Chasing His Ex: The Tycoon's Hidden Twins
Chapter 127 - 124: Jiang Sifan: We Don’t Need Your Compensation
Jiang Sifan walked up to Lu Fan and said calmly, "I just heard from Silu. You brought her to the hospital and even arranged for her to get an IV in a VIP room."
Then, he gave a slight bow. "I’m thanking you on her behalf."
"No need to thank me. It’s what I should do," Lu Fan replied. "I’ve always wanted to make it up to you both."
"No."
Jiang Sifan shook his head and continued in a serious, formal tone, "I’ve been busy starting a business lately, so I’ve been neglecting Silu. I’ll pay more attention to her from now on, so you don’t need to trouble yourself."
"I know what you’re up to. Your goal is to make a good impression on Silu to earn her forgiveness, so you can make it up to her. After all, she’s wanted a father her whole life. But you don’t need to compensate me, and I won’t accept anything from you."
"The only reason I’m thanking you is because I believe in keeping things separate. For this one thing, as Silu’s older brother, I do need to thank you. But don’t expect to use this small favor to get our forgiveness. That’s impossible. If we forgave you over one little thing, it would make a joke of the eighteen years of hardship we’ve endured."
"What was the total cost for Silu’s treatment? I’ll transfer it to you. And I’m staying in her room to watch over her tonight."
Seeing Jiang Sifan had some backbone, Lu Fan turned to Chen He at his side. "Chen He, what was the total for the injection and blood work?"
Chen He came over, checked his phone, and replied, "Including the room fee, the total is 708."
"Give me your payment QR code," Jiang Sifan said.
Chen He glanced at Lu Fan. After seeing his boss nod, he pulled out his phone and brought up his WeChat payment QR code.
Jiang Sifan quickly completed the transfer.
Once that was done, he went back into the hospital room.
Chen He said to Lu Fan, "The young master is rather generous. He sent 800."
"He’s probably made some money with his new business," Lu Fan said with a pleased smile.
Seeing that Lu Fan wasn’t angry and was, in fact, smiling, Chen He asked, "Boss, aren’t you angry about what the young master said?"
"What’s there to be angry about?" Lu Fan chuckled. "On the contrary, if he had just ignored his mother’s and sister’s feelings and brazenly accepted my money, then I would have thought he wasn’t my son."
"As it is now, I think he has real integrity. He’s just like me. I was the same way back then; I wouldn’t bow to anyone for a paltry sum. A man can’t be arrogant, but he must have pride."
He started walking toward the elevators. "Alright, there’s nothing more for us to do here. Let’s go."
Jiang Sifan returned to the hospital room.
When Jiang Silu saw the strange look on her brother’s face, a thought suddenly struck her.
She asked anxiously, "What’s wrong? Did you fight with Dad?"
"No, you’re overthinking it," Jiang Sifan replied. "I just paid him back for the medical bills."
"Okay." Jiang Silu knew her brother’s temperament. Once he set his mind to something, not even eight bulls could pull him back.
Besides, at this point, if she had to choose between her father and her brother, Jiang Silu would choose her brother in a heartbeat.
Just then, Jiang Sifan noticed the laptop by the bed and asked, puzzled, "Is this laptop yours?"
"Mhm," Jiang Silu replied. "Dad originally sent it to you, but when you rejected the package, he left it with me. I even told you I was going to borrow ’your’ laptop to do some drawing."
Jiang Sifan glanced at the brand and was taken aback.
It was an Alienware.
He’d looked them up before; they cost at least ten or twenty thousand.
’To think Lu Fan had been so extravagant with his gifts even back then.’
What Jiang Sifan didn’t know was that Lu Fan had also taken Jiang Silu out for several fine-dining meals and bought her designer clothes.
Of course, Jiang Silu had already sent him pictures when she stayed in the presidential suite of a five-star hotel.
But Jiang Sifan wasn’t the least bit envious.
’The more you accept now, the more you have to weigh the pros and cons later.’
He didn’t, however, demand that Jiang Silu refuse Lu Fan’s goodwill.
’After all, Jiang Silu never had a pampered childhood. It’s a good thing that someone can make it up to her now.’
Jiang Sifan had originally planned to stay in the hospital room all night to watch over his sister.
But Jiang Silu insisted that he take Wen Wan and go back.
In her own words: "Take Sister Wen Wan back to the university. I’m really okay now. I’ll be fine after a good night’s sleep. And if anything does happen, I can just press the button on the headboard, and a nurse will come."
Only after confirming multiple times that she was really alright did Jiang Sifan finally leave with Wen Wan.
On the way back to the university, he didn’t say a word, apparently lost in thought.
Wen Wan sensed his mood and asked cautiously, "Class Rep, what’s wrong?"
Jiang Sifan gave a wry smile. "It’s nothing."
