Chapter 227: In Which She Was A Soulless Monster

[CALINDRA]

"Anyone hungry?" Rania asked her friends so nonchalantly like they were not covered in blood.

They could already smell the burning Calindra warriors and Jihoon felt his heart shatter for the hundredth time. But Rania didn’t care. These weren’t her people and she wasn’t going to pretend to be on their side just because fate had brought them together.

Where the fuck was fate when her heart was taking the hits? When her mate was sending other pseudo-mates to play with her heart? Where was fate when she was rejected by a whole realm and everyone knew she was the abandoned one?

Where was fate when her parents disowned her for a crime she hadn’t ever committed? This was a long game and Kim Rania was playing it already. If fate wanted a taste, then she wouldn’t mind giving examples.

But until then, she was doing to be who they had made her into.

A soulless monster.

"Goddess, I’m starving," Han Seong said, as he looked at Jihoon.

He knew how much of a betrayal this looked like but he wasn’t betraying his friend. He was protecting his Luna from pain.

He was making sure that Jihoon didn’t hurt the woman he loved and while it seemed like a crucial task at the movement, Han Seong hoped that someday these two kids would find their way to each other.

Expectedly, Han Seong didn’t recognize Kaia’s claim on Rania. He knew it was all bullshit; and unless it was proven to him by more than just a ceremony or word of mouth, Han Seong would always believe that Jihoon and Rani were the only two mates.

"Me too. We can go home, though just to be sure, this bitch right here is Nathaniel’s daughter?" Kaia asked as he pulled the chained leash on Yanna.

She had been awfully quiet this whole time, almost like she was hoping that she would get a deal from the very people who wanted her gone.

She had already figured that they didn’t want her dead, which was way more scary than the fact that Rania could have wanted her dead.

She knew Rania and she knew the woman either killed or tortured her captives, and this time, it looked like torture was the next thing for her. Then again, it wasn’t that hard to tell that Jihoon being helpless and defeated like this wasn’t right for Yanna.

She had genuinely fallen in love with the man, and that was why he had come with an army to protect him from Rania and even then she had failed. It just didn’t make her feel better and she was mad at the world for hurting the man she loved.

Then again, all of this could have been avoided if she couldn’t have been a conniving little bitch who wanted everything for herself. Her obsession had landed them in this situation and she couldn’t even blame it on anyone else.

What was she even supposed to say at the moment? That she was sorry Jihoon was suffering? That she was wishing the man she loved all the best when he was in a silver cage so tiny that she could see his body turning red slowly?

This shit was fucked up and t made this tem the cruelest to ever exist. This was insanity in its own form and also something that Yanna wasn’t going to forgive.

Even if she had the power to be free, even if she had the ability to make things go in her own way, there was just no way she would be outrunning Kaia Seto of all the creatures.

This woman was a version of the devil himself, a devil that couldn’t be wooed, and right now, he was a devil who seems to be protecting Kim Rania. How many levels of fucked was that for her anyway?

"Ah... The little bitch who doesn’t even know who mommy and daddy are, but she keeps causing trouble like the dumbfuck she is. I don’t even wanna spend more time thinking of what she has done.

"Let’s take our prisoners and go get some food, because I might even eat them alive right now," Rania responded, making sure to confuse Yanna even more.

Her eyes were attentive to what Kaia had said but Rania’s responses didn’t exactly give an answer that she was expecting. Maybe she was expecting a direct yes or no, though Rania had given her maybes.

Maybe she was the vampire king’s daughter and maybe she wasn’t the vampire king’s daughter.

"Don’t worry Kaia. She’s born of a servant in the human lands. Pesky little thing was so unlucky that it got bitten by a vampire and a werewolf protected her, only for the werewolf to want a bite.

"She should be thankful she survived. Otherwise, she would be dining with the ashes in the winds," Dalrae added sinisterly and Yanna closed her eyes.

She was trying to block her ears too but then with her vampire hearing, she was everything she didn’t want to be at the moment. Was she really born of a servant? And a human at that? What the fuck was she to make of that?

There was no telling who was fucking with her and who wasn’t, though she was slowly learning not to trust a word that came from these misfits about her. They were fucking with her mind and that much was evident.

"Are you sure she wasn’t born of the warlocks? Hybrids are hard to come by, not to mention there’s a tattoo on her back.

"Maybe we should use that to summon the poor woman who gave birth to her no?" Han Seong said and Yanna felt like she wanted to be everywhere but here.

She tried running away with the chains on her, but then the man who was holding the chains didn’t even flinch despite Yanna trying with her vampire speed. She was useless in protecting herself and she was useless in fighting for herself.

Her hybrids had turned sides and they had all ended up being murdered by the immortal army. Maybe that was their karma and they deserved it for leaving her side, and yet that didn’t make up for the fact that she had been a terrible leader for them.

"I heard she was abandoned," Paloma said and Yanna breathed in.

She was controlling herself, though she should have known that this team of misfits didn’t really give two fucks if she had the teeth to tear through them or not. They were strong as they could easily bring her down without trying so hard.

What she had done warranted a worse threat than what she was facing, and she should have been thankful they had not trampled her yet for being such a dumb ass with them.

"You really want to go for a run so desperately, huh, Yanna dear?" Kaia asked softly and reassuringly, and Yanna looked at him with a scowl on her face like she was disapproving of his methods.

However, it wasn’t like she had a choice to make at the moment, she was fucked and the sooner she accepted that, the sooner she could think straight ad come up with a solution for herself, which was nearly impossible right now.

"Then I’ll free you," Kaia said with a smirk on his face and the misfits cheered on, like they knew what was about to happen.
