Chapter 246: 245. Secrets

Shadow Moon Pack

Darren stood in the pack training grounds where most of the warriors were getting ready, doing last-minute intensive training to be prepared and head off to the Blood Moon pack. The people from Ghora had joined them and they would be split into two teams. Some of them would be going to the Blood Moon Pack along with the Alpha while others would be going to the Black Storm Pack should any attack happen there.

After making sure everything was in place and going according to plan, he left. He needed to make sure his mate was alright and ready to leave. As much as he would want her to stay here where it would be difficult for anyone to get to her, she would hate him if he did that or even suggested it.

Reaching the mansion, he found it nearly empty if not for the maids running Corinna gathering things as they prepared to evacuate along with the children and aged members of the pack. Many of them were not trained to fight so hiding was the best option for them and those that can train, keeping them with the others will increase their security.

"Where is your Luna?" he asked, stopping one of them.

The maid stopped and bowed. "Alpha," she said standing up after hearing a hum from him. "Luna left a while ago, I am not sure where she walked off to,"

Darren frowned when he heard that. She should know better not to trust even the people from this pack to stay loyal. What if they did something to her while she was out there alone? She didn’t even take her guards with her. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"What route did she take?" he asked, ready to go look for her and bring her back or keep her company if she needed it.

"She went out through the back," the maid replied and Darren left immediately to start looking for her.

The backyard led into the woods which was big enough to get lost in if you didn’t know your surroundings. She did know her way around it but it was dangerous for her to be there alone at a time like this when war was just outside the door waiting for them.

He tried to reach her through the mind link but he could not reach her which made him panic. It was either she blocked him out which was unlike her or something had happened to her. Right now he prayed it was the first instance even if it was weird for her to block him.

He tried many times again but still got the same result and gave up trying to link with her. I stead he chose the next best option, track her using her scent. Leading his animal instinct to take over, he stuffed the air and caught a wisp of her scent. It was faint but it could lead him to her.

He continued to follow it until he was deep inside the woods and the air was cold which left him wondering what she was doing so deep inside when she should be resting and avoiding harsh temperatures like this. The only good thing here was that her scent easier concentrated here which meant that he was close to her.

Walking a bit further with large and hurried strides he found overcoming but she was not alone. Beside her was Lucy holding her hand as they walked together. He stared at them disapprovingly as he approached them taking Kora’s hand to check his cold it had become.

"Alpha," Lucy said as she stepped aside to give them some space.

"You can go ahead of us, I will care of her from here on," he said and Lucy nodded. There was no need to stick around again. What they wanted to do and talk about had been taken care of staying any long would just be intruding.

"You look angry," Kora said raising her hand to touch the crease on his forehead.

"I wonder whose fault that is," Darren said fantastically though his gaze remained stern on her.

"I didn’t mean to make you worry and angry. I just wanted to take a walk and I was not alone, Lucy was there with me," She said.

"What happened to the mind link?" he asked. Wanting to take a walk had nothing to do with her blocking him off. She should have left it open for him even if she was to block out everyone else.

"I didn’t want you to worry but I still got you worried," She said culling his cheek. She tilted her head to look up at him. "I am sorry."

Darren closed his eyes and drew in a deep breath. His anger was gone but he could not let her out of his sight again. He preferred having Emily around Kora now than having Lucy around her. Emily will argue with her until someone hears them. Most of the time, he was the one to hear them arguing, while Luucy was different, she was silent and did things without talking much especially if the one she was working with was on the same page as her. Had that happened this time or had it been Emily, he would have had an idea of what she came here to do because he knew she didn’t just come here. He was not a fool.

"It is time for us to leave," he said to her and she nodded. The time has come and now all she could do was hope for the best.

"What do you think will be the out one of this? I couldn’t see the end of it," she said and Darren patted the back of her hand.

"It just means we get to decide what the future would be, fate has left this decision in our hands let us make it in our favor," he said and she smiled.

"I won’t allow history to repeat itself," she murmured but knew he heard her, and to confirm that, he stopped and looked at her.

"Kora..." He called but was interrupted.

"It’s nothing," she said but he did not move from where he stood. Since he was holding her hand she had to stand with him.

He looked at her and then his eyes trailed down to her stomach. "You are hiding something from me."