"But I get the feeling you’re not in a good mood," Wen Wan said tentatively. "If something’s upsetting you, Class Rep, you can tell me."
Jiang Sifan hesitated for a moment before finally speaking. "Ever since we were kids, my sister has always come to me first for everything. I’m used to being the one she turns to."
"But now, it feels like my biological father has replaced me. Whenever she needs anything, he’s the one helping and taking care of things. It makes me feel like a useless older brother."
Hearing this, Wen Wan immediately tried to comfort him. "Class Rep, no one can replace you in your sister’s heart."
"Huh, really?" Jiang Sifan asked, still a bit doubtful. "You really think so?"
"While you were out, Silu told me so much about you two," Wen Wan explained. "Reading between the lines, I could tell she absolutely idolizes you. It’s like you’re her rock. Even with your father back, he’s just another person for her to lean on. But in her heart, you’re still her firmest support."
Hearing what Wen Wan said, Jiang Sifan was instantly touched. ’So... so I really am that important in Silu’s heart.’
Wen Wan smiled. "So, you see? Class Rep, you have to become even more exceptional and keep protecting your sister."
"Haha, I will!!"
It was like a shot of adrenaline for Jiang Sifan. A smile spread across his face. "I’m going to work hard, build my business, and make a fortune! I’ll give Mom and my sister a better life, and I’ll do it even without any help from my biological father!!"
Wen Wan was relieved to see his spirits lift.
What she didn’t expect, however, was for Jiang Sifan to add, "And of course, I’m going to make your life better too, Wen Wan!!"
Wen Wan’s face instantly flushed. She wanted to say something, but didn’t know what.
Jiang Sifan laughed and said, "Wen Wan, don’t you go falling in love too quickly. What will we do if your future boyfriend gets jealous from seeing us together all the time?"
Wen Wan replied in a small voice, "Okay... I’ll listen to you... no dating..."
As she spoke, she snuck a peek at Jiang Sifan in the rearview mirror.
After returning to his manor, Lu Fan learned from the hospital that Jiang Sifan and his group had left.
He had wanted to send Jiali to keep Jiang Silu company.
But Jiang Silu stated clearly over the phone that she was feeling much better and didn’t want to bother anyone else.
So, Lu Fan respected her wishes.
But as evening fell,
he went to Lihua Hospital anyway.
Jiang Silu was surprised when she saw Lu Fan. "Didn’t I tell you not to come? I’m fine by myself."
"I was worried you might be scared all alone. I couldn’t relax at home thinking about it, so I decided to come keep you company," Lu Fan said with a smile.
Hearing his words, Jiang Silu couldn’t help but feel a little happy.
Lu Fan first touched her forehead gently with the back of his hand. He breathed a sigh of relief when he felt her fever had mostly gone down.
Something occurred to Jiang Silu, and she quickly asked, "Can you find a mask for me? I’m afraid... I’ll get you sick."
"Don’t worry, your dad’s in great shape," Lu Fan chuckled. "A little germ like this is no match for me."
Seeing that she was still on her laptop, he reminded her, "You need to be resting now. Schoolwork can wait until tomorrow."
"I missed two classes today," Jiang Silu replied. "I just want to look up the lecture material online. It’ll be quick."
Lu Fan was surprised by how dedicated his daughter was to her studies. He took a book out of his own bag and began to read as well.
After Jiang Silu finished reviewing her course material, she looked over at her father, who was absorbed in his book.
’This peaceful scene between father and daughter... it’s just like I always imagined it would be.’
She even found herself thinking, ’If only Mom and my brother were here too. What a perfect picture that would be.’
Jiang Silu then apologized, "About what my brother said to you earlier... please don’t take it to heart. That’s just how he is—very stubborn."
"I think it’s great. He has backbone," Lu Fan affirmed. "With his personality, your brother will be successful no matter what he does."
"His teachers used to say the same thing when we were in school," Jiang Silu recalled fondly. "Back then, I was in the neighboring class, but we had the same math teacher. He would always come to my classroom just to praise my brother, saying how quickly he learned everything."
Seeing his chance, Lu Fan suggested, "Why don’t you tell me some stories about you two growing up? That way, your dad can hear them and feel like I was a part of it."
"Okay."
Jiang Silu then began telling Lu Fan stories from their childhood—about the time she and her brother went fishing at the pond, and the time she was chased by a dog, which resulted in Jiang Sifan getting some serious payback on the vicious animal.
Without realizing it, the father and daughter spent more time together than they ever had before.
As she talked, Jiang Silu grew more and more cheerful, and the distance she felt from Lu Fan seemed to shrink.
Eventually, her eyelids began to feel heavy.
Lu Fan urged her to get some rest.
Soon, Jiang Silu was fast asleep.
He then lay down on the nearby bed. He didn’t sleep, though. Instead, he just watched his daughter’s peaceful, sleeping face.
He even thought, ’How wonderful it would be if this moment could last forever.’
