Alpha's Lost Luna Returns With His Twins-Chapter 140-The Woman Of The Water
Kash:
I noticed the agitation in Iris’s body ever since I met her that morning, and it seemed like something in her had changed.
Her behavior was odd. The confident and straightforward Iris was missing.
It was not that I had not noticed it. I could tell she was uncomfortable, especially around Luca and her mother.
The way her mother arrived and announced that Iris and Luca were going to take a step further in their relationship felt wrong.
I noticed Iris did not look like she was even aware of it.
Did her mother really think I was that stupid? She had to force Iris to respond by nodding her head.
I did not say much. I silently let them get away with it for now.
Of course, Iris went ahead and sat in the car with Luca, while I was in another car with Lara and her father.
There were other warriors and people around, many from my side too, since we were supposed to be checking the location for the next shoot.
But honestly, my mind stayed on Iris.
"Since they are also taking a step further, how about we suggest that we all get married on the same day?" Lara let out while speaking with her father.
"Lara," I said, turning to her. I watched her smile fade as she noticed the way I called her out.
"They are not our siblings, we don’t need to do a joint wedding," I told her sharply.
I noticed the way her father turned to look at me.
I had never seen Iris’s mother do anything even remotely similar for her.
Every time Lara’s smile faded, her father reacted. The same could not be said when it came to Iris.
"It doesn’t matter. Iris doesn’t need these people. She has us," my wolf snapped.
Still, I was disappointed. It felt like I was not really there for her.
Whatever had happened last night had clearly shaken her.
Maybe Scarlett had told her mother about us, and her mother had reminded Iris of my cheating.
The thoughts kept piling up until my head started to hurt.
We finally arrived at the location, and my heart began to thump loudly.
I did not know why. As soon as I stepped out of the car, I noticed how cloudy the weather was.
The clouds seemed to gather over this exact area.
Iris and Luca stepped out of their cars as well. Iris looked uneasy.
I could tell she had barely spoken to him. Luca tried to make small talk, but she only nodded or shrugged in response.
"This is the beautiful path to the precious Blue River," Lord Ronald announced.
The ground was even here, and tall trees surrounded us.
Their branches stretched overhead, blocking most of the light.
Throughout it all, Lara talked loudly, making sure everyone knew she had been here before.
Then the cave appeared.
Its mouth stood wide, carved with strange numbers and shapes.
"This will be a long walk," Lord Ronald warned, slowing his pace as he turned to glance at us. "Once we enter, stay alert. Do not fall behind or into the river."
I nodded, taking in the cave entrance.
Luca immediately reached for Iris’s hand, while Lara stayed close to my arm.
A thin stream ran straight through the center of the cave. The water glowed a deep blue.
It was the first time I had seen it this close. This was not the heart of the river.
Most of the water disappeared underground at the cave’s entrance, only becoming visible from here.
The light reflected off the walls and ceiling, forming different patterns.
The cave split into two paths, divided by the flowing water. Luca and Iris chose the opposite side.
I lost track of how long we walked before I noticed the cave growing darker.
"Do not lose your sense of direction," Lord Ronald called out. "Follow the lines above. They will guide you."
I looked up and saw thin streaks of blue light tracing the cave ceiling, following the river’s path.
There were no lanterns. It almost felt as if the cave itself decided who was allowed to pass.
We walked for what felt like forever before I finally saw light ahead. Excitement built inside me. I had waited for this day.
The moment we stepped out, bright light blinded us. Everyone raised their hands to shield their eyes until they adjusted.
When I looked up again, the sky was dark. Stars were scattered above us.
It made no sense. It was daytime.
Mountains stood tall around the river, enclosing it on all sides.
I could not tell what lay beyond them. Iris slowly slipped her hand from Luca’s and stepped closer to the water.
The glow reflected in her eyes, making them shine.
It was a vast river, held in place by the mountains.
I started to look around, wondering what the heart of the river meant.
"So you guys will be shooting in this area then? Just make sure nobody falls down or anything. I heard the river does not allow anyone to breathe in," Lord Ronald warned.
As soon as he said that, every head snapped toward him.
"Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you. Someone once from the pack came here to steal the water. When he tried to take it, something dragged him down. After that, he was never seen again. His bones were found a few months later, and that was it," he explained.
As he spoke, I noticed Iris looking down, lost in thought.
Before I could respond or even decide what to do next, I heard a faint voice.
It was a woman’s voice, and it called my name.
"Kash! A man like you is hard to see here," the voice whispered.
I looked around to see if anyone else could hear it, but they had already started talking among themselves about the area, not the voice calling for me.
I looked ahead and noticed a small disturbance forming in the river.
"What is that?" I remarked, pointing toward the spot.
