loud and clear. "Mr. Davis, it’s bad!" After a pause to catch his breath, he continued, "We saw tens of thousands of zombies marching to this place!"

"Tens of thousands!" They all jolted in shock.

"How could..."

"Is it the damned zombie’s doing? That woman infiltrated our base..." Mr. Davis muttered. He sprang to his feet, biting his lip and pacing back and forth.

If Zerra were there, she would have rolled her eyes. She would rather sleep than doing such a troublesome thing!

However, the base members didn’t know that the intelligent zombies only dared to march into the base after they sensed that Zerra was gone. After all, their instinct also could detect if anyone was dangerous ever since they had evolved.

One of their kind—an intelligent zombie—had died under Zerra’s hand. They could still find the traces on her.

Once the wind ability user entered the room, another one shot inside.

"Mr. Davis, look what I found!" The person was an ordinary member. She had only exchanged a few words with Zerra, but she had chatted a lot with one of her companions, Azir.

After Zerra and her people left, she found a note. From the language, she knew it was from Zerra! Azir was far more chatty than her, after all.

Zerra had estimated the number of intelligent zombies and their powers, as well as the directions they might come in. On top of that, she included the rough numbers of each wave.

Everyone took the notes and once they read it, they exchanged glances, some astonished, but their faces were equally pale.

She had included a small paragraph at the end of the note: My fiance and I investigated it together before. Whether you all believe it or not, it does not matter.

The doctor weakly lifted his hand again. Everyone turned toward him. He swallowed. He opened his mouth and tried to find suitable words with difficulty.

"Actually, since a lot of people have undergone evolution, Miss Zerra’s condition might be the same. There are some animals which have natural black blood..." he trailed off, his voice getting smaller at the end.

In fact, when Zerra stayed at the base, she rarely came out. Only a few at the base were infected by the zombie virus. If anything, the number of infected people was even less than usual.

The infected people didn’t even come from inside the base, but those who had returned from mission or new people taking refuge.

The doctor knew the statistics because he had taken care of the case. He also told all the people present.

After he was done, the room had gone oddly quiet.

The remaining bodyguard who had survived with Serena suddenly spoke at this moment, retelling his experience when he was fighting with Zerra and Cassias.

He paused for a moment before shaking his head. "I suspect that they might be high-ranking users. Miss Zerra could kill a dozen zombies with a single slash from her whip, and Mr. Cassias... he could handle hundreds of them at once."

Cassias’ lightning ability had increased considerably. Now, he could use his power on the zombies more effectively, cracking the crystal cores in their heads.

Everyone was speechless. However, now it didn’t matter how they regretted driving the small group away, they already left the base.

Serena took in everyone’s gazes and panic seeped inside her heart. Her thin body shook. She was now scared she might die because of the incoming zombie siege...

Of course, the event that had transpired in the room had nothing to do with Zerra and her small group anymore.

Currently, they were resting. Zerra needed to administer the medicine to her parents, so they stopped temporarily after passing the dangerous zone filled with zombies. They were outside of the zombie siege range.

Zerra could feel the movement of zombies, densely-packed and heading to the base they had left. She merely shook her head. The people there were too complacent...

She had done her best by sharing with them the information. Even if their group stayed, they also couldn’t do much. Her zombie control also had a time limit. She would need to replenish her energy repeatedly too.

"We can drink the medicine ourselves, Zee." Her dad shifted into his human form, taking the bowl of potion from his daughter’s hand.

Nerith followed. The graceful woman sat beside her husband and took the bowl he handed over to her with a smile.

They were now inside a tent. Zerra had erected the barriers which would alarm her of any incoming person or danger. She gave another bowl to her dad and watched the two of them drink the bitter medicine.

Nerith’s face scrunched a little, while Alaric didn’t bat an eye. Zerra blinked and gave each of them a candy. Nerith was instantly relieved upon tasting the sweetness.

"How are you feeling?" Zerra asked them nervously. Even though she was the one who refined the potion herself, she was still afraid in case anything went wrong.

"I feel better." Alaric sensed his daughter’s concern. "This time, the human form should last longer."

Zerra was relieved when she heard that. When she turned to her mom, she also said the same thing. Not long after, two of them sat silently, concentrating on absorbing the medicinal properties and the spiritual energy.

They couldn’t waste it. Although their power might not recover as much as Zerra—who have started to munch on crystal cores since the beginning of the apocalypse—they at least regained considerable power. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

Once the two were done, now the family of three started their dinner, munching on some crystal cores.

"Where is the little dragon?" Nerith suddenly remembered another celestial beast should have been there with them.

Zerra blinked, and she found the baby dragon dozing off in her inner space. As soon as he sensed her presence, the little thing pretended to sleep, laying on the green grass.

She poked the baby dragon. He should have felt a breeze passing by, but the little one still closed his eyes, unmoving.

Her eyes twinkled as an idea struck her. The baby tiger who was still playing on the riverside suddenly appeared beside the baby dragon. Confusion etched on its face.

When the baby tiger’s eyes landed on the baby dragon, its eyes widened and it launched itself on him, wetting the scales of the dragon. As the baby tiger jumped on him repeatedly, even Cassias couldn’t pretend anymore.

He opened his eyes, and before he could pretend to yawn, his surroundings had changed. Now, there were three fluffy white foxes in front of him, all staring at him.

Suddenly, he became nervous.

"Auntie, Uncle," he forced out a greeting. His little dragon face morphed into a smile.

"Cassias." Alaric smiled with his foxy face. "It’s been a long time."

"Yes..." Cassias trailed off. "How are you?"

"We are good. Thanks to you who saved us, otherwise..." Alaric shook his head. Even so, there was an unrestrained look on his face, as if the Fox Dad was troubled by something.

"I am glad to hear that, Uncle." Seeing that they didn’t bring up the matter of his engagement with Zerra or the matters of Celestial Realm, Cassias’ nervousness disappeared. "If you still need some medicinal herbs, please just ask me."

Alaric and Nerith exchanged surprised glances. Nerith opened her mouth to ask, "Speaking of space ability... do the two of you awaken them?"

She subconsciously traced the ring Zerra had given to them. The origin of this ring should be something that came from the Celestial Realm.

Zerra was taken aback when she heard that. A worried look crossed her face. "Mom, Dad, you can’t access your inner space yet...?"

Alaric shook his head. "We can’t access it for the time being. There seems to be some kind of force blocking us."

"It should be because of recent memory awakening." Cassias explained. Everyone turned to him. He continued, "The body should take a while to adjust."

Zerra shot him a thoughtful look. If that was the case, she was pretty sure this man must have remembered his real identity before the apocalypse happened. At the same time, she also couldn’t be sure...

She absolutely couldn’t let her parents know what kind of difficult life she had experienced. They might not remember the previous life’s reincarnations or the souls might not be them. She didn’t want them to worry.

As such, she discarded any useless thought at this moment.

So, the meal of three snow-white foxes eating crystal cores with crunching sound had an additional member.

Two weeks later, the matter at the previous base was soon forgotten. There were no more marked bases on the map since they had long passed by them.

They soon found a city.

However, before they arrived there, two people running toward them caught their attention.

"Help! Please help us! There is a monster!"
